Introduction

Hello fellow summoners, and welcome to my first guide for Mordekaiser
After the recent patch some people have been wondering, '' Is he as badass as he looks? ''
The answer my friends is '' Yes. ''
I have been playing Mordekaiser since I started playing LoL, he was my first champion to buy and I believe I've mastered him enough to make a guide.

Pros / Cons

Pros:
    Farming God.
    Excellent harass.
    Awesome and fun champion to play.(unlike general opinion)
    His ultimate rocks.
    His skills have metal-song names.
    You can devastate the opposition with your Q AND E.
    You can spam stupid Mordekaiser memes like 'Huehuehue' and 'Mordekaiser es numero uno'.

Cons:
    Early game he is squishy.
    Has no CC.
    If you are caught between CC you are dead, the only exception being carrying a Guardian Angel.
    Your enemies can spam stupid Mordekaiser memes.

Summoner Spells

Flash = A good escape tool and closing distance spell. Propably the perfect spell for Morde cause he has no other escape tools.

Ignite = A must spell for Mordekaiser, combined with yor ultimate, it ensures you get that ghost and generally deals significant dmg even by itself.

Tip: In lane when you reach lvl 6 and your opponent has about 1/4 hp, FLASH IN USE ULTI IGNITE AND....get a yummy ghost. ( You might have to Siphon them too.)

Situational Spells



Ghost = I usually take this on Dominion instead of Flash but if you are a Ghost fan, feel free to pick it.

Exhaust = I have seen some Mordekaisers taking this, but I don't prefer it, you want to either burst your target down or continuously running by them and smacking them.

Teleport = Great for getting around, great for going solo top, but I usually don't take this.

Clarity = Well.. um..you can very well take this if you want people to queue dodge, but if you take this seriously, uninstall the game. I hope I don't have to explain the reason for this! xD

Runes

I take Greater Mark of Magic Penetration, for the magic penetration.

I take Greater Seal of Ability Power and Greater Glyph of Ability Power (ignore Greater Glyph of Scaling Ability Power, for some reason I could not find Greater Glyphs of Potency) for more ap, {with the newest patch (Hecarim) they are even more effective}.
And of course even more ap with Greater Quintessence of Ability Power.

I use offensive masteries for like the name of the guide I'm playing an offensive Mordekaiser.

If you prefer you can go to the end of the Defense Tree instead of the Offense Tree. That just depends on your playstyle dude.

Skill Sequence

I prefer Mace of Spades over Creeping Death, because its much more offensive and Creeping Death's effect takes longer to apply. Of course we take Siphon of Destruction whenever we can, as its Morde's bread and butter ability.
I hope I don't have to mention that we take Children of the Grave at lvl 6,11 and 16 like stupid Phreak :P

Gameplay and Items

Alright, huehuehue let's get really started. This is the most important section fo the guide, as I will explain my item choices and alternatives.

Ok then, you will want to go either mid or solo top. Just FOR GOD'S SAKE remeber two things.

1. DON'T GO BOTTOM PLEASE.
2. DON'T GO DUO TOP. (with sb else)

Ps. I get so mad when I see some Mordekaisers doing these things.

Why is that? Because Mordekaiser does not have the leniency to share experience and gold with other champions, cause he is totally dependable on his early game.

If Mordekaiser fails, dies too much or loses cs (creeps)it is very hard for him to dominate mid-late game (as he should).



Ok then, I start off with an Amplifying Tome and a Health Potion, or with Boots and 3 Health Potions. You need that early sustain to regain the health you eat up using your abilities. This choice actually depends on your enemy.

If during the Loading Screen you see a Heimerdinger that seems like to go mid, grab that Tome and destroy him!

On the other hand, if you see an Ahri or a Kassadin, better be safe than sorry! Grab your Boots for dodging skillshots and the pots for the constant hammering you are about to get.

If you want to go solo top (though I personally prefer mid), get a Cloth Armor and 5x Health Potions, or a Regrowth Pendant and a pot. Same reason here is health sustain.

Try to last hit using auto attacks, don't spam your ablities all the time it can result in your missing a lot of health early game, that is until you get your precious Hextech Revolver.

Then,you are able to gain back the health you lose from your abilities.

Just make sure to use your Siphon on a whole enemy minion wave for the extra shield and health gain.
Another important thing is to buy wards, they literally win games. I will not fully analyse the ward spots where your team must place wards for them to be extra effective, just ward dragon and baron yourself if your allies do not.
That way you will also be able to ruin any ganks on you.

Tip: When you are in need of hp and you don't have a minion wave close, (assuming you have your Hextech Revolver) and your jungler is off ganking or anyway not creeping, go to the Wraiths' Camp and clear it out for the health and shield gain, it's very beneficial.



When you have reached level 6 and gotten WoTA ( Will of the Ancients), your are starting to become scary. Try to evade any ganks by looking at your wards.
If you see someone charging at you while before they played defensively and you don't have any wards, you know your are going to get ganked.

Try to dodge the CC, by siderunning or flashing away to safety. If until the gank you have harassed the enemy mid enough, hit them with your destructive combo E, ulti and ignite and together with your yummy ghost destroy the jungler.

Tip: Use smart cast while playing Mordekaiser and LoL in general. Why? Cause it can save your life or ensure a kill.
For those who don't know what smart-cast is, its when you press E to use your Syphon for example, instead of having to left click for it to be activated, it happens automatically where your cursor is pointing.
You can use this feature by going to (in game) --> Key Bindings --> Smart Cast Spell 1-4 and Summoner Spell 1,2 and changing what is inside the respective boxes into the respective keys on your keyborad q,w,e,r,d and f. I hope I made you understand :D



Item Explanation



CORE



Sorcerer's Shoes = You are a mage. You need that extra magic penetration.

Will of the Ancients = Cheapest spellvamp item to get, helps a lot with sustain and in general is in accordance with Morde's gameplay.
Also:(Made by ShadowNet)

Rylai's Crystal Scepter = This baby has everything you need. Health, ability power, AND free slow to boot.

Situational Items



Offensive



Mejai's Soulstealer = Really risky item to get. If you see an easy game ahead, buy this buddy and completely dominate. Although it can ruin your day if purchased in a more difficult game.

Rabadon's Deathcap = This beast of an item gives you the most ap in the game! And what is the stat we need more of? AP!

Lich Bane = Another awesomely awesome item. Grants you extra movement speed, magic resist, ability power and a great passive. When you have this and your Q you can almost one hit a twitch or ezreal (no kidding). It also grants you bonus mana! ( Wait, whut?)

Hextech Gunblade = Want more spellvamp? This is your best friend then. It also has an immensely useful passive, giving extra dmg and a magnificent slow great for escaping and catching up with enemies.

Void Staff = More ability power and magic penetration? Having problems with all those Forces of Nature? Get it!

Neutral



Moonflair Spellblade = Gives you a noticeable boost in ap early game and much needed tenacity. Take this if you feel you are being CC'ed and focused down too much.

Zhonya's Hourglass = Dat item...it's freaking awesome! It grants some armor and more ap and a perfect 2 second invulnerability and untargetability. Use this to put your enemies off balance if they have focused you, and help your team divert their attention, until you emerger and wreak havoc once again.

Abyssal Mask = Having problems with nuke ap champions? Take this item and ignore his futile attacks with the extra magic resistsance and kill him with more ap.

Deathfire Grasp = I have tried this item once or twice, gives you very good cooldown reduction and ap, combined with an excellent burst active. Use this if the enemy team has extremely tanky champions.

Defensive



Mercury's Treads = If the enemy team has so mcuh CC you can barely move, grab these.

Sunfire Aegis = Stacks really well with your Creeping Death, get this if you want armor as well as some extra damage, though I don't usually buy this.

Force of Nature = Get this if you have an enemy team consisted of 3 mages or more.

Spirit Visage = I rarely take this, but pretty strong combined with your ultimate, plus bonus CDR, hp and magic resist. Prefer this if you are falling behind.

Banshee's Veil = Useful item to get if you like a more tanky feeling. Interestng shield and the bonus mr and hp never hurts.

Thornmail = Use this if an enemy Master Yi or Twitch are tearing you apart. This will return damage back to them and help hold their attacks at bay long enough to get them as ghosts. Remember an enemy ad carry as a ghost wins games.

Warmog's Armor = I normally don't get this but if you are the defensive tanky type, take this fro the extra hp and hp regeneration.

Team Work

I would suggest you

do not initiate

unless you are the tankiest person in your team, (you shouldn't be). Wait for your offtank-tank to go in first then target the enemy team ad carry.

Get them as ghost, and the teamfight is all but done. But be careful not to get caught in strong CC, it will be the end of you.

Matchups for Mid (under development)



Tricky opponent. Evade her Charm and her Orb of Deception and hit her with Siphon of Destruction and Mace of Spades.
Her passive ability is quite annoying, especially early in the laning phase, when you don't have your Hextech Revolver and she can go almost full hp by hitting a creep wave with Orb of Deception.
Simply be the winner in trading blows and when you do Children of the Grave and
Ignite combo and her, hit her quick with a Siphon before she runs away with her ulti.





Pretty easy to deal with in the laning phase, when she gets her ulti and begins to jump on you, punish her with Mace of Spades and Siphon. An important note is: don't stay in her circle !





Play aggresively against her, span Siphon, but I would suggest keeping yourself at over half hp, just in case she diced to do her infamous Flash+ Summon: Tibbers+ Ignite combo. Also make sure that you manage to pull off your ulti before such a thing happens, or you will surely die.





Well, you just have to dodge that deadly combo starter Flash Frost. She has very few hp early game, so harass her and wait so she is low hp to... WAIT! Don't forget that annoying passive Rebirth -_-
It can, in short, cancel your ultimate. How do we counter this? IF you want to rob the bird of its passive just Ignite her, and after she comes back in lane, do the good old combo, without Ignite obviously.




Not that hard to play against. Only thing to watch out for it his stun combo with which he can quickly burst you down, especially after level 6. So in general avoid his spells and play really aggresively when he is low mana. (goes for every non-mana ap carry)



Ah this one...one of the best ap carries in the game, incredible burst damage from level 6, can completely annihilate you. Play extremely safe and dodge her Noxious Blast, which is her combo starter. At level 6, you will have to ask help from your jungler, to CC her before she can land her combo and bring you to 0% from 100%.



I rofl when I see an ezreal coming up against me. So easy to deal with, easy to dodge his skills, low hp. Just be careful for any ganks, as he is sure to ask assistance from his jungler.



Don't stay inside his Bountiful Harvest range.
Do.Not.Do.That.
Lol, just wanted to emphasize on that, you canoot out last his drain power until you can quickly burst him down at level 6. Be careful of the combination of his Terrify and a jungler attack. One last thing: when he is missing he might as well have gone to the side bush to ulti you, so I would suggest warding those two side bushes just in case.



I sincerely hate this champion. Really. Early game there isn't much you can do, simply play defensively because his Urchin Strike and Playful / Trickster combined with Ignite and the passive of his Seastone Trident can almost kill you at level 4. At level 6, you must try to dodge his Chum the Waters with your Flash or even by sidestepping. If not, quickly spam him with all your spells, and let fate decide the outcome. (Probably both of you will die)



A rare sight to see, still very dangerous. Dodge his Resolute Smite and Righteous Gust. An important thing to care about is his Idol of Durand that can lock you in place and eventually kill you combined with the interference of a jungler.



Fat man with no hp. Spam him and avoid his Barrel Rolls. As usual be careful at level 6 because he can drag you into his turret with his Explosive Cask and kill you with the aid of a jungler.



Don't go near his annoying turrets and avoid his CH-1 Concussion Grenade. If he hits you with it he can bring you down to half hp by firing his rockets and placing a turret near you. All in all, pretty easy to counter.



You will have to be able to dodge his Lay Waste, which he is sure to be spamming enldessly. Something to note: If he has not thrown a Wall of Pain in the entire laning phase, or only once, and suddenly throws it when you have overextended a bit, be ready for the appearence of a jungler. Better flash quickly.



This guy...the infamous anti-mage. His Null Sphere is the best silence in the game. One of this and your full shield is gone. You must, must, harass him until he reaches level 6. Then, you all know what he is capable of, killing you so fast you cannot do anything. You will have to play defensively and hug the turret at that point, until he gets bored and tries to gank other lanes, when you should catch him in a hard CC with your teammates.



Normally, you can rape her (:D). When she acquires her ultimate and activates it, don't run. Spam all your spells at her and she is bound to fall.



Annoying pokemon-like ninja. Its quite easy to dodge his shurikens at first, but as he Lightning Rushes you and pulls off his stun combo, you will take a lot of damage wihout being able to pay him back. So try to see that coming and charge up your shield so you take less actual damage. As for level 6, this is where you two are equal. Like Fizz it is doubtful who will win, but with some proper harass early in the game, you ensure your victory in that duel.



This is a champion you really have to fear. Not only does she have incredible burst, but also can do immense damage to you without a scratch thanks to ******** Distortion.
So the only thing you can do as with Kassadin is harass the **** out of her until level 6. It works. At level 6, you can't kill her on your own unless you survive that 1st burst.



She has great range, and is bound to spam her skills, so you will have to be on the move all the time. Be careful for that snare, if you get caught the most you can do is put on Creeping Death on yourself and Siphon any nearby minions or even Lux herself.



I have only met this once, but is pretty annoying. What you must do is dodge her slow, and be wary of her ultimate, as it gives her a bunch of hp, and your Children of the Grave might not kill her.



Do not stand beside minions when he puts his Malefic Visions on it, or it can latch onto you and deal significant damage. Aside from that, the only thing to be careful of when fighting Malzahar is the deadly combination of Null Zone + Ignite + Nether Grasp. However, if you have charged up your shield before he does this, you should be ok, unless his jungler comes to help. So my advice would be to play very aggresively until level 6, when you should ask for a gank, and generally switch to a more defensive playstyle.



Haven't faced an AP yi on mid as yet, but my guess would be that he is going to be realy annoying with his Meditate and that he could use it to negate your Children of the Grave. I think that even with Ignite on him he is going to outheal the damage. But you should know that he cannot possibly fight you 1v1, so you will slowly but steadily push him and win the lane.



Mehehe, this is of course a tricky one. The secret to win a fight as Mordekaiser vs Mordekaiser is to hit him with an ability before he does. Why is that? Simple. In that milisecond after you have hit him with a Siphon, and he is going to do the same, you have built up some of your shield, which means that his Siphon does less damage and gives him less shield.



You cannot outsustain her, nor kill her easily. On the other hand, she can Dark Binding you + Tormented Shadow, which will deal a ****ton of damage. So try to avoid her bindings please. If she does catches you, Siphon of Destruction her and any nearby minions to gain some shield which will absorb a portion fo the damage. Another tip would be to place 2 wards in the nearby bushes, something even more important if you are against Morgana, because in case of a gank her Dark Binding would be deadly.



It is vital that you dodge those Javelin Tosses, they hurt a lot. But be assured, Nidalee cannot fight you 1v1. When she tries to escape using Pounce, you will have to flash quickly in order to catch her with as Siphon of Destruction.

Sure as hell he can. There is even a guide I followed once xD. But why jungle when you have sucha strong presence in lane? Also his ganks are also effective only when your teammate has a good CC. Nah, just trolling you guys :D
