Champion Build Guide

Jungle Lifesteal Soraka

By Tauricus2017
Introduction
Welcome
We all know that Soraka is probably the worst possible champion you can play in jungle together with Yuumi. That's because Soraka has only a single spell that works on monsters, her health and armor numbers are super low, she has literally no way of self sustain and her attack damage is the 8th lowest in the entire game. To keep things short - Soraka sucks in jungle and winrates are showing it off pretty clearly. However I have made myself a task to show people the best way of playing her. Don't have high hopes, your winrate most likely won't surpass 30% but still, I want to show you all you need to know to be as good as possible and maybe just maybe even carry a game If you will be lucky enough.
When to Go Soraka Jungle?
YOU WANT TO HAVE FUN

AD Lifesteal Soraka jungle definitely isn't viable nor good however you can have a lot of fun playing it. Playing a champion in a different role can also enhance your point of view on the game itself. It is important to remember Why are you really playing LoL - having fun and collecting experience should be your main priorities after all.
YOU WANT TO DEAL WITH TANKS

This build can shred through tanky Armor stacking opponents, like a knife through butter. Thanks to items like Enchantment: Bloodrazor, Blade of the Ruined King or Runaan's Hurricane, you might become a monster your enemies won't be able to deal with at any cost. You saw nothing. You saw nothing. You saw nothing. You saw nothing.
YOU WANT TO BE VERSATILE

Jungle Soraka is a pure definition of versatility. She can apply a lot of DPS with her auto attacks while doing solid damage with spells. She can heal allies while healing herself as well. She can build items from Bloodthirster, right through Redemption to Spirit Visage. She can choose from both options of available Smites and she can build literally everything.
Cons & Cons

Cons

→ Horrible Clear Speed
→ Very often Recalls
→ Low Sustain
→ Only 1 'Usable' Ability
→ Low AD
→ Low Defensive Stats

Cons

→ Very Low Winrate ~15%
→ Horrible Ganks
→ Report Magnet
→ Allies Are Likely Not To Help You
→ Needs To Build AD
→ No Escape Ability
Items Detailed
Better DPS
Soraka needs a jungle item that allows her to clear camps much faster. However because she has only 1 AP spell that she can use against monster - Enchantment: Runic Echoes suck pretty hard. Enchantment: Warrior is useless as well because Soraka has 0 AD scaling in her kit and Enchantment: Cinderhulk should be self explanatory. Enchantment: Bloodrazor can also melt down tankier opponents pretty damn quickly thanks to its passive.

Better Ganks and DPS
Soraka sucks hard while ganking as she has no way to gap close or CC her target. Blade of the Ruined King provides you both as well as super good passive that works amazingly on jungle camps and tankier enemies. The lifesteal is also super important in order to start outhealing jungle camps

Healing And Money Efficiency
When Soraka reaches later points in the game, she often has to sell her Rejuvenation Bead which sucks a bit as you lose some precious gold by doing that. Redemption allows you to utilize that one Rejuvenation Bead as it is one of its item components. Redemption also allows you to maintain solid Astral Infusion and Wish healing and provides an insane temafight game changer ultra heal that also pairs well with Spirit Visage.

Outsustaining the Camps
Bloodthirster is our key item in order to maximize our sustain and stay alive for as long as possible. The passive shield is super handy as it is easy to stack up and it combines nicely with Overheal. Bloodthirster also provides an insane AD bonus which is great for faster and healthier clear speed.

More Healing And Magic Resist
Great item that synergies with this build super well. All healing YOU receive is increased by 30% meaning more healing from lifesteal, Ravenous Hunter, Wish, Starcall, Smite, Redemption, etc. Super good item, even better when you are playing against heavy AP team composition as you reduce their damage a lot.

More DPS and Magic Resist
A really good item that provides you cheap and effective source of attack speed and magic resist. At low health this item can also provide you a solid healing boost which can turn the fight around. The attack speed pairs well with other on-hit effects in our build like Enchantment: Bloodrazor or Blade of the Ruined King

Omega Armor King
A great full on Armor focused item that can be devastating for enemy crit carries like Yasuo, Tryndamere, Vayne or any ADC that builds crit. It provides you no real boost in damage but saves your life many times. The active ability can be used to get rid of contact champions nearby giving you enough time to run away.

More DPS Combo Piece
A super great item when paired with powerful on-hit effects like Blade of the Ruined King, Enchantment: Bloodrazor, Wit's End or even life steal items like Bloodthirster. This item is especially effective when facing many tanky champions as it will be easy for you to hit most of the bolts. When enemies have low amount of tanks and will spread away from each other, it may be harder to utilize this item.

Anti Burst Damage + DPS
Great and super nice to have item that protects you from powerful bursty champions that try to kill you with one devastating combo. The item also provides solid stats for more damage and on-hit effects as well as great boost to movement speed that can be crucial in many cases.

More Healing And Burst Damage
A great but expensive item that provides you a lot of lifesteal from all sources of your damage (including Equinox and Starcall). It offers AP, making it also great for scaling of all your abilities. The active of this items might seem unnecessary as you already have Blade of the Ruined King with similar ability but trust me, having it twice WILL come in handy.

Healing DPS Hybrid
An item that really fits this build. It boosts your healing output from spells like Wish, Astral Infusion or healing items Redemption. Note that when you heal someone you give the target AND YOURSELF, bonus attack speed and on-hit damage. That goes really well with our attack speed based items like Blade of the Ruined King or Enchantment: Bloodrazor.
Rejuvenation Beads
Rejuvenation Bead is the cheapest item in the entire game that provides reliable and repeatable form of self healing. As you have probably seen, in this guide we are building 3-4 of them regularly. Together with Smite, Fleet Footwork, Ravenous Hunter, Refillable Potion, Hunter's Talisman and Legend: Bloodline we can achieve the point in the game, when we are healing more then monsters are damaging us, much faster. Then you can finally join the game itself. If you will ignore Rejuvenation Beads, feel free to do so, but expect very frequent and very annoying recalls, super slow snowballing and leaving jungle camps mid clear on a daily bases.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you think you are skilled enough in towing the creeps and outrunning their attacks - Do not buy Rejuvenation Beads 4 times. 4 Rejuvenation Beads are only for new people there or mid-skilled people. Once you master running around camps and towing them, you should be satisfied with just 1 Rejuvenation Bead!!
Which Smite?

STALKER'S BLADE
VS

SKIRMISHER'S SABRE
The slow Chilling Smite can apply is super strong while ganking. It allows you to keep up with your enemy and hit easy Equinox root. However once you get to your Blade of the Ruined King. This item loses its efficiency ad their effect is pretty much the same. Buy this item only when you plan on performing very frequent ganks. This item is generally a bit better. The damage reduction from Challenging Smite is very sweet and allows you to survive some problematic situations. This item then spikes out super well into the late game, as our build features tons of attack speed. Buy this item in most general cases or when you feel like not ganking all that often.

A strategy I very rarely see junglers using is switching the Stalker's Blade into Skirmisher's Sabre and or vice versa. For just a little money that 172 gold is, you can easily switch one item into the other and get a great advantage later in the game or get the advantage of surprise. You usually want to use it to transform Stalker's Blade into Skirmisher's Sabre. This way you maintain the solid potential of early ganks with Chilling Smite while transitioning into a better late game/battle oriented Challenging Smite after you finish your Blade of the Ruined King.

Runes Detailed

PRECISION

Soraka has an extremely bad early game in the jungle. For that reason we need a rune that is actually useful there. Lethal Tempo, Press the Attack, etc. might seem stronger at the first glance, but you will never get through the early game If you will keep dying to Ancient Krug. For that reason we need a stable and early game oriented rune that makes our early game just a tiny bit more enjoyable. Luckily Fleet Footwork has all you really need. More sustain and movement speed so you can more easily heal & keep your distance from monster attack range.
As we want to focus on lifesteal oriented build path, it is sure thing that we will eventually get to the point where lifesteal no longer heals because we are at full health. For that reason Overheal is here to give us a bit longer health bar.
Legend: Bloodline is a self-explanatory here. It makes sense that in lifesteal oriented build - you want lifesteal. However all options CAN be good. Against tank opponents Legend: Alacrity is a phenomenal choice and against CC champions like Morgana or Elise - Legend: Tenacity does the trick.
As our build features literally all the healing of the world, we are able to remain at low health for a longer period of time then most other champions. Also less health you have, the stronger your damage is and more you heal thanks to Last Stand!!
Attack Speed is a super great rune that helps our early game and supports some on-hit items in our build as well. Adaptive Force is great simply for more raw damage. Then go for rather Tenacity and Slow Resist or Shield depending on your enemies' teamcomp.
Summoner Spells
FLASH
Soraka has no real way to escape from sticky situations. She has no dash or blink in her kit making her a sweet and affordable prey for pretty much everyone with some form of damage. That's why Flash is here for us. It is probably the most universal summoner spell in the game - allowing us to escape death, chase kills, cancel ability animations, getting unexpectable Smite or dodging important abilities.

SMITE
Smite is a right hand of every jungler in the game. It helps you quickly deal with monster and sustain yourself well enough for the next one. It allows you to build jungle items like Hunter's Talisman or Enchantment: Bloodrazor or steal important objectives like baron nashor or elder dragon. A necessary summoner spell in every game.
Combos
Heal Ally

+
✦ Requires 85 mana (+5 mana for every additional point in Astral Infusion or Starcall)
✦ This combo allows you to heal your allies more efficiently as you lose less health while healing more!

Quick Save

+ +
✦ Requires 140 mana (+5 mana for every additional point in Astral Infusion)
✦ This combo works well when you need to quickly save an ally in danger. Use Flash to cancel the animation of Wish and get into a range of Astral Infusion
✦ This combo shouldn't be used when the target ally is under Grievous wounds effect (reduces incoming healing by 45%) but it gets stronger foe every heal amplifying item like Redemption or Shurelya's Battlesong.

Escape

+ +
✦ Requires 45 mana (+5 mana for every additional point in Starcall)
✦ This combo works well when you need to quickly escape while your Flash is off.
✦ A lot of people don't know that Blade of the Ruined King and Chilling Smite, don't just slow their targets - but STEAL their movement speed, giving some of the speed of your opponent to you for few seconds.
Jungle Plants
Jungle plants may seem like an unnecessary, stupid or even useless topic to teach yourself. After all red flower goes boom, blue flower goes fííí and green flower goes squish. Most players consider Jungle plants so innocent and expectable that they won't even waste their time learning all their secrets. But flowers can't have any secrets, right?.... right?

Blast Cone
Escaping, Distrupting, Engaging
Usage: Right-click to knock everyone in range away

Blasting Cone allows you to jump over walls, escape your enemies or engage right into dragon pit with Smite, it's uses are however much greater. You can fire a basic attack while in the blast cone radius and before the attack hits the flower you can just use Flash into the middle of the flower or out of the ring - this way you launch away everyone except yourself. If your Flash is on cooldown, don't worry, you can still position yourself right on top of the flower with regular movement commands. This might be really hard to do because right click executes attack command before movement command but with right usage of H (=this key stops your player from moving) you can still do this. You can also cleanse the Blast cone with Quicksilver Sash. This way you won't stop the knockback but you unlock your summoner spells items and abilities during the knockback - meaning that you can cast Smite, Wish or Starcall while flying. This way you can unlock Flash and possibly redirect the knockback to an unpredictable place. You can also use Blast cone as a way to proc Last Breath or Ravenous Flock of your allies. Blast Cone can also give you an assist for an enemy kill.

Honeyfruit
Sustaining, Distrupting, Surviving
Usage: Right-click to create fruit pieces nearby that restore health and mana

Honeyfruits allow you to sustain yourself throughout the game. Honeyfruit tasty pieces apply slow when eaten, this can be particularly useful as a disruption tool to outrun your opponent. If there is rift scuttler nearby, she immediately dashes to the closest fruit and starts eating it. You can use her as a creep block for your opponent to even more disrupt it's movement. Once rift scuttler starts eating the fruit piece, you have exactly 10 seconds to stop her by few basic attacks that will scare her away. If you won't stop her in time, the fruit piece gets lost. Also keep in mind that slow resist runes/items grant you important advantage as it greatly reduces the effectiveness of slow effect.

Scryer's Bloom
Vision Expanding, Ward Destroying, Tracking
Usage: Right-click to reveal an area in front of you

Scryer's Blooms are usually used to reveal some part of the map but usually without second thought. It is important to position yourself right around the flower so you will be able to see as many objectives as possible. It is ALWAYS possible to reveal 2 jungle camps. Sure it is much easier on blue quarters of the map then the red ones where getting those raptors as well as red brambleback require really really good positioning but it is possible. You can also use it on ward lucrative places in order to deny a lot of vision. Works well with Oracle Lens or allies that require good vision like Caitlyn, Xerath or Jhin to land their spells.

Another great and unknown tip about Jungle flowers is that when they are used they leave a peals on the ground for 30 seconds before completely disappearing. This way, If you see a petal on the ground on place where jungle plant is usually located, you can guess that someone (most likely enemy jungler visited that place in last 30 seconds and assess If you are in danger or not.
Early Game

When the game starts you want to start with red brambleback. I see a lot of players starting blue sentinel but it really isn't a good choice - you don't need mana regen at all and you don't need 10% CDR either. I also recommend you asking for leash, meaning that ADC and support from botlane will help you take the red brambleback to low health and then they will just come back to lane. If they didn't come to help you, don't worry, you still should be able to take it down with Smite (If botlane did actually helped you - don't waste Smite just yet).

After red brambleback go and take raptors. This is the easiest camp for you to contest. Thanks to Hunter's Talisman you heal back almost all the damage you take and If you will position yourself properly, you can even leave the camp with more health then you entered it. Do not waste your auto attacks on the smaller ones, use them only on the crimson raptor. Always make sure that your Starcall hits EVERY single one of them. Don't use your Smite here just yet unless it would be a difference between life and death (which it shouldn't be...).

Now try to take down ancient krug. This camp is by far the hardest one for you to deal with. They deal a lot of damage and are super hard to kill. Focus your auto attack on the bigger one but try to hit both of them with Starcalls. By all means - KEEP YOUR DISTANCE. Fleet Footwork movement speed should help you with that. Also try to position yourself so the smaller krug gets blocked by the larger one. It takes a lot time to practise but it is possible to reduce their damage significantly this way. Definitely use your Smite here on the biggest one. Just don't do it right away so you can actually get healed as well.

Now I would recommend you to recall and buy your first items. Don't expect any large purchases, just Hunter's Machete and some Rejuvenation Beads. Wait for the fountain to heal you and then head towards blue jungle.

If the enemy jungler destroyed your whole blue side of the jungle (which he should If he is good), don't worry, try to help other lanes starting usually from top, down to mid and bot. You don't need to setup some insane ganks (you probably can't do it anyway) but you can still land some Astral Infusions on your teammates to help them in lane. Once you get to the bottom lane, your red jungle side should be once again full of sweet jungle meat.

If the enemy jungler, however didn't ruin your blue camps, then you are free to farm. Start up with blue sentinel. In this camp, positioning is everything. Dance around him and don't let him come any close. Use your movement speed advantage that Starcall and Fleet Footwork represent to just outrun him. You don't need to use Smite here If you have it. At the end you shouldn't take more then 3 hits from his attacks.

Another camp you should be focusing on now is the gromp. This camp is really hard to outrun or outsmart in general. At the first few hits it may seem that gromp is doing insane damage and it is exactly like that. However after a while you can easily notice that his attack damage and attack speed rapidly decays, so don't get scared too easily by his damage. It is just how the monster itself works. At this camp I recommend you using your Smite as your damage is really inefficient in this camp and it would take like thousand years for you to actually kill it without Smite. Just again, wait a while before using it so you get the maximum value out of Smite healing.

Then you can decide If you want to go rift scuttler or giant wolf camp. rift scuttler is a bit riskier choice as the enemy jungler can easily engage on you and possibly kill you as well, but If you did manage to actually kill it you get a lot of value from it in terms of a vision field, lot of gold and healing. wolf camp is an option If you don't want to tisk anything or If rift scuttler is already dead.

When fighting rift scuttler, there is not much to be said. Just try to destroy her as quick as possible using auto attacks and Starcalls. You can try to bait her on Honeyfruit which would make her finally move in a predictable way (towards the sweet fruit) and stop randomly dashing which can actually make your Starcalls harder to hit. Don't use Smite here at any cost.

Last Camp you should clear is giant wolf. Again, there is not much to talk about. Just focus your auto attacks on the biggest one and use Starcalls so you hit all 3 of them. Don't use Smite here, it really is not neccessary.

From now on continue in farming monsters and try to scale up. When it comes to ganking, there really is not much you can do other then giving allies some light helping hand with Astral Infusions. Don't fear wasting too much health, you will restore it soon anyway. When "ganking", make sure you won't die by overextending for trades with Starcall. Your laners would be very unhappy and it would make their game much harder. Try to stay alive and avoid riskier plays.
Mid Game

Once you already got to some reasonable purchases like Enchantment: Bloodrazor and maybe even a little bit more, you should finally have enough game presence to contest for some jungle objectives. Most notably elemental drakes and rift herald. Keep in mind that those objectives can be super deadly and so you for sure need a help of your team.

A super important thing about clearing big objectives is vision. When enemy jungler is able to see the amount of health the dragon or your teammates, he can very easily attempt to kill the dragon, you or often times even both. For this reason it is recommended to always have a Control Ward or Sweeping Lens in your inventory for those cases. Your support should have few but you can't really rely on that every time.

Make sure that the Control Ward is placed so that all possible edges of the pit are in the anti-vision range of the ward. You don't have to destroy Stealth Wards you find this way - their vision range is denied and focusing too much on them could cost you a drake. After all, If you clear the dragon, another one spawns after 5 minutes, making all Stealth Wards useless anyway.

You can also leash the dragon out of the pit. This is especially useful If you don't have a Control Ward to place in the dragon pit or you are on a red side of the map (the upper right side of the map). By dragging the drake away from dragon pit, you can render all enemy team's Stealth Wards useless as they are probably placed in the dragon pit and not outside of it - or enemy jungler can't just Flash/Blast Cone + Smite the drake as the drake will be too far away from them.

Make sure you are also keeping the vision up for all posibly bigger objectives. If you will be able to see what's going on in the jungle - you will be able to respond quicker to what's going on.

ALWAYS Keep an eye on your allies' health bars once get your Wish. You can safe lifes easily with this ability as well as turn fights around. Just make sure you time it perfectly so the healing can be properly enhanced on low health targets. You can also try the Time Warp technique to make your Wish much more efficient.

Continue with smaller ganks here and there. Procing Equinox root is crucial for successful gank. You can hit Starcall, Blade of the Ruined King or Chilling Smite first in order to make Equinox proc easier or you can combine it with your ally's CC.

Make sure you also continue farming jungle camps. Having good CS allows you to keep up with other players and not fall down in damage in compare to other players.

For rift heralds, there is not much to be said other then that you should keep vision on them, kill them only with a help of your allies and attack him from the back to deal with him quicker. When summoning rift herald, make sure you're doing it pre-14th minute If possible. As this would allow you to get a lot of gold and tempo from turret plates. You can also purposely leave the summoned rift herald in order to give all that gold to one player rather then splitting between you and him. This is especially effective If that player plays a really snowballing champion like Katarina or champion with insane scaling like Jinx.
Late Game & Teamfighting

As you're approaching to the very end of the game and your build is slowly completing, it is important to take down the super objectives AKA Dragon soul, Elder dragon and baron nashor. Controlling vision and winning teamfights is key in order to take those objectives down safely.

During teamfights, consider yourself an ADC. You are super squishy and easy to kill but you are also capable of doing massive damage. For this reason it is recommended to play safe during teamfights. Sit back in the backline and wait for the right situation to follow up on. Dodge skillshots and be prepared to be focused down. Calculate possible threats like Unstoppable Force, Cataclysm or Lunar Rush and make sure you play around them.

During teamfights make sure you are focusing the right champions. Yes your anti-HP items ( Blade of the Ruined King & Enchantment: Bloodrazor) allow you to deal massive damage to tanks but focusing their main carry of the team, is much better as you will annihilate a much bigger threat and get a lot more gold. Keep an eye out on Thornmail users or champions that punish you for bad target focusing like Rammus. Ignore those as much as you can.

It is important to know that unlike with regular Soraka builds, this build is focused on damage from your auto attacks. That doesn't mean though that your spells are totally useless all of a sudden. Equinox for example works like a super good tool to disable casters and spell based champions like Ryze, Aatrox, Zed or Riven. Starcall is great for keeping a distance between you and your enemies and Astral Infusion (even though risky) is still a super strong tool to use on your carries when rejuvenated. Just keep in mind that your playstyle is no longer - poke, heal & run - but - sit back, lock carries down & play safe.

If you would get into a teamfight around important jungle objective, make sure you follow all things I said before. That is: 1) Using Control Ward to deny nearby Stealth Wards, 2) Leashing If you are on the red side and If the objective is dragon 3) Keeping vision of your own in nearby area and 4) Destroying Blast Cone that enemy jungler could use to get to you (especially If you are red side). Don't put too high priority on the objective, If possible it is usually better to focus on the teamfight first rather then killing baron nashor while enemies are killing you.

Make sure you are putting the highest possible priority to Dragon souls (especially for an Ocean one) - both denying or establishing your own dragon soul is super game changing. Then the second highest priority goes for elder drake and baron nashor - both are super similar in effectiveness as it can vary from game to game. Lowest priority goes to Inhibitors and destroying turrets. Those really shouldn't be focused most of the times.
