Welcome to my guide, pOPpy(hates S3).
My guide is called pOPpy hates S3. As u can see, poppy is OP. U may ask me why pOPpy hate S3. It is because Trinity Force is nerfed, philosopher's stoneis nerfed. Finally pOPpy is nerfed.
Furthermore, in s2, poppy can build double gp5 item ( philosopher's stone, Heart of Gold) but Heart of Gold is removed in s3. Poppy loves Heart of Gold and hates s3.
Words from the writer
Lets talk about why my guide looks so fxxking messy.
Its because i wanna tell u every pieces of information that i know about poppy to u.
First, i have to say that i am not so PRO. Feel free to leave some comments and vote for this guide.
Something about poppy
Poppy is a character that can be built in many ways. Almost every items work well with her. Therefore, she is pretty funny to play. However, she must have a Trinity Force, Iceborn Gauntlet or a Lich Bane.
It is not AD poppy nor AP poppy. It is just MY poppy. U can call her assassin poppy.
Enjoy the guide!!
Why should we play poppy?
She has her own wonderful characteristics. Lets talk about her pros and cons.
Pros
- he is cheap, she is worth only 450 ip
- he can deal decent damage with Devastating Blow even though he builds only defensive items
- he can be immune to damage for 8 seconds
- u can build her different ways such as ap , ad, tank, support
- strong late game
- turrets are your friends
- tower dive enemies easily
Cons
- weak early game
- lack of farming tools
- low mana pool
- may be left behind because of weak early game, if u are not playing her right
- vulnerable to CC
- getting low mana is more dangerous than getting low hp to u
- ugly and annoying voice
- no jokes
- blue in color
While other young yordle girls played skip-step and braided wreathes out of posies, Poppy spent her youth earning calluses and grease stains in her father's armor shop. Blomgrun, her father, was Bandle City's finest smith. The only thing he loved as much as his work was his young daughter, Poppy - named for the sprightly sounds of the sparks that leapt from his ever-burning forge. He welled with pride the day she was first able to lift his trusty hammer, Whomper. Poppy immediately took to his art, demonstrating a natural gift for smithing, which Blomgrun honed with devoted instruction.
One day, a Demacian general named Florin Berell commissioned Blomgrun to craft a helm, glorious beyond comparison. Blomgrun toiled away on this project, determined to present Florin with his finest work. He let Poppy set the center jewel, entrusting her with the most important piece. When the pair finished, they departed for Demacia to deliver it in person. Word of the general's order, however, was leaked to the Noxian High Command, and two Noxian assassins were dispatched to intercept the delivery. Blomgrun was able to occupy the assassins long enough for Poppy to escape with the prized helm. She watched helplessly from the brush as her father was slain. Instead of fleeing home, she carried the helm the rest of the way to Demacia alone. She refused payment for it, saying that no amount would compensate for her father's life. Instead, she offered it as a gift, honoring her father's final intentions. Florin saw the grim determination behind the tears in her eyes, and requested that the leadership of Bandle City appoint Poppy as the yordle ambassador to Demacia. Soon after, seeking to crush Noxus with her father's hammer, Poppy volunteered for the League of Legends.
Poppy may be small, but Whomper - or her will - is not.

I love poppy very much even though poppy is one of the champion who has the worst voice and art.
Poppy is a perfect champion.
Poppy enhances her next auto attack so that it deals bonus magic damage and an additional 8% of the target's max health as magic damage. The magic damage based on 8% of the target's max health cannot exceed a threshold.

- Devastating Blow procs spell vamp and Rylai's Crystal Scepter's slow similarly with all single target spells and abilities with full effect.

(Passive): Upon being hit or attacking an enemy, Poppy's armor and damage are increased for 5 seconds. This effect can stack 10 times.
(Active): Poppy gains max stacks of Paragon of Demacia and her movement speed is increased for 5 seconds.
Cooldown: 12 seconds
- Paragon of Demacia will gain up to 10 stacks and refresh its duration from any of Poppy's autoattacks and when enemies attack Poppy.
- Activating Paragon of Demacia will cause Poppy to have a movement speed buff which last 5 seconds. This buff does not refresh when Poppy is under attack or when she attacks.
- Minions and turrets attacking Poppy will grant Paragon of Demacia stacks.
(Active): Poppy charges at an enemy and carries them further. The initial impact deals a small amount of magic damage, and if they collide with terrain, her target will take a high amount of magic damage and be stunned for 1.5 seconds.
Range: 525
Carry distance: approx 300
- Heroic Charge procs spell vamp and Rylai's Crystal Scepter's slow similarly with all single target spells and abilities with full effect.
- When Poppy hurls her target against terrain, each burst of damage will count as an two individual single target abilities.

- Heroic Charge will damage Black Shield and the push-back will be negated.
- Heroic Charge will stun the target if Poppy pushes it into terrain.
- Heroic Charge interrupts channeled abilities.
- Poppy can charge toward a target on the opposite side of thin walls, provided that Poppy has vision of the target.
- Heroic Charge's conditional stun will not be applied on terrain created by abilities such as Anivia's Crystallize, Jarvan IV's Cataclysm and Trundle's Pillar of Filth
- If Poppy's target dashes or uses Flash while she is charging towards them, she will drag the target back to their initial position.
- If any form of crowd control which involves displacement of Poppy's position is applied during Heroic Charge, Poppy will be interrupted and no initial damage nor knockback will occur to the target.
- Heroic Charge may occasionally stun Poppy's target when no collision occurs
(Active): Poppy focuses intensely on a single enemy champion, dealing increased damage to them, and becoming immune to any damage, disruptions and abilities from any enemies, other than her target, including tower damage. Damage increase applies to summoner spells and items used by Poppy.
Cost: 100 mana
Range: 900
- Diplomatic Immunity pops spell shield, preventing the placement of the debuff on the target and Poppy's invulnerability.
- Diplomatic Immunity prevents all damage from turrets.
- Diplomatic Immunity does not prevent damage from the Nexus Obelisk.
- Diplomatic Immunity does prevent damage from the nexus obelisk in dominion
- Dilpomatic Immunity will end prematurely if the target dies.
- The only enemy unit that can affect Poppy with any damage or crowd control is the champion that she targets with Diplomatic Immunity (along with any pets belonging to that champion).
- Quicksilver Sash removes the damage amplification debuff, but Poppy's invulnerability shield will remain.
Tryndamere can be immune to damage for 5 seconds.
Kayle or one of her teamates can be immune to damage for 3 seconds.
However, Poppy can be immune to damage for 8 seconds (if u targeted the right person).
- Valiant Fighter's damage reduction occurs after armor and magic resistance's reduction.
- Valiant Fighter's damage reduction applies to absorption shields.
- Valiant Fighter does not affect True damage.
Poppy is a perfect champion.
Q Devastating Blow gives poppy nice damage output, even though she is building defensive items.
Poppy enhances her next auto attack so that it deals bonus magic damage and an additional 8% of the target's max health as magic damage. The magic damage based on 8% of the target's max health cannot exceed a threshold.

W Paragon of Demacia help poppy deal with AD champion and give her extra ad .

- Minions and turrets attacking Poppy will grant Paragon of Demacia stacks.
E Heroic Chargegives poppy a potent stun and an initiating skill.
(Active): Poppy charges at an enemy and carries them further. The initial impact deals a small amount of magic damage, and if they collide with terrain, her target will take a high amount of magic damage and be stunned for 1.5 seconds.
Range: 525

R Diplomatic Immunity, her ult makes her shine.

Poppy 's ult VS tryndamere's ult VS kayle's ult
Tryndamere can be immune to damage for 5 seconds.
Kayle or one of her teamates can be immune to damage for 3 seconds.
However, Poppy can be immune to damage for 8 seconds (if u targeted the right person).
Passive Valiant Fighter helps her block large damage (ususlly magic damage). With her passive, she can deal with Graves, Veigar, Brand etc.
Valiant Fighter's damage reduction only applies to the portion of the damage that actually exceeds 10% of Poppy's health, not the entire damage.
For example: Poppy has 1000/2000 health and is being hit by a 400 damage nuke (after resistances). The 10% of 1000 is 100. The 400 damage nuke exceeds 10% of current hp (100) by 300. The exceeding 300 damage will be reduced by 50% to 150 by passive. This means you will be dealt 250 damage instead of 400 because 150 was reduced by passive.
Example : ( 400 - ( 1000 x 0.1 ) ) x 0.5 = 150
Formula : ( [damage received] - ([current health] x 0.1) ) x 0.5 = actual damage reduced.
- Valiant Fighter's damage reduction occurs after armor and magic resistance's reduction.
- Valiant Fighter's damage reduction applies to absorption shields.
- Valiant Fighter does not affect True damage.
Poppy is such a perfect champion. U can choose to horn her ability to tank, dps or support etc.
On the other hand, u can keep poppy balance, a balanced poppy can do every job in the team.
All credits go to LOLWIKI
My rune page
Greater Mark of Attack Damage x9 increase your base attack damage by about 9. It can help u deal more damage with your auto attack and Q Devastating Blow.
As i would like to play passively early game with poppy, i boost my AD to help my lasthitting.
U will have quite a lot time lasthitting minion under turret. More AD means more CS and more golds for mid and late game.
Greater Seal of Armorx9, Greater Glyph of Magic Resistx9, Greater Quintessence of Armorx1, Greater Quintessence of Magic Resistx2 can give u lots of early resistance. They can stop your opponent from pushing u out of lane and render u miss your CS(golds)
Other possible runes
Here are Some other runes that are good for poppy , if u don't like to be too passive.
Greater Mark of Attack Speed, Greater Mark of Magic Penetration for marks.
Greater Quintessence of Movement Speed, Greater Quintessence of Health for quintessence.
Greater Glyph of Scaling Magic Resist for glyph.
Greater Seal of Gold for seal.
Greater Quintessence of Movement Speed provide you with some lovely movement speed. Movement speed can help u for chasing and escaping which is vital for poppy.
Greater Mark of Magic Penetration provide poppy with magic penetration. They are good for poppy because all poppy's abilities deal magic damage.
Greater Seal of Gold give u more gold that can help your late game.
And for support poppy, i will strongly recommend Greater Seal of Gold. More gold yeah!!
However, u will lose some armor. But u may also use Greater Mark of Armor to compensate for that. It is a trade-off between golds, armor and AD lol.
Greater Glyph of Scaling Magic Resist is most common that people use for glyph. Most champion is lacking in magic resist unless they build magic resist items.
If u plan to build quite a lot magic resist items or found that they have only 0 to 1 AP character, u can use Greater Glyph of Cooldown Reduction. CDR is always good for poppy. It is because more CDR means more Q Devastating Blow. Make sure your CDR wont be more than 40%. Otherwise it will be a waste.
I will go 3/27/0. I take almost all defensive mastery because they helps poppy's early game and late game if u are building tank. i will put 2 point on
Butcher
, its because u MUST play passively early game. U will have to farm under your turret all the time, it can help your lasthitting a lot. I put 1 point on
Summoner's Wrath
because i take Ignite and Ghost as my summoner's spell and both benefit from it.
However, poppy should not have fixed mastery.
Someone said 9/21/0 is good, someone likes to be more aggressive and go 21/9/0. Both are not bad, u should not follow my guide blindly. Everyone is creative. I'm only here to tell u what masteries, runes and items i use. U should soon find the best way for u to play.

If u push too far from your turret at level 2, u can put 1 point on Heroic Charge(E) first.
In addition, i will not recommend u max one of your Q or W at level 9, its because maxing one ability as soon as possible just doesn't match poppy and its not cost-effective( u are not Syndra lol). There is no fixed skill sequence for poppy in my opinion. If u are facing Tryndamere who deals heavy physical damage and building his The Brutalizer. I don't see any reason for not maxing W Paragon of Demacia first
1. When u are facing an AD bruiser and u need more armor to survive.
2. When your opponent is playing passively like u and no one is gonna trade damage with u.
3. ...
1. When u are gonna spam your Q frequently (for whatever reason)
2. Your opponent is stacking hp and/or armor.( Singed, Darius)
3. ...
1. Their jungler deals mostly magical damage( Diana, Fiddlesticks etc) and AD bruiser ( Talon, Garen, Jarvan IV etc) are not going mid.
2. U are playing extremely aggressively (not recommended) and u have rushed an early philosopher's stone and Sheen. ( Caution: It is more dangerous to u that u have no mana than u have no hp)
PS: U would like to play aggressively early when u are facing Olaf, Vladimir etc, but not extremely aggressively.
3. ...
Let's see what will we gain when we upgrade our Q Devastating Blow. We gain slightly more flat damage for Q, a higher damage cap and 1s CDR of Q.
1. No one will upgrade a skill at lv9 that gives u only 20 more damage each level.
2. The 1s CDR gained let u spam your Q. It seems amazing for poppy to use Q more frequently as Q is poppy's main source of damage. However, u should not overlook the problem that poppy is lacking in mana. CDR is nothing if u don't have enough mana (U are not Katarina, Lee Sin and flipin' ninja ).
Let's see what we gain if we upgrade our W Paragon of Demacia. U can have 5 bonus AD and 5 bonus armor per level of W.
That means, if u upgrade W Paragon of Demacia, u can have more early AD and armor.
Remember that Q is your main source of damage, but auto attack is your second source of damage. W Paragon of Demacia helps your basic attack and Q. It helps both your main and second source of damage plus some resistance. U should not underestimate it.
To sum up(for this section), i will describe Devastating Blow and Paragon of Demacia as bread and butter. They are both essential to poppy. They complement each other.
Should we max first ability at lv 9?
I will not always max the same ability first, sometimes i max Q first , and sometimes i max W first.
I don't see any reason for not maxing W Paragon of Demacia first
When should u max your W Paragon of Demacia first?
Not maxing W at lv9, u should not ignore Q1. When u are facing an AD bruiser and u need more armor to survive.
2. When your opponent is playing passively like u and no one is gonna trade damage with u.
3. ...
When should we max Q Devastating Blow first?
It doesn't mean maxing Q as soon as lv9. It means only to max Q first, u should not ignore your W.1. When u are gonna spam your Q frequently (for whatever reason)
2. Your opponent is stacking hp and/or armor.( Singed, Darius)
3. ...
When to ignore W Paragon of Demacia and max Q Devastating Blow as soon as lv9?
If u are not in one of the following situation, u should not max Q at lv9.1.
3. ...
Why don't i prefer maxing Q Devastating Blow at lv9?
Let's see what will we gain when we upgrade our Q Devastating Blow. We gain slightly more flat damage for Q, a higher damage cap and 1s CDR of Q.
1. No one will upgrade a skill at lv9 that gives u only 20 more damage each level.

Flash is good for poppy. i love using Flash + Heroic Charge combo to quickly stun my opponents. I will use Flash when i have to fight against Darius at top lane. It is because u can use Flash to dodge his pull and u can't use Ghost to do the same thing. Moreover, u need early gank to deal with some of poppy's counter such as Darius, Teemo, Rumble, Olaf.
Ghost: which can be used to escaping or chasing. U can use Ghost to juke your opponents under your turret and simply will get a free kill.
Ignite: some real damage and a healing reduction debuff. Ignite can deal more damage when you are using Diplomatic Immunity (40% more real damage from ignite?? WTF)
Most people think that Ignite is an aggressive summoner spell. However, poppy thinks that it is a defensive spell. Sometimes offense is a kind of defense.
I will use Ignite when enemies are tower diving me, it can be considered as poppy's only ranged ability. u can easily score a kill. The more quickly your tower-diving enemies die, the safer u are.
Exhaust: (recommended when u are playing AD poppy) good for chasing enemies. If you don't like Ignite, it will be a good choice.
Clairvoyance: u may have some questions about why poppy needs Clairvoyance even she is not a support. First I have to tell u that cv is a good spell. Apart from this, u can use cv when people go into bushes. Then, u can use Heroic Charge immediately to quickly deal large amount of damage and stun them for 1.5 seconds. Therefore, feel free to take cv, even though u are not a support, if u need it.
Heal: good spell. It can surprise your enemies and save u from a dangerous situation. Use it when u have less than 100 hp. It can let u absorb much more damage wif ur passive and bait your enemies.
Cleanse: a good choice that can save your life, and it is buffed. It is recommended when u are ap poppy. You can take cleanse if u don't like Ignite.
Smite: for jungler poppy only
Teleport is a good spell for poppy to return to the lane quickly if she is pushed out of lane.
Moreover, some people use it to Back Door. I think it is viable too.
Since poppy will have quite a lot movement speed late game, Teleport seems be outweighed by Ghost, Ignite and Flash.
Barrier is now available in summoner's rift(5v5).
It is good to block a lot of damage. If u use it when u are low, it can benefit from your passive Valiant Fighter a lot. U may need it to save your life when u are fighting against Darius. Tank poppy loves it.
Other summoner spells are not recommended, but u csn still try them, just for fun lol.
Farming is a hard job for poppy, especially ap poppy. U can last hit minion to farm slowly or use your Devastating Blow to increase your farming speed. However, it will cost a lot of mana.
If u are support poppy, congratulation, u wont have this problem because u don't even have to farm.
AP poppy have the worst farming skill. U can aim at killing or assisting to make money.
AD poppy can farm better mid and late game because she will have attack damage and attack speed.
Tank poppy use Sunfire Aegis and Bladed Armor to farm.
My core items will be Trinity Force, Phantom Dancer, Hextech Gunblade and philosopher's stone
philosopher's stone
philosopher's stone provides poppy with some necessary sustain. Hp regen and mana regen make poppy hard to be pushed out from lane. U will rush a philosopher's stone as soon as possible to generate the most gold for yourself. More gold, better mid and late game.
Trinity Force is a perfect item. Poppy is a perfect champion. Perfect item is for perfect champion.
It provides u some AD and AP which improve your damage.
However, AD do nothing without crit chance and attack speed, Trinity Force gives u some attack speed and crit. chance, although it isn't enough.
u do nothing even though u are fed, if u can't chase your enemies. In this case, its bonus movement speed and its passive from Phage will help u chase them down.
What? u said poppy is an assassin, she needs more burst damage?
No worry, the passive from Sheen will help u deals bonus 150% of your AD damage for 1 hit.
To sustain, it provides some HP and mana, u can delay your recall for a longer time.
After taking Trinity Force, u may found that 10% crit chance and 30% more attack speed isn't enough. Therefore, u should build a Phantom Dancer.
Phantom Dancer gives u 50% more attack speed and 30% more crit chance(and u have 40% now).
Moreover, it give u even more movement speed. Wanna catch that fxxking teemo? No problem.
Its unique passive is wonderful. U will ignore unit collision like a Ghost. U will be like having the Warpath of Hecarim or the Nimble Fighter of Fizz. It can help u escape from some sticky situations, and your Heroic Charge can easily stun your target because u will pass through him, and acting as a terrain at their behind(sometimes).
VS
U may replace Phantom Dancer by Nashor's Tooth.
I'm not kidding, it has good cdr, attack speed and mana regen, its mana regen can let u activate your Paragon of Demacia all the time, which greatly increase your mobility. If u want more CDR to spam your Q Devastating Blow, feel free to build it.
With a Trinity Force and a Phantom Dancer, u have great damage and mobility.
Time to get some more sustain.
Hextech Gunblade gives u some more extra AD and AP. U should try to increase your damage all the time or u will be harmless to your enemies.
20% spell vamp and 10% lifesteal can help u regain your health quickly and u will not be afraid of fighting against your (ulted) target 1v1. And with the spell vamp and lifesteal, u can survive most teamfights.
I'm glad to tell u that Hextech Gunblade has a good active and a good passive which makes its active more horrible. Its active can slow and deal some extra damage to your target. Trinity Force and Hextech Gunblade give u double slow. No one is going to escape u.
VS
I take Hextech Gunblade instead of Bloodthirster. It is because I think Bloodthirster is too risky, even though now u will only lose half of your stacks. And I really like the active of Hextech Gunblade. Also, the active of Hextech Gunblade can be reduced by basic attack and single target spell.
Poppy is an assassin, all poppy's spells are single target spell, your prey can never escape u. However, Bloodthirster is still a good item.
Randuin's Omen
its armor, hp help u survive and absorb damage.
it also has good passive and active which reduce opponents' attack speed and move speed. With Randuin's Omen, u can chase down the ADC and Jax more easily.
Guardian Angel
its armor and magic resist help u survive and absorb damage in teamfight
With its lovely passive, u can have a second life to revenge.
Go kill everything.
Its passive gives u a second life with 30% of your hp, it gives u 30% more health indirectly.
Thornmail(to deal with heavy AD team or a extremely fed AD carry, i usually prefer Randuin's Omen than Thornmail)
its 100 armor can help u deal with ad team and an extremely fed ashe.
Remember that its passive will still do damage to people who attack u while are immune to damage(ult) and its reflected damage to enemies count before your armor.
Poppy with Thornmail: Enjoy killing yourselves.
Frozen Heart(i always prefer Randuin's Omen than this item, but u can do a Randuin's Omen + Frozen Heart combo to quickly shut their AD carry down.
Its armor can help u survive.
Its mana and cooldown reduction can help u delay your recall and deals more damage. U can use your Q Devastating Blow more frequently. Spam happy XD.
It also has a nice passive that reduce nearby enemies' attack speed which can be used for shuting their Jax and their adc down.
Quicksilver Sash(if they have heavy CC)(can be upgraded to Mercurial Scimitar which give u a 1 second speed buff and some AD)
its magic resist helps u survive, when they have much magical damage.
U will love the active that remove all CC, u can use it to deal with enemies with heavy CC.
Maw of Malmortius( I will use this only if i have already built a lot of defensive items and i need some more AD. Make sure that u can really survive in the teamfight without your ult, otherwise , don't build it.)
it proviedes u with some AD which help you deal more damage
its magic resist can help u survive in teamfight
In addition, its passive can help u block 500 magic damage(even more when combining with your passive Valiant Fighter) which prevent their AP carry from bursting u down.
its another passive that increase your AD according to your lost hp can make u become more dangerous as your hp drops
Sunfire Aegis
its has some nice HP and armor which help poppy survive in teamfight
its passive deals 40 magical damage to surrounding enemies that can be used on farming creeps.
Again, more CS, more golds.
philosopher's stone
philosopher's stone provides poppy with some necessary sustain.
Their AD carry keeps running and u are tired of chasing him/her?
For more survivability u can build:

A good poppy player must master her Heroic Charge.
It can be used to initiate, chase enemies, escape form dangerous situation, STUN people etc.
Flash + Heroic Charge combo can be very useful.
Remember to buy some wards which will help u a lot. When u are escaping in jungle, u can put a ward at the place that u can see the neutral monsters and use Heroic Charge to target the neutral monsters. With this method u can pass through wall and terrain.
U can also ward bushes and use your Heroic Charge immediately to stun enemies in the bushes.
When u are being ganked or just need to escape, u can run towards enemies' minions and pass through them. Your enemies must follow u. Then u can suddenly charge on a minion and escape(combining Ghost and Paragon of Demacia, no one can chase u.
Go into bushes, bait people to trade damage with u. Then u can just Q him when he come in, and E to an enemy minion then go away. And u win the trade XD.
Remember to buy some pots every time u recall, combining with your passive, you can bait your enemies and the pots usually save your life.
U can use pots in every teamfight. They can give u more HP regen during the teamfight. U are able to absorb more damage with lovey pots. It cost u only 35G, 35G may save your life. I usually use pots to survive the fxxking cheap ult Requiem of Karthus.
Please remember your passive Valiant Fighter can't block true damage and DOT.
Your job will be chasing and killing all their glass cannon.
Chasing them can render them running around and prevent them from dealing damage. U can also create chaos by chasing them. After that, your teamfight will do the rest and your will get an ace.
The one deals the least damage. U will always target their support. However, u should be careful that your team may kill their support as soon as the teamfight starts. Your ult ends when your target dies.
Therefore, if you can't communicate well with your teammates, try to ult their AD bruiser. AD bruiser deals relatively less damage than others to u and they will not die easily.

Who should poppy target with her ult?
