Introduction

Hi! I am Best Lulu NA, now renamed to Courageous Kiwi (since I wanted to play more than just Lulu), and welcome to my first guide! Lulu is a ranged support champion with a ton of crowd control. A good Lulu player can disrupt and dismantle enemy teams while empowering her own, dominating every fight. She is very versatile and can fit into almost any team comp. Whether you're playing the ol' Yasuo wombo combo, or the protect the carry comp, Lulu is the best pick!

About Me

Hi! I am Courageous Kiwi, formerly known as Best Lulu NA. Though I changed my name since I wanted to play other fun picks besides Lulu (also so I wouldnt get camped every time I played Lulu), I have a lot of insight into the workings of Lulu. As of the end of Season 7, I am low Diamond, hovering around Diamond 4-5.

AP Lulu - Item Explanation

Dark Seal - My favorite starting item. It allows Lulu to gain a bonus 30 or so AP when fully stacked. Also allows her to sustain herself in lane slightly more.

Doran's Ring - Standard AP starting item. Gives a decent amount of AP and mana regen

Corrupting Potion - Buy this when you are expected to be bullied in-lane or want to out-sustain the enemy. Don't forget, popping a potion gives a temporary damage buff!

Ionian Boots of Lucidity - Take these if you buy ROA (not needed with Morellonomicon)

Mercury's Treads - These are good against a CC heavy team comp. I do not normally take these unless I am losing lane or am against a very CC heavy team.

Sorcerer's Shoes - Great in the new Lethality/MPEN META.

Boots of Swiftness These are great on Lulu, as they give her a lot of extra Movement Speed, which works wonders with Whimsy.

Lich Bane - This is a great item on Lulu, as she does not put out continuous damage. Not only does Lich Bane allows her to add to her burst, she can win free trades by just using Help, Pix!. This will proc Lich Bane, and do tons of damage!

Spellbinder - I find this item really useful when engaging enemies since, when paired with Whimsy, you can chase down anyone. The AP also helps once you begin the fight.

Rabadon's Deathcap - Tons of damage.

Zhonya's Hourglass - Still viable, I just don't like it that much anymore. When you use it, you cannot utilize your peeling potential, therefore, hurting you and your team. I only take it if an enemy assassin is fed.

Void Staff - Great in the new META (buy with Sorcerer's Shoes and skip Rabadon's Deathcap if you are broke)

Morellonomicon - I like the new Morellos mainly because it provides a little more tankiness to offset the loss of Catalyst the Protector in Everfrost. The bonus AP and magic pen combine a defensive item with an offensive item to allow for an extra item.

Everfrost - This is my new favorite starting item due to its similar early game stats to Rod of Ages. It gives more power with its active and the Hextech effect works very well with your Sheen and Lich Bane.

Banshee's Veil - I personally love taking this item nowadays. Since you've probably read about my whole problem with Zhonya's Hourglass, you would probably understand why I like this item so much. The unique effect allows you to survive against both AP champs and (most) AD champs as well.

Ninja Tabi - With the buff to Ninja Tabi, this item has suddenly become quite viable against fed ADCs and assassins.

Support Lulu - Items Explanation

Mercury's Treads - These are good against a CC heavy team comp. I do not normally take these unless I am losing lane or am against a very CC heavy team.

Ninja Tabi - Good versus most matchups.
ho]] - Tons of damage to lots of people.

Knight's Vow - Buy this against dive comps that you know your ADC will need to stay alive.

Mikael's Blessing - Good versus CC and AP.

Locket of the Iron Solari - The shield effect is not as good as it used to be since its last change, however its stats are still very useful. Buy Zz'Rot Portal if you want similar stats with a different effect.

Eye of the Watchers - Great on Support Lulu if you need a more defensive route, as it frees up an item slot.

Zeke's Convergence - Great with a hypercarry type ADC like Vayne, Tristana, or Jinx.

Ardent Censer - Buy it. You will not regret it.

Redemption - A good item to pick up if your team needs heals.

On-Hit/Machine Gun Lulu - Items Explanation

Blade of the Ruined King - This item is essential on on-hit Lulu, as it allows her to dish out % health damage with a very high attack speed.

Wit's End - Tank shredder and MR boost.

Runaan's Hurricane - Hit 3 enemies instead of 1.

Frozen Mallet - More kiting + health = more living

Mercurial Scimitar - **** CC

Bloodthirster - More healing and more damage for crits.

Black Cleaver - With Runaan's Hurricane, Black Cleaver will apply its passive onto three enemies instead of one. It also increases your survivability as you can now kite easier and will have more health.

Guardian Angel - Live again. Why not?

Skill Sequence

AP Lulu - Taking Help, Pix! at Level 1 is normally better as Lulu it allows her to poke without taking any damage. Most abilities do not do more than around 80 damage (the base shield stat), allowing you to win any trade. Proceed to max Glitterlance, taking a point in Wild Growth whenever you can. At Level 8, you have a choice. Maxing E will give you immense damage, and allow you to demolish trades, while maxing W will give you more roaming and 1v1 potential.

Support Lulu - Maxing Whimsy first allows you to peel and roam. Maxing Help, Pix! second allows you to protect your teammates in the midgame teamfights.

On-Hit/Machine Gun Lulu - Max W first, because it will allow you to be able to kite with an enormous attack speed buff. E second, for the shield. And Q third, for the CC.

Runes Reforged

AP Lulu

Primary Rune Path: Domination

Electrocute - Basically the updated Thunderlords. It provides tons of burst that Lulu needs to dish out good burst.

Cheap Shot - To add onto the burst from Electrocute, Hextech Revolver and Lich Bane, Cheap Shot adds additional true damage to your combo.

Eyeball Collection - This works very well on Lulu as the bonus AD helps your auto attack damage, while the AP adds to your burst.

Ravenous Hunter - Just provides some extra healing. Relentless Hunter is also a good choice if you know you can stomp lane.

Secondary Rune Path: Sorcery

Transcendence - This rune is perfect for Lulu as she often goes over the CDR cap quite easily due to the items she buys. Nullifying Orb is a good alternative pick if you know you are against a bursty AP mid laner or team.

Gathering Storm - Gives good scaling over the course of the game to allow you to keep scaling even if everyone is full build.

On Hit Lulu

Primary Rune Path: Precision

Lethal Tempo - Perfect on On Hit Lulu as you will easily fly past the attack speed cap with Whimsy.

Overheal - This works perfectly when comboed with Blade of the Ruined King and Runaan's Hurricane. You will easily heal past full HP due to how many targets you will be healing off of.

[[Legend: Alacrity}} - Bonus attack speed, pretty straightforward.

Cut Down - Lulu has pretty low base HP, so 90% of the time you'll be attacking people with more max HP than you.

Secondary Rune Path: Sorcery

Celerity - This bonus MS, on top of the slows and MS given by the items you bought, allows you to easily kite your opponents.

Gathering Storm - Gives good scaling over the course of the game to allow you to keep scaling even if everyone is full build.

Support Lulu

Primary Rune Path: Inspiration

Glacial Augment - This allows you to easily poke your enemy laners and keep the pressure off of your ADC.

Biscuit Delivery - Constant trading requires health, this provides a little extra help when staying in lane.

Magical Footwear - By having free boots, you save extra money, something that is quite scarce as a support.

Approach Velocity - Basically you can just save your team faster if they get caught out.

Secondary Rune Path: Resolve

Revitalize - Basically the new Windspeakers.

Conditioning - Just gives you more durability in case you get caught out.

Summoner Spells

Flash - Essential on almost every champion.

Ignite - Take this when you have kill pressure.

Teleport - Not bad. I'd only take it against a roaming mid-laner like Twisted Fate, Aurelion Sol, or Taliyah.

Ghost - Useful against skillshot reliant champions.

Cleanse - This is pretty good on Lulu, as she can't buff anyone if she is CC'ed.

Exhaust - Good against AD assassin mid-laners, although I normally take Ignite.

Spells

Pix, Faerie Companion - Honestly, this is one of my favorite passives in the game. It turns Lulu into a mini gun. Here are the stats:
Pix, Faerie Companion fires a barrage of 3 bolts, dealing 3 + (4 per 2 levels) magic damage each, totaling 9 + (12 per 2 levels) (+15% of ability power), at whomever Lulu attacks.
Casting Help, Pix! on an ally transfers Pix's help to them for the duration.
These bolts are homing but can be blocked by other units.

Glitterlance - This is your bread and butter.
Lulu and Pix, Faerie Companion each fire a magic bolt towards the target point, dealing magic damage to all units they pass through and Slow icon slowing them by 80%, decaying over a short duration. Units are only affected by one bolt.
MAGIC DAMAGE: 80 / 125 / 170 / 215 / 260 (+ 50% AP)
SLOW DURATION: 1 / 1.25 / 1.5 / 1.75 / 2
A trick I like to do is to Help, Pix! and Glitterlance the enemy. 9 times out of 10, they will never notice you casted Help, Pix! on the minion. Just watch out for your mana bar, this combo costs a lot of mana. Also, if you take Intelligence over Precision, you can use Glitterlance twice before Help, Pix! expires (Thanks to The Facepalmer for that extra tip!).

Whimsy - This ability is stupidly overpowered. You and your allies can escape almost any situation. On average, I get about an additional 40%-65% Movement Speed because it gives an additional 10% Movespeed per 100 AP.
Lulu casts erratic magic upon the target champion, giving them bonus attack speed and 30% (+ 5% per 100 AP) bonus movement speed for the next few seconds if they are an ally, or polymorphing them and slowing them by a flat 60 for a shorter duration if they are an enemy.
DURATION: 3 / 3.25 / 3.5 / 3.75 / 4
POLYMORPH DURATION: 1.25 / 1.5 / 1.75 / 2 / 2.25
BONUS ATTACK SPEED: 15 / 20 / 25 / 30 / 35%

Help, Pix! - This ability is actually very interesting. You can set up very nice long range snipes by using Help, Pix! and waiting until they group to Glitterlance.
Lulu sends Pix, Faerie Companion to the target unit, shielding them for up to 6 seconds if they are an allied champion, or dealing magic damage to her target and granting True Sight icon true sight of them for 4 seconds if they are an enemy.
SHIELD STRENGTH: 80 / 120 / 160 / 200 / 240 (+ 60% AP)
MAGIC DAMAGE: 80 / 110 / 140 / 170 / 200 (+ 40% AP)

Wild Growth - This is one of my favorite abilities. It's way better than Intervention because it's duration lasts way longer than Intervention.
Lulu enlarges the target allied champion, Airborne icon knocking up units around them for 0.75 seconds, and giving her target bonus health and causing them to slow nearby units for 7 seconds.
BONUS HEALTH: 300 / 450 / 600 (+ 50% AP) health
SLOW: 30 / 45 / 60%
A cool trick I like to do when in a 1v1 is to Flash then immediately Wild Growth. It knocks the enemy up, allowing you to combo it into your Whimsy, rendering them useless for a full 3 seconds. Just be careful that you wont get ganked, as you are using both of your escapes.

Pros / Cons

PROS
-Tons of CC
-Can still be relevant in games even after losing lane
-Buff teammates
-Disable enemies
-Great 1v1 potential with her W
-Very strong from Levels 1-6
-High mobility with her W
-Can save allies in a breeze
-Facilitate ganks
-High base stats

CONS
-Unless you're full AP or on-hit Lulu, it is very hard to solo carry a game
-Relies on teammates to dish out consistent damage (unless you're on-hit)
-Tends to be weaker from Levels 7-10
-Easily killed when CC'ed

In Lane

In lane, you should focus on farming and short trades. If your cannon minion is low on HP, try to trade with the enemy laner. Most likely, they will be more focused on the minion and will react too late to your poke. Just try not to push the wave too far out. Here is a slightly outdated (but still useful) map of the best places to put Pink Wards.

In Teamfights

In teamfights, you want to play just like a support. Stay with your carries and don't stray too far away. Although (unless your teammate is more fed), use Wild Growth on yourself instead of an ally unless he is about to die and you are safe.

Ganking & Roaming

When you your teammate is coming to gank, don't change your play style until the enemy can actually see your teammate. Proceed to then Whimsy yourself or teammate and Help, Pix! + Glitterlance the enemy. If they are still alive, you can Flash + Wild Growth to knock them up and slow them. If your teammate is close to them, you can use Wild Growth on your teammate instead.
When roaming, do not use Whimsy on the enemy, just Help, Pix! --> AA --> Glitterlance --> Flash + Wild Growth.

Summary

Overall, I believe Lulu is a very versatile champion who can adapt to very many play styles. She relies heavily on her team, which can be a pain when your team is losing. As long as you remain calm and remember to cycle through your spells instead of spamming them, you should win every 1v1 and many teamfights. Although, you should be able to carry your team as long as one other lane is winning. In my opinion, AP Lulu and on-hit Lulu should only be played after you are comfortable with support Lulu.
