Introduction

Hi there again :)

This is my build of AP carry Soraka. If you look on my first guide for Dominion, maybe you will be a little surprise. Because the build is almost identical. So please don´t hate me for copying chapter like Abilities and so on from my first guide, but these basic information are always the same.
I just didn´t want to write to Dominion guide about Classic game :)

This guide is about the way I play, please comment/vote only if you have tried the build once.

One more thing. If you want to try this build, write your team that you are AP carry during Champion Selection. It will protect you from some troubles.

Summoner Spells

You should have at least one possibility how to escape from ganking or sometimes you need to catch up your enemy.

This is awesome spell, it helps me a lot during fight. Great against Soraka for example, because it reduces healing. And thanks to Summoner's Wrath you have some AP, when you use it.

Other choices

  • When I started playing with Soraka I always used Clairvoyance. It gives you awareness of situation on the map and feeling of security.
    .
  • Exhaust is especially great choice against AD champions. It can often save your life and help to kill your enemy.
    .
  • With one more Heal you will become indestructible. Great combination with Wish.
    .
  • I don´t have a lot of experience with Surge, but these AP from it are useful.

Abilities

Consecration




Consecration Consecration: This is nice passive. Early game it´s very useful especially during Team Fights against Mages.

But be careful, this passive can have an opposite effect. If you want to go help to your team and hide in bush, it can reveal your presence.



Starcall: This is Soraka main damage ability. A little unpleasant is short range (only 335), but it´s balanced with short cooldown. Starcall also reduce Magic Resistance for 8 sec. It can stacks up to 10 times.

Tips and Tricks
  • You can try to keep debuff from Starcall, lower MR = better damage
  • Starcall has low range, but it gives damage to all enemies in range. For example: When you are fighting against Shaco or Teemo and they are trying to get you to bushes, you don´t need to go. Just stay beside bushes and use Starcall. Same for Evelynn or Twitch. Even they are invisible, they are still here.
  • If there is Shaco in Enemy Team and you are not sure if you can go to bush, because there can be Jack In The Box. Use Starcall before you enter the bush. It won´t have the visual effect, but if Jack In The Box is there, you can use it.



Astral Blessing: This is one of best single target heal in game. Little problem is long cooldown, even you have 40% cdr your Astral Blessing has 12 sec cooldown.

Tips and Tricks
  • Don´t wait too long to use Astral Blessing, don´t forget that it give your target Bonus Armor for 5 sec (125 Armor at lvl 5).
  • It´s a good combination with Heal and Wish.



Infuse: "Silence! I kill you!!" very well-known sentence. Infuse has 2 ways how to use it:
First: you can Silence your enemy for 2.5 sec on 5 lvl. So you can save your own or your Team lives with Infuse.
Second: You can refill yours or your team mate mana. Well, becouse of this I don´t focus on Mana Regen items or Runes.

Tips and Tricks



Wish: This is the best heal in the game. It instantly heals your whole team.

Tips and Tricks
  • If you don´t have premade and voice communication, you should often watch your mini map and your team.
  • When you have Karthus in enemy team, try to use your Wish every time when he use his Requiem. With this, there is chance to save your team.

Soraka isn´t Champion who immediately start fighting with enemy champion. You usually die. Late game the possibility to do this is real. That´s why there is that harrasing method.
So when you decreased enemy HP, use , then and after that again and again

Extreme Important Information - SelfCast

How many letter do you use???
I suppose that you are using Abilities: Q W E R and Spells: D F

NOT ENOUGH!

So when you need heal yourself and there are a lot of minions or enemy champions then targeting yourself is hard (same for Infuse)
That´s why there is SelfCast
If you want to play Soraka well you really need to set this.
I personally set SelfCast of Astral Blessing on A and Infuse on S
So my skill sequence is little different. During Team Fights I use:

E-> W -> Q -> R

but when I am targeted or when I fight 1vs1 I use:

E -> Q -> A -> Q -> E -> R -> S (depend on situation)
Of course D and F too.

You can set your selfcast in game when you wait on start.

Core Items are still same. But I started buying Kindlegem. Thanks to this I always have 40% cdr -> 6 sec Infuse, 12 sec Astral Blessing, 60 sec Wish.

So ... I start game with Doran's Ring or Boots + 2x Health Potion and 1x Mana Potion.
You should be more careful on mid now, you have lower HP and AP. But Boots are needed against Ahri or Karthus (and other mages).

I make Sorcerer's Shoes earlier than CDR Items. Because Movement Speed is necessary (Sometimes I buy Fiendish Codex before Sorcerer's Shoes, it depends on situation. The next thing is Fiendish Codex. Reason is simple -> 10% CDR. After that I buy Kindlegem and then complete my Morello's Evil Tome. Now you have 40% cdr. I am still buying Elixir of Brilliance, but now because of AP. It´s time to buy Rylai's Crystal Scepter. It give you more HP and AP and great advantage for your Starcall and Infuse (Slowing enemies). Spirit Visage, well you have good heals and damage, that´s why you will be one of main targets in team fight. You need to stay alive (this is the reason, why I changed my build).
In the end I buy Banshee's Veil and Zhonya's Hourglass.

Of course, everething depends on situation:
If I get lot of kills and I am not dying, then I buy Rabadon's Deathcap before Rylai's Crystal Scepter. And rather than Spirit Visage I buy Zhonya's Hourglass to have more AP or one of Situational Items.
If everything goes well, then I buy items according build.

Well, I prefer playing with 40% cd, that´s why I still buy Morello's Evil Tome and Kindlegem before pure AP Items. But once I buy my cdr Items, it´s time to buy Rabadon's Deathcap and Rylai's Crystal Scepter. Last Item is Zhonya's Hourglass.

Situational Items

If you buy one of these items don´t forget to change positions in your inventory.
  • Deathfire Grasp is the part of my build. It gives you extra attack ability. I am using Deathfire Grasp at the start of the fight. More HP = more dmg
    .
  • Zhonya's Hourglass is very useful item, when you are targeted a lot. Give you more AP and Armor (good choice against AD carry) and it can save your life.
    .
  • Moonflair Spellblade you should buy this item if you don´t feel safe because of Stuns, Shackles and so on. It give you some AP too.
    .
  • Quicksilver Sash is other version of Cleanse. Great against Fiddlesticks and his Terrify or Malzahar and his Nether Grasp. It won´t cancel it (you still get dmg from it), but with Quicksilver Sash you can run away from it or Stun / Silence Malzahar. This is great item against Taunt too ( Rammus, Shen, Galio).

  • Randuin's Omen is good choice against AD champions. You have 20% chance to slow you enemy attack speed and movement or you can Activate it and reduce Attack Speed and Movement all enemies in range. Great combination with Exhaust.

  • Shurelya's Battlesong give you and your team movement speed (better ability to change place). (When Dominion started there was item with similar Active - Priscilla's Blessing, but it was removed.
    .
  • Guardian Angel maybe int´s so great in Dominion, but it gives you more resists and revive you if you die.
    .
  • Rabadon's Deathcap give you nice AP. Now this is Situational Item for me too. I buy it according enemy team and my kills/deaths. (If you are dying this item won´t save you.)

Playing Style

Soraka is noteworthy champion. There 3 ways how you can play with her.
.
1st way: Bottom Lane
Maybe you don´t believe me, but this is the most difficult way, because you are not alone here. You have to pay attention to you team mate and usually to 2 enemies.
SPACE 2nd way: Mid Lane
I can say, that it depends on enemy combination, but I usually prefer this Lane.
SPACE 3rd way: Top solo Lane
This is my favourite Lane. Why? Because there is high chance to meet meele off tank or something like this.

It depends on you which one you want to play. But don´t forget! Everywhere you need Wards.

Mid Lane

On this Lane there is the high chance to meet one of mages. You start with Infuse, so you can harass them with Silence. At lvl 2 you have Starcall, that means that you can improve your harassing style.
When I take my enemy about half HP, I start wondering. Should I try to kill him??? I check the map and then I made a decision. If he attacks I use Ignite, Infuse and Starcall or sometimes I am the one who attaks, so I use Flash and then the same way of attack (This method gave me a lot of First Blood).

Anivia

She isn´t the easiest one. If you start with this build, Anivia isn´t the right choice, but if you want to try it:
Anivia keeps a distance from you. People usually know about range of Infuse and Starcall, that´s why. Be sure to avoid her Flash Frost. If you get stun, she will immediately use her Frostbite, because of debuff from Flash Frost she will give you bigger damage. Once Anivia get 6 lvl and her Glacial Storm, she will become sassy. Beware of her combination of attacks. Don´t forget on her Passive. You need to kill her twice (If her Rebirth is ready).

-> You should keep distance and avoid her Flash Frost. But always when she use it, she will come near to you. It´s your chance to use Infuse and Starcall. If you see that she will stun you for sure, try to Silence her, then she can´t hurt you with her Frostbite during your stun.

Malzahar

Clever Malzahar won´t come near you. Be sure to avoid his Call of the Void. It will Silence you, he usually use it behind you (He thinks that you want to run away :)) Malzahar will find out that the only way how to hurt you is through Malefic Visions. So keep distance from him, but from minions (who have it) too. The biggest problem is his Nether Grasp. Combination of his 3 attacks is death for you.

-> You should be careful and avoid his Call of the Void. Use Infuse on him as you can. You can kill him easily, but there is a way how he play against Soraka. Be more careful if he buy Hextech Revolver his Malefic Visions will hurt you, because he max it as first ability.
Good choice to buy
Quicksilver Sash against his Nether Grasp.

Vladimir

Clever Vladimir won´t come near you, but they are stupid (Thanks goodness xD). You can use Infuse before he use Transfusion on you. But keep distance a little, because his Transfusion has short cooldown. So just don´t be greedy :) You give him more damage with Infuse than he can heal with Transfusion. Be careful with Sanguine Pool, he don´t use it only to escape, but to attack too. With Hemoplague will start a little trouble, but don´t worry, because Silence is powa :)

-> You should be attentive and use Infuse whenever he come towards you. Thanks to Ignite he won´t heal himself so much. But be careful, when ha has Transfusion on lvl 5, he has only 4 sec cd on it ( Infuse has 6 sec with 40% cdr).

Veigar

Veigar usually starts with Baleful Strike in order to stack his AP. Little harder is to dodge his Stun - Event Horizon. If you get stunned, he will try to use Dark Matter. His Primordial Burst will hurt a lot when both of you get a lot of AP.

-> Veigar is squishy, use your Infuse as much as you can. If he hurts you with Dark Matter, go back for a while to heal yourself. He will often try to stun you, if you get inside his Event Horizon, try to stay in the middle and don´t get stun. You can still fight.

Swain

Swain will try to caught you with Nevermove, but it isn´t so hard to avoid it (He often use it as Malzahar his Call of the Void -> behind you). If you will dodge his Nevermove and hurt him, he can chance strategy. He will start to keep distance from you, so beware of his combination Torment and Decrepify. And he is same as Anivia and others, once he gets Ravenous Flock, he will become sassy.

-> Try to dodge his Nevermove and use Infuse with Starcall whenever you can. But keeping distance is important, especially when he gets his Ravenous Flock. If you want to fight with him, prepare your Ignite.

Ahri

Well, Ahri is little complicated. All her spells have too good range.
She is usually using Orb of Deception through minions on you. And once you aren´t behind minions, her combination begins: Charm -> Orb of Deception -> Fox-Fire and if you are still alive and trying escape Spirit Rush is your the end.

-> You should stay behind minions and avoid Orb of Deception, you are starting with Boots, it´s not so difficult to avoid it. Once you aren´t behind minions, be sure dodge her Charm. It´s usually your death. But don´t worry, because Ahri is one of conceited champions, she will come near you (not always, some people have little respect against Soraka).

Viktor

The first impression of Viktor is little problematic. Main problem is his Power Transfer, because it´s on Target. And when he use his augment on Power Transfer and use it, he will get extra 30% movement speed for 3 sec. Be sure to try dodge his Hextech Ray especially when he use his augment on this ability (extra magic damage over some sec). His Gravity Field don´t give you damage, but slow and stun if you will stay in it too long. His augment of this spell give him some mana, 10% cdr, but the main thing is additional 30% cast range for Gravity Field (from 625 cast range to 812,5). His Arcane Storm give you some magic damage immediately and then this spell will be following you for sure and hurting you.

Top Solo Lane

Not so many people will expect you to go solo top. There are usually meele off tanks. That´s why I like it here so much O:)

Important rule
If you push hard, be sure to have ward in water. And if your enemy suddenly start attack, even he has low HP, their jungler is there too.
(This rule applies everywhere.)

Akali won´t hurt you if you will keep distance. But be sure, that she will find out soon, that the only way how to hurt you is through Mark of the Assassin. Little problem will start with lvl 6 and her Shadow Dance. Don´t underestimate her, Akali is really strong champion.

-> You should keep distance and use Infuse as much as you can. Be sure, that you can deal a lot of damage to her with Silence. If she use Twilight Shroud, immediately spam Starcall. Don´t fight with her inside her Twilight Shroud.

Alistar

With Alistar there are some problems. He will use Triumphant Roar a lot, but don´t let it worry you. Be careful with his Pulverize, if he suddenly comes towards you, enemy jungler is close. That´s why Wards and distance is relevant.

-> You should keep distance and use Infuse as much as you can. Be careful, if you push him to tower, he will try to get behind you and use Headbutt and then Pulverize. Don´t underestimate his Unbreakable Will, if he is clever and use it with half HP and no as method to escape, he can kill you.

Garen

Garen has big endurance, it´s troublesome. He will often use his Judgment. But real problem is when he hide in bush. He will dash towards you with Decisive Strike and then he will use Judgment. Big problem is his Demacian Justice, if you have low HP don´t stay on Lane with him, Turret won´t protect you all the time.

-> Distance is important, moreover be close to him when he use Judgment isn´t safe. Be sure that he will want to Silence you from bushes, don´t give him this advantage. And keep your's eyes open during fight he will use Courage. It´s the same bother like Unbreakable Will.

Lee Sin

Lee Sin trouble, if I can call it like that, will start with 2 lvl. If he choose Sonic Wave / Resonating Strike and Safeguard / Iron Will. Dash towards you, dash away from you. Really annoying method. Once he has all his 3 abilities, he will start his Dashing method with Tempest / Cripple. With his Dragon's Rage he will try to get you to his turret or prevent your escaping.

-> Try to avoid his Sonic Wave / Resonating Strike, if you are running away, he will try to fire it in front of you. Use traditional harassing method and beware his Dragon's Rage, Soraka isn´t champion who fight near enemy tower.

Malphite

Malphite will spam his Seismic Shard on you. It´s a little problem, because you need heal yourself and it costs a lot of mana early game. But if you keep distance, you don´t have to have worry about his other abilities except his ultimate Unstoppable Force.

-> He will use his Seismic Shard all the time. Your advantage is, that you can refill your mana and use your abilities all the time. But be careful during pushing to his turret, his Unstoppable Force is perfect combination for attack with their jungler.

Nasus

Nasus will try to stack damage on his Siphoning Strike. You can interrupt it with your Infuse and make him some problems. Be careful with his Wither, it´s the worst slow I know. Very good combination with the attack of their jungler (If you push hard, you will give them First Blood).

-> You can catch many of his tries to stack damage. If you let him stack damage on Siphoning Strike, it will hurt you a lot. Be sure that you want escape when he use Wither on you and don´t forget that his ultimate Fury of the Sands give him some HP.

Wukong

His method? He will dash to you with Nimbus Strike, then use Crushing Blow on you and dissapear with Warrior Trickster. I hate him, when he use this combination >:( Be sure that when he will do this a few times, your HP will be really low and he can kill you easily. Moreover his Cyclone stop you from escaping.

-> Don´t rush so much to pushing him. Just harass him from distance. Beware of his combination, when he is in bush, it´s almost impossible to dodge it. Zhonya's Hourglass are maybe good protection from his combination.

Yorick

I can say it clearly. I hate HIM! He started with Meki Pendant and spammed his Omen of Pestilence on me all the time. Once I hurt him, he used Omen of Famine and had full HP again. I was in shock, he spammed his skills all the time and had no problem with mana. Once he get Omen of Death, it was like little cherry on the cake.

-> Don´t choose him as the opponent, if you can change lane. If you can´t, then defend your turret and rely on your jungler and team.

Bottom Lane

One more thing I have to say about this chapter. I play with my friends and we have voice communication. So if I am with them on Lane, I don´t care what kind of champ they have.
I can say it clearly. The reason why I don´t like Bottom Lane is because there is chance to play with strangers (We play at 4 people).

That´s why I find bottom lane to be the hardest lane, as I have to share it with the AD carry. I find that Soraka has more potential in a solo lane for me.

For me the worst combination I have ever met was (as my opponents on Bottom Lane):

Both of them were AP and Sion maxed his Death's Caress as first.
Traditional attack -> Sion used his Death's Caress in bush and Morgana used Black Shield on him. You can´t Silence him because of that and he can use his Cryptic Gaze with no problems.

-> I am sorry, but I am not sure how to defeat this combo, maybe with gank from our jungler.

Ganking Wards

You are asking me why you should buy Wards? Besides you don´t have Gold Regenration Items.
Reason is simple.
.
If you buy ward, you will be protected before ganking. That means you won´t die (if you aren´t stupid and won´t stay on lane too long).
I can say that I was wondering too. If I don´t buy wards, I will have more money and better items. But look at it from other side. Without wards they will gank you ... You will have less gold and worse items :)
That´s the reality.
.
All these wards are in the bushes. The priority is have ward in water (Top and Bottom). But sometimes 2 wards are better (Own experience, when Jungler was Shaco).
(There are Vision Ward in the water on the Map. I saw this strategy once. Because of that your opponent can´t use there Sight Ward - it´s useless.)

Games with this build
