Sion in my opinion is one of the most powerful buff based champions. the reason i think this, is because at beginning game he can have one of the most potent AD at the begining of the game. with the right runes and a Doran's Blade at the begining of the game he can reach up to 110 AD straight up at the begining of the game, but he is quite vulnrable to damage him self. building him AP is probably were he is most dangerous, with his stun and sheild AOE combo, he can easily cut a champion down to half health in a matter of 3 - 4 seconds, maybe even faster.
The best runes to get for him, assuming you are playing him AD, would be 3 Quints of AD, playing him AD you want a lot of damage straight up at the beginning of the game. as you probably will notice, when you build Sion AD, he tends to be quite squishy, so 9 seals of armor should help against being punished to harshly. To boost his attack damage even further, you will want Marks of AD, these will increase his damage potential
Runes
the things that are worse than heavy AD early game, are Ranged AP damage-rs. so you will want glyphs of magic resist, these should hopefully give you a bit of protection from AP damage-rs.
for AP, i had to swap around the runes for a while, because marks didn't give out as much ability power as glyphs did.
Runes
But i recommend that you stick with runes that you are comfortable.
Masteries are almost my favorite part of making builds on mobafire.
So lets begin with AD My I usually use my runes to give my self some bonus armor against heavy damage-rs early game, so ill have all the armor and health masteries on with a bit of AD on the side. or vice-verses for AP. My masteries go 20/10/0( honestly its all about how confident your feeling in the early game phase.) and Ability power would look something like this:
this concludes masteries.
My favourite part.
There are several ways you can start with Sion.
His natural ability to deal out lots of damage early game is quite handy, you can start the early game and be a dangerous damager with a Doran's Blade which is quite good at giving you a head start in the damaging area, but will leave you almost completely vulnerable against attack damage your self. You can also start with Boots and a mixture of Health Potion and Mana Potionor even Long Sword and Health Potion Mana Potion. to start AP sion, you would probably want something like a Doran's Ring or Amplifying Tome with a Mana Potion or Health Potion.

Almost all boots work with sion, you would want Sorcerer's Shoes playing AP or Hybrid Jungle
Berserker's Greaves for building AD. (gives you some early attack speed)
Ionian Boots of Lucidity are gonna let you use your spells more often during the early and mid game phases.
Boots of Swiftness and Mobility Boots arn't going to be much use to Sion seeing as they only increase his already average running speed, these boots will only enhance his chasing capabilites. (but seeing as you will most likely already have your Cryptic Gaze, Flash and Ignite you wont have much of a use for these boots.)
Middle Game
Now that we have gone through the potential starting items, we want to work on our middle game build. his naturally high damage is very good and makes choosing his first item easy. there are a three attack speed items which work well on sion, there is Phantom Dancer. and Blade of the Ruined King.
Phantom dancer is going to be a logical choice, seeing as your probably going to have a sizable amount of attack damage due yo your Enrage. so your mid game should look a little something like these.
-
1:
Item Sequence
Phantom Dancer
2800

Blade of the Ruined King

So my main tip for sions first item entering the mid game phase, should be attack speed, his natural attack damage should out do most champions untill they reach the mid game phase them selfs. Even tho ravenous hydra is pretty much a key item for Sion, his attack speed is also key to playing him.
The third item on sion, should set you up for what you will be versing late game, that could be anything from heavy AP Damage-r, or Heavy AD damage-r, Tank, Jungle. there are always these thing that you need to consider when choosing your items. SO, there are four choices for your third item, 1st, is the Ravenous Hydra this is gonna give you lots of extra AOE(Area Of Effect) damage, it also will let you heal your allies in melee fights. 2nd, is a Frozen Mallet this is going to help you secure kills effectively, it will also increase your health substantially allowing you to take more punishment and give you some extra time to deal your own punishment, and it gives you a small amount of attack damage, which is going to help your ultimate quite nicely. 3rd, is the Infiniy Edge this is going to give you alot of attack damage, and also give you a good hefty crit chance. and 4th is Mercurial Scimitar some people might not like this item very much, but in my opinion it works very well at countering AP champions, its also going to give you some handy chase as well. So, this is a summary of your 3rd item.

Late game items can be quite trickey, because all enemy champions are now a large if not serious threat, ussually you will want to choose your last item so it will counter one of the enemy teams more powerful champions, but you will wind up having the same chance of choosing items to counter more than one enemy champion. So lets narrow down your your search and choices:

Reasoning to end item alternatives
-
1:
Phantom Dancer
this item as an end game alternative will give you extra critical chance, and make you attack way faster, this will intensly increase your ultimates sustaining ability, this will result in staying alive longer, killing enemy champions faster, and making you hard to shut down.2:
Mercurial Scimitar
this item will give you a good amount of damage and magic resist, resulting in countering AP champions more effectivly.(i wouldn't recommend getting anouther if you already have one)3:
Bloodthirster
this will give you some really handy attack damage and some basic life steal, this will result in keeping you alive during the cool down of your ultimate ability, added on to the life steal that the Ravenous Hydra gives you, and the amount of attack damage you have, it will definetly keep you alive.4:
Warmog's Armor
is going to give you a very large amount of health, resulting in being able to accept alot more punishment, and make your Cannibalism alot more annoying, by refilling you large amount of health. (item works best with Frozen Mallet.)5:
Sunfire Aegis
this item is going to give you some bonus armor which will make you just that little bit harder to kill, and give you some bonus health, which is going to allow you to be punished just that little bit more.6:
Guardian Angel
this is probably one of the most annoying end game items. Giving you a very sizeable amount of Magic Resist and Armor is just the start, with is added on passive that allows you to spring back to life, it probably is one of the more useful end game alternatives.(this item works best if you dont use your Cannibalism before dying, because when you come alive you can activate it afterwards.)7: Blade of the Ruined King this is going to give you a little bit of Attack Damage and a whole lot of attack speed, increasing the effectivness of your Cannibalism.( I recommend this if your not using critcal chance.)
8: Infinity Edge even tho this items passive doesnt stack, its damage and critical chance helps bolster you already dangerous Attack Damage and Critical Chance.(not recommended for players new to Sion.)
9: Frozen Mallet this item will give you some good bonus health and some AD, it also slows enemy champions and minions on basic attack, helps secure kills.( DONT GET TWO.)
AP
-
1:
2: Twin Shadows will reverse around any AP damage and give you a handy slow, it helps secure ganks and also gives you some MR.
3: Abyssal Mask this is a very usefull item on Sion it gives him alot of AP and alot and a sizeable amount of Magic Resist, it also decreases the magic resist around him, making Sunfire Aegis alot more useful and making his Deaths Carress and Cryptic Gaze very dangerous.
4: Void Staff this is going to give you straight foward AP and give you 35% Magic Penetration, it will make your truck loads of AP alot more useful.
5: Rabadon's Deathcap this will give you a **** tonne of AP and give you 30% of the ability power that you have.
6: Deathfire Grasp it a nice juicy 120 AP and some Cooldown reduction that will help you dish out the spell damage alot faster. Also its passive will deal out alot of straight up damage, and also make the damage that you deal after the active alot more effective by amplifying it by 20%.
For AP sion he is best when hes built AP tank.
to start you will want a Amplifying Tome and a Mana Potion.
For boots you will want Sorcerer's Shoes these will give you magic penetration, which will give you a better edge with your spells early game.
the Amplifying Tome is gonna make your stun and sheild incredibly dangerous early game. and the Mana Potion is gonna help feed your mana hungry skills.
your middle game you will want a Rylai's Crystal Scepter, this will give you a substantial amount of AP and a good sized amount of health, this will make your stun and sheild incredibly powerful and help you sustain lanes longer.
next item you will want a Zhonya's Hourglass this will give you a good amount of armor so it takes longer for people to cut your health down. and give you anouther good sized portion of AP.
After that, you will want a couple of Nashor's Tooth these things will make your ultimate ability alot more useful and give you a really good amount of AP. the reason you still want to build Attack speed, is because Sions Enrage still gives him quite alot of AD. so that means you ultimate isn't completely useless. so mixed with a bit of attack speed, even tho it isn't massive is still very useful.
Your last item, will be a Iceborn Guantlet, it will make it alot easier to sustain lanes, because your health won't go down as quickly and as soon as you use your stun and you hit people after wards, it will slow them so you can keep hitting them as there running away. it will also give you a good amount of cooldown reduction, added up with the 2 Nashor's Tooth you will be able to use your stun alot more frequently.
This is one of the more
You will want to get your skills depeding on what you are building, Attack Damage, or Ability Power. lets start with attack damage. you will want to start with your Enrage this will give you a good Attack Damage boost at the beginning of the game, and this helps you because you won't have to worry about building attack damage items till later on in the
game.
after you have gotten Enrage you will want to get your Cryptic Gaze, and then your Death's Caress. after that, you will want to max out your Enrage this will keep your attack damage up so again, you don't have to worry about building attack damage items, you can focus straight on attack speed. after that you can max out your Cryptic Gaze or your Death's Caress, which either one your comfortable with.(i would suggest maxing your stun because it stuns and deals damage straight up, were as you have to time your sheild right to deal damage with it). you will want to upgrade your ultimate everytime you can.
For AP you will want to start with your Cryptic Gaze, and then upgrade the others once, after that max out your Cryptic Gaze, then after that max out your Death's Caress. then your Enrage.Update is unfinished from here on out
Use your sheild before your stun.(this will take up time for your sheild to activate its AOE and stop enemy from dealing you to much damage)

always have your

There are a few summoner spells that work well with sion. I use a standard Flash Ignite combo.
but you can use anything that suits you. The reason i use flash is because when i flash, if i have my Cryptic Gaze i can stun and take a kill, or you can Flash then Ignite letting them run away and die letting you conecntrate on other things.
Exhaust Ghost is gonna make sions chase alot more effective.
Heal is only gonna be useful to you under level 6, other than that you will have no use for it.
Tips
The main thing with securing kills early game with sion, is getting to lane fast. this will ensure you have secured bush and will have the upper hand at the start.
When level 2 with sion. you have to get your stun, else you will find it difficult to secure kills.
a very tricky thing to do with sion, is to stun under tower, a very useful way of killing people.
Sions ultimate gives him incredible sustain, this lets you tank out most damage and transform a terrible situation into a great one.
Sions built to go head first against 1 enemy, you will want to be very careful untill you are powerful or a higher level.
Sions basic attack damage will make building damage items first useless. you should alwasy start with attack speed. ussually somthing like Phantom Dancer.
Late game, you shouldn't try to start team fights, because your ultimate will keep your team alive. let the ADC (Attack Damage Carry) do their job.
End[/h1}
Sions natural Damage in full AD, will allow you to build attack speed first.
After you have gotten your Ravenous Hydra farming is gonna become alot less tedious.
The reason i haven't written anything about jungle, is because im not a very competant jungler i need to practice my jungle alot more.
I will talk about tank, if requested in comments.
Also contructive criticism would be appreciated thanks :).
