Pardon me for my horrible introduction art, but i'm really deeply a fan of Irelia
WHY IRELIA? SHE's just a GIRL.
Tanky-late game, great sustainability, great burst , anti-cc resistance ( Ionian Fervor) and INSANE true damage!
Now, that just made her sound OP, but she's a viable pick after all.
WHY SO ?
To make it straight, don't get me wrong about building Irelia in this manner, I am just building her as Tanky dps/Hyper-carry late game. Why build Irelia in such manner?
Well, the primary reason is to make Irelia as unkillable as possible late game as well as dishing out good damage and carrying the team.
You can switch to more defensive options early but i recommend getting a bit of offensive items first to give more early game damage output in transitioning easily to mid game to late game.
We'll get a closer look on that later.

Choose between these, getting armor penetration seems to works best LATE GAME but you will need some early game damage, get FLAT AD reds as you need DUELING power against other bruisers.
You need to stay strong early so that you can reach late game. Mix them to find a balance between early and late game.
Simple, almost every champion in the needs this. Mana regeneration? Be conservative, last hit with Auto attacks. Scaling armor? You'll get raped before you can even reach late game.
I prefer PER LVL MR, as you will not be laning with some bad AP tops.It'll give you sustainability long enough for a nice kill. However, this is more oriented to more late game power.
Switch with flat MR if you're facing an ap top. You can stick with flat MR at all conditions, it's a SAFE pick. PER LVL MR is just a matter of preference. They're both great as viable options.
X3Greater Quintessence of Armor PenetrationX3
Same reasoning as the marks, Mix them to your preference.
EDIT: NEW MASTERIES HAVE BEEN IMPLEMENTED
Follow as above = just keep to the standard 9/21/0 Mastery
You can alter any parts of the mastery to your liking or preference as long as you go 9/21/0.
There are some mastery specifically such as 9/13/8, they're good also.
But all this is up to you as long as it works for you.
Almost 100% needed at all times, try not to substitute this with anything else. It just totally help in all aspects of the game, it's just too useful. You can also pull many tricks with this, and trust me, you will be really grateful if you took Flash , just too good for a summoner spell.
The meta has changed. Ignite is pretty much standard for extra damage and crippling the opponent's sustain. This contributes to dueling power.
What makes AN IRELIA AN IRELIA are her abilities. What she can do is what she can do that makes her different from other champions.
So, for a start, we need to first learn about her abilities and then learn how to utilize it.
Reduces the duration of stuns, slows, taunts, fears, snares, and immobilizes for each nearby enemy champion.
1 Champion: 10%
2 Champions: 25%
3 Champions: 40%
Radius: 1200 (sight range)
There is a reason why irelia is extremely hard to counter and this ability makes her a REAL THREAT when she is focused in teamfights and ganks. YES, the INSANE CC REDUCTION synergy with Mercury's Treads giving you a maximum of 61% cc reduction!, formula= 1-((1-0.35)*(1-0.40))=61%. reduction, It's like OMG, a 2 sec stun to a 0.8 sec stun! It's like
INVULNERABILITY to cc. Making enemies go *** for blowing their cc's on you. Every second counts, so cc reduction = ACE This will save your sorry *** millions of times when playing irelia and you wouldn't even notice it. So much for it, it's basically one of the best passive you can have in the game. This is also a major reason why irelia is a cc soaker, potentially viable as a tank but remember, she is NOT a tank.
Take this to your advantage, don't go head charging 1st like a tank just to utilize this ability, soak some cc for your team and stay ALIVE.
Edit : Oh yea, keep in mind that the passive doesn't affect cc reduction for suppression, knockup, or knockback.
So, beware of Warwick's Infinite Duress, Xin Zhao's Three Talon Strike, Malphite's Unstoppable Force, Alistar's Pulverize, Malzahar's Nether Grasp.
Cost: 60 / 65 / 70 / 75 / 80 mana
Cooldown: 14 / 12 / 10 / 8 / 6 seconds
Physical Damage: 20 / 50 / 80 / 110 / 140 (+1.0 per attack damage)
Irelia dashes forward to strike her target. If it kills the target, Bladesurge's cooldown refreshes and refunds 35 Mana. 1.0 AD ratio and procs Trinity Force effect instantly. This where one of irelia's burst damage potential lies once she has a Trinity Force. This is skill is what that makes irelia so special, yes, REAL special. The thing is that you can pull off amazing jukes and tricks with this baby, and the best part is that it is nearly spammable on a bunch of low life minions refunding 35 mana and covering distances all the way to enemy champions. It is an all rounder i say, here's a list of what you can pull with this baby.
-Juking enemies/ ganking
-Chasing a dying target
-Last hit minions far from reach
-Securing a kill/ More like KS
-Scare your opponents < LOL, seriously it works for weaker hearts.
-Escaping ganks or running away
-Pull some nice harass combined with your E as well as pull off some tricky combos to juke your opponents, catches them off guard.
for example, Q to low-health minion-Q to low-health minion-E- retreat to bush- Repeat previous combo then - Q - E - W - R - Q/E for the kill once enemy is low enough.
(Passive): Irelia's autoattacks restore health to her.
Health Restored: 5 / 7 / 9 / 11 / 13
(Active): Irelia's autoattacks deal additional true damage for 6 seconds and health restored per hit is increased to 10 / 14 / 18 / 22 / 26.
Cost: 40 mana
Cooldown: 15 seconds
True Damage: 15 / 30 / 45 / 60 / 75
This ability makes irelia a real threat to almost all enemy champions as it gives her a limited amount of time to deal TRUE damage, yes, TRUE DAMAGE!, if scaled with attackspeed, it makes irelia able to slay almost anything including tanks. However, as great as it may seem, to really maximize this abilities damage output, you will need a hefty amount of attackspeed and this makes you easily countered by attackspeed debuff items such as Frozen Heart and Randuin's Omen. So in conclusion, this ability has it weakness however, never underestimate the true damage output this can give.
THE TRUE DAMAGE IS NOT AFFECTED BY Exhaust, yes, IT's fricking Great! and it doesn't include your normal attack damage after calculating armor penetration yet.
Now, this shows you how viable attackspeed irelia is however, the problem is, it is almost impossible that you can actually hit your opponent for the WHOLE 6 secs! = unless they are ******s...... You will cc'ed or even push back from melee range by the time you can even dish out all the damage.
Either way, the flat health gain is also really useful to sustain you.

Magic Damage: 80 / 130 / 180 / 230 / 280 (+0.5 per ability power)
Duration: 1 / 1.25 / 1.5 / 1.75 / 2 second(s)
Cooldown: 8 seconds (Flat!)
A single target nuke cc that totally makes Irelia outplay most champions during 1v1 fights.
The 2 sec stun is game changing and turns the outcome of any fight to your favor.
This baby makes you a difficult opponent to challenge, as your enemies will have to make a tough decision knowing that you have a 2 sec stun that turns all tables, use of this skill wisely can potentially outplay almost anyone in any fights. The magic damage nuke is also awesome as your opponent will find it difficult to counter you as you are semi-hybrid, your Equilibrium Strike is magic damage, your Bladesurge is physical, giving you a minor advantage early game as most champions have considerably low MR or no scaling of MR their stats.
USE this when:
1. Low health while being turret dived. Most smart people knows about this but this is simply for those greedy people who underestimated you.
2.Going for the kill, as i've said, dont EVER initiate with this unless is 100% chance that the person will be dead.
3.1v1 battles when you're opponent is overwhelming you, use at the right time to significantly turn battles to your favor. RESERVE your cc!
NOTE: THE 3RD USE IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO MASTER, YOU WILL NEED A LOT PRACTICE AND PATIENCE. THIS PROVES WHETHER YOU'RE A REAL IRELIA OR JUST A NOOB!
Cooldown: 60 / 50 / 40 seconds
Physical Damage Per Blade: 80 / 120 / 160 (+0.5 per ability power) (+0.6 per bonus attack damage)
Cost: 100 mana
A rather SPAMMABLE yet useful skill that make Irelia a unique champion. This will make you more sustainable and gives you a nice finisher* to kill off opponents over great range. Nothing much here except that it procs Trinity Force each time you fling the blades and while flinging the blades you can move or autoattack your target, this is something that only Irelia is capable off.
HISTORY: Hextech Gunblade nerfs have made hybrid irelia almost UNviable as Hextech Gunblade are unique making hybrid a total troll.
There are many skills sequence out there but what i found best to suit my early game power is by maxing E Equilibrium Strike first.
AS my build is mostly focused on early game toughness, E is the priority skill.
It is a Great CC and a very nice NUKE early game when people aren't stacking MR.
At level one, you should get Equilibrium Strike for a bush engage or an escape mechanism.
WHY? < THIS IS A NO BRAINER! You will need that stun BADLY.
Next at lvl 2, i will either put Bladesurge or Hiten Style , Bladesurge if you seem to have no hp problems , Hiten Style if you're mid-low on health, At lvl 3, just put a point in Bladesurge IF YOU PICK Hiten Style , Hiten Style IF YOU PICK Bladesurge.
NEXT JUST MAX Transcendent Blades> Hiten Style> Equilibrium Strike> Bladesurge ORDER whenever you can.

Why not max Bladesurge first?
The main reason is because the successive damage is low, the only reason why you will want to make it 1st is to last hit minions easier or get a lower cooldown for a chase. The longer duration cc and the higher magic nuke from Equilibrium Strike would be a potentially better choice.
Why not max Equilibrium Strike first?
The reason is simple. You leave it at one point just for the emergency CC/stun to lay your Hiten Style DPS.
Either way it's all optional.
MAX Bladesurge first if you need chasing power and last hitting minions.
MAX Equilibrium Strike first if your jungler/you need a stronger CC. Also good if your opponent is a turret diver.

You've just embarked into a pirate's dock, without realizing that there are numerous choices of weaponry waiting for you in the armory and your enemies are now waiting to siege you!
Now, let's get in-depth into the ITEMS section.
The viable picks are here.
The three choices here depends on who you are playing against.
Get Mercury's Treads if you are facing high cc team compositions or ap casters. The bonus MR also really helps against those pesky ap casters.
The tenacity works perfectly with Irelia's Ionian Fervor making this almost 100% of the time a must get.
Get Ninja Tabi if you find a majority of ad autoattackers/ ad bruisers on the enemy team comp. The dodge are awesome in conjunction with your mastery + runes and bonus armor helps you a bunch against ad carries.
Get Berserker's Greaves if you really need to go dps irelia as the attackspeed will really give irelia an amazing dps with her Hiten Style true damage output.
This item is a must have every game. You are not a true Irelia without this, i know that there are many ways to build her but you just gotta love this item.
It gives her everything she needs, attack damage for Bladesurge , ability point , attackspeed for Hiten Style , mana for spamming skills , health just make up some tankyness, 150% damage proc for the on hit effects Bladesurge, movespeed for her slow base movespeed , slow chance for the gap closing she needs and critical chance which is somewhat useful as a dpser.
Sometimes, i will rush this before my trinity. WHY? Because hell, as Irelia, you really need to drag games unless you are just totally snowballing their ***es. These items provide some bonus that may help and they can be upgraded to useful items such as Statikk Shiv Shurelya's Reverie and Atma's Impaler
NOW, the choices after this up to you either you are going defensive, offensive or some utility. I will grade them from the top of the selected sections being the most viable and subsequently less viable.
The item listed out here are the standard picks only, you may substitute it with different items choices if they work for you. I will not list out all items.
Try to judge which is best.
The item is excellent on Irelia, the stats it gives is great and the nice debuffing active and passive makes it ideal for Irelia to dive into carries and totally debuff the enemy dps reducing their damage output. As Irelia is a melee champion, it also help close gaps if your enemy attacks you (debuff those pesky auto-attack kitters) or you can activate the active ability to slow enemies around her.
This is also another terific item on irelia, not it only provides a chunk of raw MR aura in addition to some ARMOR as well to Irelia making her more resilient against ap bursters. It also give health and a bit of health regeneration and best of all, "TEAM SUPPORT AURA"
This is item is a bit of an overkill but it's viable. Your enemies will scream when they see you with this, it just makes up for the unkillable part.
This is just a chunk of raw health, once you get this you just need to be careful as enemies will soon start building a Blade of the Ruined King but this item just works great with irelia once you have enough resistances, just watch out for Vayne as she just some true damage based on your raw health. Other than that, i often see people rush this because it can really snowball games hard, real hard if you can rush this. Also, if you're going for this you can consider the Warmog's Armor Atma's Impaler combo as your health should be around 3k enough for a nice ad boost. I rarely get this, but most people often do so i tried it out and it seems ok to me. Just don't go resistance'less with tons of warmog's, it's a troll.
This is item is a really nice item on Irelia especially if you're focused down so badly. Make them pay for killing you, they will be sorry once you have your Equilibrium Strike ready to give that 2 sec stun to totally whoop their ***. However, you will need to have strong team play when you have this item as it works best when your team is there to support you. You will need to die at the right place for this item to work out so position yourself properly or it's gg for you even with this item. Either way, i rarely get this item as i rarely get focused by the opponent team and i would recommend this item as your last item because most of the time people only start focusing on you late game when irelia start to kick in tons of dps.
GAME CHANGING IF USED PROPERLY
Can't really say much about this, a nice hp , mana and MR boost along with a Spell Shield
every 25 seconds. Rare defensive item for some carries, but i find it less effective for Irelia as she's good just without a cc shield as she can just soak them up. Nevertheless, it's still something useful in all ways.
The only reason you'll buy is that it's passive kicks in with Bladesurge dealing good mid game burst damage, some movement speed , attackspeed for Hiten Style. This item is also fricking cheap plus it builds from a Avarice Blade. It's a good offense item for Irelia overall but scales down when entering late game.
If you're really want some hardcore AD, this is the best item to get, 100 AD at max charge,giving you a whooping burst damage you can deal with your Bladesurge's 1.0 AD ratio + Trinity Force proc. Just remember to include some armor penetration items after you get this and it'll kick some nice damage.
This item is an extremely expensive item, i wouldn't recommend this as most of your source of damage doesn't come from crits and unless you can get a Phantom Dancer to compensate for the crit chance, you shouldn't go for this. But, hell yeah, if you can get a Phantom Dancer Infinity Edge pair, you will deal TONS and tons of damage.
Again, this item provides almost everything that contributes to most of irelia's dps, attackspeed for true damage of Hiten Style and attack damage. Not to mention the nice health % damage, giving you tank slaying power. Also great for faster baron runs and a nice boost of armor as well. But, yea, it's still a very expensive item.
This items is now pretty much a rare pick on Irelia , it's still not bad item but not as good as other items anymore.
SITUATIONAL OR VIABLE ITEMS
This is somewhat a new meta build for Irelia when it came out in Season 3, some very attractive stats and capable of replacing Mercury's Treads with the added boost of attackspeed power and 10% MOVEMENT SPEED(GAY)? Well, it's still a situational item, get this if it works wonders for you.
Yes, aura support. Always useful in all conditions if you want to support your team. Nevertheless, another cost efficient item with great armor and magic resist boost for the entire team. Upgrade to Runic Bulwark and it will really change the game!
A cheap and reliable item at times. It provides a nice mix of ad and MR + a nice shield from magic damage if your life falls too low. This will save your *** from those ap bursters not to mention a hard counter for Karthus's ultimate, Requiem. Upgrade it more and get an OP shield and damage boost like Bloodlust. However, i usually keep it at Hexdrinker until really late game when i can afford to upgrade it because it's pretty expensive.
Support active team shield and aura, health, regeneration and armor + inexpensive.
Bullshyt? Well, you can say that. Yet if you ever tried it, it's actually viable for cc's like suppression. by Warwick or Malzahar
Upgrade to Mercurial Scimitar for more ad boost + movespeed active? Well, DAMMED EXPENSIVE YO! Not that viable then.
Snowballs. Try it seriously. 100% crit chance OP!
WELL, IT'S kinda SHYT yet viable? Build it on a Vayne or something, it'll be better.
Yes sir, i'm Phreak from the show, but seriously , this item does work on irelia. The armor penetration and nice active just totally gives an enormous boost when used in combat. The only downside it that you are a totally useless after the active is used up, making you vulnerable. The movespeed and atackspeed bonus during active makes you a killing machine. Builds from Avarice Blade too, so if you're bored, just pick it up.
It might seem like a support item to you but yes, this is extremely useful on Irelia, a nice health boost and regen but best of all, the nice active that makes your teammates move like ghosts. I know this may seen weird for an Irelia to have but there is always nothing wrong in getting more mobility for the team. Like a Ghost summoner spell, it can be used either for offense or defense in most situations.
Yes, you may have seen this on an Irelia before but yea, it works, the MR + extra sustain boost for the cheap cost makes this item cost efficient and useful in most cases.
As i have not mentioned, if you aren't going for a Trinity Force, this is the item to substitute, the huge health bonus and cc is going to give irelia an easy time slaying off enemies.
I usually get this if i'm building enough movement speed and attack speed.
AD hitting you hard? Getting totally owned by fed ad carries? Worry no more once you get this, just return 30% of the damage and you'll find it easier to crush your enemies before they do.
This item is a good item just like The Black Cleaver in maximizing your dps. but if you are solely going for tank slaying power, your Hiten Style will do and this item is best replaced with Blade of the Ruined King as it also give attack speed for Hiten Style. The only probably reason this is even considered is only if you are building a AD burst irelia so that your armor penetration will kick in immediately with Bladesurge.
Item Order and Game Phases
There are a few viable choices, depending on the game.
I sometimes start with this because it is a good balanced item early game. The extra 100 health makes you less squishy to withstand burst damage, the 5 armor and UNIQUE passive effect : blocks 6 damage from champion basic attacks TO counter AD champs early game, the 8 health regen helps you sustain in lane longer from harassers and burst damage.
Boots Of Speed
Most of the time, This is the standard pick. Easy explanation, Pots sustain and standard mobility.
Cloth armor and Pots
This is highly recommended in high level plays and against difficult lane match-ups that you may encounter. The 5 Health Potion will keep you alive for an extremely long time and it will be difficult for your opponents to force you to recall back. The Cloth Armor helps to minimize creep aggro damage for farming or defending turrets.
ALWAYS GET THIS DURING 1V2 TOP LANE.
Long Sword and Pots
OFFENSE! OFFENSE! , Season 3 really gave more viability options. Get this if you're looking to Maximum damage early.
OFFENSE OFFENSE, if you're a daredevil get this , you'll have maximum early game sustain which is crazy with it's passive and your W.
You should get this ASAP!The reason why we rush these items is because you will need damage early to drag yourself to give team fight presence mid to late game.
Looks impossible? At least grab Trinity Force.
YES, the hard part goes here. By end of mid game/ middle of mid game(if you are fed), you should have trinity force ASAP! Before 35 minute mark at least, (25 minutes if you are fed!)
I know it sounds kinda impossible that you can farm up a Trinity Force during mid game as there will be many team fights and your team will need you but you are almost useless until you acquire your Trinity Force. Grab Blade of the Ruined King if you're fed or if not SKIP it then grab it after getting some defensive items if your team needs a tank.
Your TEAM needs to understand that you are Irelia, like Tryndamere and most late game champions, you are extremely item dependent.
At this point of the game, before you get Trinity Force, you should always focus on farming and getting yourself ALIVE and avoiding teamfights unless necessary or avoiding ganks during farming.In ranked play, you should be very careful at this point as your opponents will not allow you to farm to your late game so stay safe and farm safely, they will try to gank you and prevent you from getting fed. You are still pretty squishy at mid game so try to AVOID yourself from getting killed.
A GOOD IRELIA SHOULD NEVER DIE! EXCEPT DURING Guardian Angel EFFECT, BEFORE YOUR ENEMIES GOT ACED.
THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT POINT IN THE GAME, SURVIVE THIS OR IT'S GG FOR YOU.
Hint: Just farm up like a boss like those HIGH ELO players.
AWWW YEAH, YO SURVIVED!
This is where tables starts to turn, you true potential will be at it's peak at this point of the game, you are extremely hard to kill, pulling off some insanely close call teamfights, able to 1v2 or even 1v3 if they are not super fed. 1V1 is a SURE WIN !
This is pretty much the top of your champion's capabilities. LIMIT Use it well and if you lose, don't give up.
TIP: You can replace your Mercury's Treads with Zephyr!
HOW TO PLAY IRELIA
Irelia is classified as an ASSASSIN a.k.a ANTI-CARRY.
So learning some tricks you can pull off with her is essential to playing her to the fullest potential that she is.
To master the will of blades... er..... You need to know HER.
Not just HER, but the way SHE is played.
WARNING : IRELIA IS AN EXTREMELY DIFFICULT CHAMPION TO PLAY.
Irelia's playstyle is not like normal assassins where you can simply ambush to do a perfect burst combo to secure a kill, she doesn't really have the best damage output.
FIRST, YOU NEED TO BE SNEAKY... no, i mean UNPREDICTABLE.Like Akali :D
As irelia, you should always, always, JUKE your opponents,
Remember, irelia is NOT a BAIT so dun go 1v5 and say 'Hey guys, FREE FOOD!'
You are not Anivia or someone who can tank for your team 24/7.
SECOND, ALWAYS ALWAYS BE SMARTAs irelia you must always consider analysis of your opponents potential to kill you, and reserve your Equilibrium Strike at the right timing.
Timing your Equilibrium Strike turns favor to you if used correctly but IF you FAIL to time it right then you are dead instead. KNOW when to use and when not to use YOUR SKILLS WISELY.
As irelia, you will need to time your attacks to maximize her damage output.
ALWAYS PLAN BEFORE GANKING SOMEONE OR GOING FOR THE KILL.
Remember, you are an assassin, precision in timing your attacks can really make a difference between death from losing a fight or surviving while scoring a kill.
It's all about KILL OR BE KILLED.
THE TRICKY PART = THE 2 SEC PROC RULE
First, i need to ask, do you know where does MOST OF Irelia's dps come from?
THE ANSWER IS.
THE 150% damage proc is the key to maximizing her potential dps.
In order to deal damage you must try to time your auto-attacks between skills every 2
You will usually start with Bladesurge most of the time when you are not in range.
- 1ST PROC!
Bladesurge is a special ability is it instantly procs your trinity force for that 150% damage. But remember, the proc only multiplies your Attack Damage and not the ability's fixed damage.
Time every 2 secs for other abilities to maximize your proc damage output.
REMINDER: You do not necessarily have to proc every 2 sec, if you need to use your abilities like your Equilibrium Strike, E to cc a person so that you can get in range or finish off to score a kill BEFORE 2 SEC, by all means, do so.
I've discovered something about transcendent blades and yes, you can fling the blades one by one every 2 sec interval for the proc on your auto-attacks. However, do consider the duration that you can fling the blades before it runs out.
OKAY, this is where everyone would seem very confused, as irelia you are very tanky, can soak cc's relatively well late game, why not go FACE to FACE and dive into their carries?
The answer is NO.
I've seen too many irelia go head on cocky thinking that "Oh yea, i'm fcking farmed, i can just dive their carries and stay alive for a pentakill!" = "Oh ****, i think i just got aced in a few seconds.." YES, you will die. EVEN IF YOU'RE A TANK !
Please i beg you all , play Irelia LIKE A TEAM FIGHTER AND NOT A SOLO BOSS.
So, if you may ask? What should i do then as an irelia?
Like Nocturne and other bruisers always let fights be initiated and then dive in the chaos towards their carry to juke them and whoop them after all cc has been laid.
Position yourself in a place *like a carry, where you are not seen or focused easily by opponents for example a bush or a fog of war ( Bladesurge through walls LOL!) Make sure you are always with your team during teamfights and
Remember, protect your carries also if you don't see any opportunity to dive their carries.
Your team organization front front to back,
FRONT - tank (dive/initiate/cc people)/tanky dps(dive/initiate/cc people) (can dive after tank initiates) - support (protect/shield carry/ buff team/ cc enemies) + carries (stay safe to poke people until they're dead LOL)- BACK
Tips and Tricks A.K.A Combo Breaker
This is a sub section here just to show you guys how to do some crazy combo's with Irelia's
STANDARD KILL COMBO
This is the standard combo, used for initiation or diving enemies like a gap closer.
Rinse and repeat the combo until target is dead or switch to a different combo depending on your gap with the target.
STANDARD KILL COMBO ALTERNATIVE (CLOSE RANGE)
IF your Equilibrium Strike is in range, this combo will give you much advantage in finishing off your target with Bladesurge
GAP CLOSER/ FINISHER
This combo totally helps to get you in range if your enemies are just too far out of reach, just double flash ftw! and cc them and you have your grand prize. I sometimes use this to totally juke my opponents thinking that i can't get any closer but i'm proving them DEAD WRONG. Recommended against fast runners or just people you want to slay so much.
GAP CLOSER / FINISHER 2 ALTERNATIVE
If you think a double blink is not needed to finish off your target just flash in range for your Equilibrium Strike and whack! whack! whack! then Bladesurge for the win!
I recommend this against those pesky champs with too much escape utility or gap closers if you are in range.
