As this is my first guide i would appreciate ANY criticism aswell as ideas on how to improve the guide or if you have any questions, just feel free to write a comment i will try and answer as many as possible. Pros / Cons

Pros

+ Extremely fun to play!
+ Can build pretty much any item.
+ Very slippery, can easily escape.
+ Who needs ?
+ Good at tilting the enemy team.
+ One shots!
+ One of the best counter junglers
+ Godlike split pusher

Shaco has changed a lot over the seasons, and while he hasn't always been the best Assassin , he was always an extremely fun and versatile champion. His kit was always designed for tilting the enemy team and popping out when they least expected it.
Cons

- Hard to play and hard to master.
- Gets punished HARD for any mistakes.
- MUST have good map awareness to use his full potential
- Has a lot of trouble with some revealing champs
- Pretty weak dmg in early ganks compared to some junglers

While he is highly rewarding for everything done well with him, a single mistake punishes you VERY HARD. It is very important to stay focused when playing him so you don't throw leads away. You have to master his kit so you can use his full potential, but when you do you will feel very comfortable in anything you do with him.

Runes

Here i will elaborate on some rune choices that i think are viable. I won't talk about some i don't think are that good on Shaco, although he has a lot of very good choices.Keep in mind that Shaco is a very versatile champion, and if you don't agree with some of my choices feel free to use your own set up's.

Electrocute is currently the BEST OPTION on Shaco in my oppinion. It gives you a lot of early pressence aswell as a neat burst to your combo that is usually unexpected. It also scales fine to mid/late game. Not much to say, other than this is my favorite option.

Dark Harvest is also a very good option for Shaco, and it gives you A TON of dmg late game. I recommend running this with my recommended build for it when you have a feeling the game will last long. One thing to keep in mind with this is that you lose the early Electrocute dmg you would usually have, but you make up for it in the mid/late game.

Press the Attack Is a fun option for Shaco. I find it does a nice amount of dmg and paired up with the runes i made, it also scales very well into the late game. He can duel a lot with this setup aswell as split push. It might not be the best option, but it works very well on Shaco.

Conqueror Another fun option for Shaco. A nice amount of dmg, same setup as the press the attack build, except you take Conqueror if you need the extra true dmg against tanks. Gives you great duel potential aswell as split pushing power.

Predator While it seems like a very good rune for Shaco, i have had a hard time actually making it work that well in multiple games, you can win games with it just not as reliably as with other choices. The speed and dmg it gives are very good, but the fact that your enemies know that you are coming really doesn't help making it good. And being forced to use your runes to lower it's CD to something reasonable, isn't helping either.

Lesser rune choices:

RAVENOUS HUNTER

✦ Ravenous Hunter
Gives us some nice sustain, but is not as good as some of the other options like Relentless Hunter that gives us a lot of roaming potential. Works on some builds but not all of them.

Ingenious hunter

✦ Ingenious Hunter
A good option if we have a lot of active items. I recommend running it with an AP build as we usually get a couple of active AP items. It's fine on AD builds aswell but only if you are building items like Zz'Rot Portal, Blade of the Ruined King, Titanic Hydra etc...

Ultimate Hunter

✦ Ultimate Hunter
In my oppinion, a very bad option for Shaco. Our ultimate is already fairly low on cooldown, and getting it over some of the other options isn't really that good. Especially since we use our ultimate mostly for escapes. Relentless Hunter Would probably be better.

Relentless Hunter

✦ Relentless Hunter
A very good option for Shaco, aswell as any other roaming type jungler or Assassin . It helps us establish a lot more pressence around the map, and paired up with Mobility Boots it's a really neat movement speed buff.

Cheap Shot

✦ Cheap Shot
Very good on AP Shaco, if somebody runs into your box you can Deceive and engage on them, dealing a ton of damage or just having them walk into multiple boxes and pretty much just die. I don't recommend it on AD Shaco as Sudden Impact is better.

Sudden Impact

✦ Sudden Impact
Probably the best out of the 3 choices, unless you are going to play AP Shaco where Cheap Shot is better for playing around boxes. We can proc it whenever our Deceive is up, making it very effective, especially if we are going for a one shot build.

Taste of Blood

✦ Taste of Blood
Gives Shaco nice sustain, i don't recommend taking it over Sudden Impact or Cheap Shot as both give us a lot more damage, and are overall more usefull.

Eyeball collection

✦ Eyeball Collection
This gives you the most reliable damage. I like it the most as you know exactly what you get. No active and no extra mechanics.

Ghost poro

✦ Ghost Poro
Good damage you get from it, but i think it's the worst out of the 3 options. Zombie Ward Gives you good vision and Eyeball Collection Gives you good damage.

Zombie Ward

✦ Zombie Ward
Between the 3 you have, i pretty much always take Eyeball Collection as it gives you very nice stats. I would have to say that Zombie Ward is probably better than Ghost Poro. I like it more simply for the vision it provides.

Presence of mind

â™  Presence of Mind
Pretty bad for in my opinion, it doesn't really give us anything we need as an Assassin like Shaco. Even if our ultimate was more important of an ability, the other options would still be better.

Overheal

â™  Overheal
Nothing wrong with it, it's just not something we need for Shaco. Triumph is a lot better since we aren't a marksman

Triumph

â™  Triumph
The best out of the 3 choices we have here. It's very good for escaping after picking up some kills/assists, or just staying in a fight longer. Nothing more to say.

Legend: Tenacity

â™  Legend: Tenacity
While it is good for what it gives, i think that we find a lot more use with Legend: Alacrity than we do with tenacity. As already mentioned alacrity saves us gold, and helps out a lot. Better than Legend: Bloodline but not the best.

Legend: Bloodline

â™  Legend: Bloodline
Not very efficient on Shaco. We don't really need the life steal, and it doesn't save us any gold by skipping an item like Legend: Alacrity does. Out of the three, probably the worst choice.

Legend: Alacrity

â™  Legend: Alacrity
The best choice for us out of the three. It's basically Berserker's Greaves in a rune. Having this pretty much lets us skip those boots and lets us pick Mobility Boots or Ninja Tabi depending on the situation, which is very gold efficient.

Coup De Grace

â™  Coup de Grace
In my opinion the best option out of the three. It helps you a lot with one shotting as it doesn't let enemies escape with low health. Good for picking off low targets with your E aswell.

Last Stand

â™  Last Stand
Can be a good option for Shaco, but you should be an Assassin , one shotting your opponents when you are full. It works, i just think that Coup de Grace is a lot better.

Cut Down

â™  Cut Down
Can be good for killing off tanks, but i don't find it as practical as using Coup de Grace. It just gives us the ability to one shot easier and helps our E pick of escaping kills.

Nullifying Orb

♣ Nullifying Orb
Good vs AP heavy teams. But i don't like running it as we focus on one shotting or just all around dealing high amounts of burst damage, and this uses up one of our runes that we could have used smarter.

Manaflow Band

♣ Manaflow Band
We really don't need this in the jungle. If it's for the mana, we can just build one of the jungle items and have it.

Nimbus Cloak

♣ Nimbus Cloak
I don't like it personally. It doesn't give us much that we need, and i don't see it really helping in any situations.

Transcendence

♣ Transcendence
It can be good for getting that extra CDR, but i like the other dmg options more.

Celerity

♣ Celerity
Can be good paired up with Mobility Boots and Youmuu's Ghostblade, as we will get a lot of AD from it. While it is very nice, i PERSONALLY like Absolute Focus more, but this works great aswell.

Absolute Focus

♣ Absolute Focus
Pretty good option, we will constantly have over 70% HP while looking to one shot, so the dmg it gives is very nice. I would say the best out of the 3 we have here.

Scorch

♣ Scorch
Good for early game fights. Helps out a lot for getting that extra dmg you might need to take down an enemy. I like using it over most of the other options, and mostly use it with Absolute Focus.

Waterwalking

♣ Waterwalking
A great pair with Celerity. Can help a lot with securing scuttle crabs and fighting in the river, also great roaming potential. I personally don't run it that much, but it doesn't make it a bad choice.

Gathering Storm

♣ Gathering Storm
Can be very good for grabbing that extra AD if you are sure you will be getting to late game. Although i don't really run it unless i go AP Shaco, as i close out most of my games pre 30mins with early game oriented builds.

Demolish

♢ Demolish
Very good for split pushing. I personally think it's the best option out of the 3 we have here. Very good in combination with Overgrowth as we can deal huge amounts of dmg late game, also must pair with Zz'Rot Portal.

Font of Life

♢ Font of Life
I don't think we need this at all of an Assassin . We just don't need it AT ALL.

Bone Plating

♢ Bone Plating
Good for absorbing high amounts of burst damage. Run if you feel like you need it, but i personally preffer Demolish over all of the choices.

Items

THESE ARE ALL OF THE AD ITEMS I USE ON SHACO:

One of the best items on Shaco hands down. It gives us everything we need, wave clear, electrocute proc, early dmg. Nothing more to say.

Still one of the core items. Even after the recent nerfs, it's very good on Shaco. It gives us a MASSIVE dmg spike in the mid game.

Again, one of the core items for Shaco, it gives us a large DMG spike in the mid game, and with the sweet active mobility, it helps us hunt down the enemy carries a lot easier.

A nice safe option, a lot of the times better than picking up a Youmuu's Ghostblade as this gives us more stats which makes us less squishy and is safer all around. It's also pretty good at bursting through armor.

One of the essential items on Shaco. It gives us a large amount of AD from the B .F. Sword But it also gives us a fair amount of armor from Chain Vest, and i didn't even get to it's active, which is basically compensation for making a mistake, as using Deceive right after reviving denies your death to the enemy team.

A very good item to shread through any armor that the enemy team might have, and a direct counter to any squishies buying Ninja Tabi. You often want to build Lord Dominik's Regards or Mortal Reminder in case they have a lot of healing.

As already mentioned, getting either Lord Dominik's Regards or this is very good on Shaco as it is a direct counter to squishies getting armor items. Take one accordingly to the enemy team.

Pretty good if you want the extra life steal/AD it gives you. Titanic Hydra is completely fine aswell, but overall if you want to one shot, the Ravenous Hydra is the one to go.

As already mentioned, either Hydra item is fine, and i leave the choice to you. Pick one depending on what you need more.

A very good item on Shaco, the tenacity aswell as the shield it gives you helps out a lot if you need to tank some DMG, and it also gives a fair amount of AD.

Same as Sterak's Gage, a very good item to pick up if they are AP heavy, pretty much the same as Sterak's Gage only this gives you some extra Life Steal and AD.

Very good for sticking on to targets with it's active effect. Will give you more attack speed and life steal which means you can stay in fights longer, and makes split pushing faster.

An incredible item for split pushing. The Raptor Cloak movement speed is very good for Shaco as it helps you roam more aswell as push more.

Good to pick up if your going to split push a lot, or just need a tanky item. The movement speed it gives is very good for roaming, but overall Zz'Rot Portal is going to be better if you have to choose between them.

A good item if the enemy is AP heavy. Paring it up with Ravenous Hydra is good to get the most out of it's heal.

A huge counter to heavy AD comps. Nothing more to say.

A very strong tank item for Shaco, as it makes him even more annoying when he pops out in front of you and you can't kill him. Also very good stat's from Chain Vest and Negatron Cloak.

THESE ARE ALL OF THE AP ITEMS I USE ON SHACO

Your Two-Shiv Poison Huge amounts of DMG with this item if your going AP/hybrid. The burn effect is also very nice on enemy champions as it deals some incredible amounts of dmg. It also gives you very good sustain in the jungle.

Same with the Skirmisher's Sabre - Runic Echoes. Except this gives you the extra slow you might need to catch up to targets/escape. Pick one depending on what you need more.

Gives you very nice sustain, good dmg, hard to build against. The active is also very good for chasing down targets and getting more in your dmg output. A very good item for AP/hybrid Shaco all around.

The Trinity Force For AP Shaco. Works really well with his overall kit, aswell as his Backstab that does scale with AP. Helps you one shot, and gives you extra CDR that he really needs.

A very good deffensive cooldown for Shaco. It is the Guardian Angel Of AP Shaco, as it allows you to get out of sticky situations for free if you make a mistake. Other than that it's pretty good vs AD if you need that extra armor, and it gives 10% CDR which is really nice.

Very good for full AP Shaco as it gives you nice wave clear if you decide to split push, but it's not good in the jungle vs camps. Other than that it really helps you proc Electrocute and it gives you very nice stats.

Heavy AP item for full AP Shaco. Gives you tons of DMG and has your boxes do your work for you. I don't recommend getting it 3-4 item unless you are really hard snowballing, it's usually fine as 5th though.

Very strong item on Shaco, helps you out with bursting a lot, especially when you stack it. You can pretty much one shot enemy squishies with it and Lich Bane Alone.

A good item to pick up if the enemy is going heavy into magic resist. Also gives you some tanky stats which is always nice to have.

Just a heavy penetration item if the enemy goes hard on magic resist. Same as liandry's although this one is more DMG heavy.

Good if you need griveous wounds to counter heavy healing. Has nice stats and good magic penetration from Oblivion Orb.

These are all of the items i run on AP Shaco.

Spells

Shaco's skill set seems very simple at first glance, and it is. It's very easy to understand what every ability does, aswell as knowing the range and damage of each one. But what is really important with his abilities is knowing WHEN and HOW to use them, which shows us the difference between a good Shaco, and a bad one.

This is Shaco's bread and butter. It's very important to know how to properly use Backstab as it maximizes Shaco's damage output. It's also very important to move around jungle camps procing it multiple times, this makes our clear A LOT easier. It's also very good in combination with on-hit items, like Lich Bane, Trinity Force, Duskblade of Draktharr, and Infinity Edge which we can proc without having any critical strike chance items. Backstab's damage is counted as a crit and it scales with our AP, which is what helps AP Shaco a lot.

The ability that makes Shaco So slippery and hard to catch. The free Flash ability we get after putting our first point into it level 2. Deceive allows us to run ignite rather than using Flash, so i find it to be a gift riot left to us Shaco players. After using it, our next auto attack while in Deceive or 0.25s after exiting it we will deal bonus physical damage, scaling with our AP and AD, we also get a neat 2.5s cooldown decrease on Deceive, which helps us escape after an engage. Keep one important thing in mind and that is: Enemies see the red pop of smoke even if we are in fog of war,so make sure your enemy isn't paying attention when engaging.

Probably Shaco's signature ability. A great ability for us, it helps with our clear as it can tank 2 hits from large buffs and around 3 hits from smaller camps. It's also a very good ganking ability, as it fears nearby targets 2s after placement. Later on in the game, it is mostly used for dodging certain abilities like Rocket Grab, Death Sentence, Charm, etc... We also use it for blocking off paths where we might escape, or enemies might wander into. After the rework, it gave us a very neat thing. Next to the normal AP scaling, it also lasts longer based on how much AP we have, making AP Shaco better.

Even tho it has very low damage at early stages of the game, it's a VERY important ability for Shaco. It's passive gives us a perma slow on the enemy, and the ability itself is great for finishing off targets or just making Electrocute easier to proc. Since it's very weak early, we want to get into maxing it as fast as possible, that is why we just take a couple of points early into our Q, and then max E (READ ABILITY MAXING ON BUILDS, IMPORTANT!). It also scales with bot AP and AD, but it deals physical damage. It also deals damage according to enemies missing health.

A very annoying ability to go up against. You basically just make a duplicate of yourself that will share effects of your on hit items Trinity Force, Duskblade of Draktharr, Lich Bane etc. The clone also does magic damage upon death, or by running out, in a circle around it. It also drops 3 small boxes in a triangle, that are weaker than your normal boxes. Shaco's ultimate is generally used in a couple of ways:
  1. Dodging enemy abilities with it's 0.5s invulnerability, like Requiem, Ace in the Hole, even Lux's full Q>E>R combo by ulting while rooted.
  2. Juking enemies with mind games.
  3. Helping you with one shotting enemy carries, most commonly by walking behind them with Deceive and ulting, giving you two Backstab's and any other on hit items you have.

Generally the weird way Shaco's abilities scale is what makes him very good, fun and hard to build against. Having a lot of mixed scalings is hard to build against as Shaco mains can switch item build completely and still perform as if he is building normally.
