Season 3 Testing

After many updates Riot performed, I am currently testing Olaf Offtank prowess in new season.

So far, Trinity Force combined with Runic Bulwark and Randuin's Omen do wonders.

True damage on a tank =D

*But is really expensive (11878 gold) =(

Hopefully I will finish testing soon and update the whole guide.

Feel free to test for yourself and post your experience =)

*Also Attack Speed has been slighty nerfed and it affects Olaf's passive.

New Attack Speed Calculation:

AS = baseAtLevelOne*(1+x/100) where
x = bonusPerLevel*(level-1) + (itemBonus + runeBonus + masteryBonus + abilityBonus + buffBonus)

So Olaf's base is 0.694 and bonus is 2.7 per level.
AS at 100% HP = 0.694*(1+(2.7*17+30+0+4+0+0)/100) = 1.248506
AS at 60% HP = 0.694*(1+(2.7*17+30+0+4+40+0)/100) = 1.526106
AS at 30% HP = 0.694*(1+(2.7*17+30+0+4+70+0)/100) = 1.734306
AS at 1% HP = 0.694*(1+(2.7*17+30+0+4+99+0)/100) = 1.935566

Introduction

Welcome everyone.

This is a build guide about Olaf the berserker bro.
Olaf is a melee AD champ that chops his enemies with thundering fury.
I focus on tanky, good hp and damage. This is not a full tank neither a dps guide, but a quite healthy Brolaf

Lore

On an uncharted continent beyond Valoran's grasping clutches, the conqueror named Olaf was born to a long tradition of soldiers unlike most others. Berserkers, as they tout themselves, are warriors who channel fury deep from their cores, unleashing pure and savage wrath upon their enemies. This fearsome evolution is a product of their unforgiving home, Lokfar - a barren tundra where all creatures must vie bitterly for every resource. Olaf belonged to a seafaring clan known for ruthlessly pillaging any and all villages within reach of their dragon-crested longboats. The last time he saw his icy home, Olaf was embarking on an expedition to pioneer and plunder a distant land known only to legend. However, while underway, a terrible storm sprung up and Olaf and his crew were thrown to the mercy of a roiling and pitiless sea.

His ship destroyed, his crew nowhere to be found, Olaf miraculously washed up untold miles from ''friendly'' waters on the foreign shores of Valoran, south of Demacia. This unfamiliar place stunned and frightened the Berserker, for Lokfar is not privy to such potent magicians. Approaching them, Olaf hoped that they could use their mysterious powers to send him back to his people. A bargain was struck. Olaf would use his awesome prowess as a warrior to serve the unusual wars of Valoran in the League of Legends, and in exchange the sorcerers would find him a way to return. Despite his participation in the League, Olaf knows better than to trust the ''finger wagglers'' that run the Institute of War. He deliberately keeps details of his life and home from them. After all, with enough information, they would most certainly find the Lokfarians and dominate them as they have dominated all of Valoran, keeping both quietly -- and unwittingly -- in their thrall.

Beware the war cry of the Berserker. What surges toward you is unyielding, free from the shackles of reason.

"I am Brozarik, Lord of the Bros"

Summoner Spells

Exhaust is simply a must have on Brolaf
Using this on an enemy carry will shut down their damage and combined with your slows, severely decrease their movement speed.

Flash can be used to secure a kill or escape, multifunctional spell, jump over walls, survive.

Great movement buff, keep track of your enemy, get somewhere quickly.

A must for a jungler, secure buffs and as a plus, you can activate your W to spell vamp smite.

Good early game killsecuring tool, but in my opinion olaf can achieve that by sticking like glue to a target.

Good spell to help allies in other lanes and to return back to yours.

Kind of meh due to sustain.

All of these are pretty much a waste on Brolaf

Skill Sequence

His passive makes him hard to kill, combined with his W, life steal can make you out sustain your enemies.

Your only CC is a skillshot with adjustable range, crucial to land just at your enemies feet AND grab your axe back for improved chasing. Since it has the same cooldown on all ranks, it is maxed last.

Your sustain, provides life steal and some AD, scales with HP. Maxed second.

True Damage, but it also hurts you. In early game is where this skill shines, maxed first. Be sure to not drop yourself too low so enemy cant burst you down.

Passive ArP, instant Ar and MR buff, Cleanse, EPIC
Do notice that Ragnarok can nullify some champs ults like Malzahar's Nether Grasp and Warwick's Infinite Duress but doesnt nulls Jarvan IV's Cataclysm

Item Sequence

Ionian Boots of Lucidity 900
Wriggle's Lantern 1800
Frozen Mallet 3100
Warmog's Armor 3100

Cost: 15065

Rush a wriggles, farm, sustain, win, period.

Why Ionian Boots of Lucidity? Because spamming is goood.
Undertow CD 6.8
Tough It Out CD 10,2
Reckless Swing CD 4,25
Ragnarok CD 85

Average human reaction time varies between 0.2 seconds and 0.4 seconds, so any CDR that applies more than 0.5 seconds is goood.

For a really really late game, you might change your Wriggle's Lantern for a Bloodthirster or a Madred's Bloodrazor or a Wit's End depending on situation.

Hexdrinker 1300
Frozen Mallet 3100
Maw of Malmortius 3100
Randuin's Omen 2700

Cost: 12425 + last item

Just before late game, you should have your Hexdrinker build, so you have a wide range of resistance and utility, and later on, your Randuin's Omen active becomes a great team fight CC. At this point, most games end, but if for some reason it should continue, you must reflex on what you need:

Moar HP = Warmog's Armor

MR = Force of Nature or Wit's End

Revive = Guardian Angel

AD = Black Cleaver or Bloodthirster

Utility = zeke's herald or Shurelya's Battlesong or Locket of the Iron Solari or Aegis of the Legion or Frozen Heart

WANT ATMOG! = sell your Wriggle's Lantern and buy Warmog's Armor and Atma's Impaler

Team Work

If there is a proper tank in your team, your goal during team fights is to obliterate the enemy carry at any cost. That means you enter a fight axes blazing with Ragnarok and literally kamikaze their carry (while your team effectively aplies CC)

Step by step:
  • Activate Ragnarok and start advancing towards enemy team. Yelling BROMACIAAA! at the top of your lungs usually grants you success.
  • Use Undertow to hit enemy carry
  • Target their carry and use Exhaust thus fully preventing his escape.
  • By now, you should have a lot of aggro, you can take hits due to your tankiness while rendering useless their CC. Your own team should be advancing and using a large CC.
  • Use Reckless Swing and Tough It Out to obliterate enemy carry.
  • Your team should have downed any other threat, so only thing left is to chase the enemy tank and score and ace =D

If you are the tank, you must use your Randuin's Omen active catching as many enemies as you can, combined with Undertow shutdown their carry with Exhaust then keep aggro to yourself using Reckless Swing while staying alive with Tough It Out and Ragnarok
Be wary though, as brolaf lacks heavy CC.

Math

Olaf lvl 18 offense build with 50% hp and vicious strikes and ragnarok

177,69 Ar 176,8 MR
1,013*(15,3+4+30+50)%=2,018909 aspd = 12 attacks in 6 seconds

117,1+6,75+153+3+9+35+42,23+20=386,08 AD

vicious strikes=357,15*0,21=75,0015
life steal=357,15*0,36=128,574

executioner=21,429

total damage for 12 hits = 259,811 + 285,773 + 317,5 + 357,15*9 + 21,429*4 = 4163,15
total life steal = 93,53196 + 102,87828 + 114,3 + 128,574*9 + 30,85776 = 1498,734

undertow=260+171,75=431,75*100/157,6=273,953
reckless swing=340+340=680

total damage in 6 seconds = 5117,103
*Assuming you have a constant HP

A carry usually has arround 2000~3000 HP, so it is probable you can obliterate him and keep rocking =D

When jungling, I recommend using the Defense build with some slight changes:

Definitely take Smite and Exhaust
