Introduction

Hi, this is my first ever guide on Mobafire and it's about my best and favourite champion Volibear. I play him as a solo top laner, jungle and tanky-support bot lane. I will teach you everything I know about him!

P.S. Sorry for my grammar mistakes, English is not my mother (first) language.

History

I started to play LoL about november 2011. As I leveled up I started to wonder which champion should I main? Around december Volibear came up. At first he was looking like another bruiser like shyvana. I decided to buy him and see if I am good with him. My inspiration was wowcrendor, here is a link to his channel on YouTube.

My first games with him were really fun but sadly laggy due to server problems at the time. I remember getting fed and getting 4 warmogs and an atma's and just killing people with 4 fps. Anyways as I progressed and got to level 30 people were smarter and my build was not as efficent. So I tried A LOT of builds and guides, each unique and viable in its own way. I have played around 200+ games with volibear in ranked and I am currently gold medal ranked.

Volibear vs Solo & Bot lane

Here I will explain how Volibear goes on versus other champions he will usually lane against in alphabetic order

Solo top champions

- Rearly seen on solo lane and usually played as a AP there. It's hard to trade blows efficently against a good , simply because your harras combo ( -> -> ) is countered by her . At level 6 she will become a real pain for any lane, but she will be unable to fight you in a fair fight.

Lanes:

- Mid lane
- Top lane

Tips:

- Get an early if you are doing well or grab
- Dont try to harras her if her is off cooldown
- Get some magic resistance against her

- This guy is just ridiculous versus . He can sustain your 20ish second pokes with his , silence you with his knock you up if you go to near him with his and the most important part - He can deny your passive with his . You are going to have a hard time versus a good Cho'gath.

Lanes:

- Top lane
- Mid lane
- Jungle

Tips:

- Ask for a lane swap if you know you will be versus a good
- Dont try to harras him and save your abilities to last hit minions if needed
- Watch out for his - It can do 300~350 dmg on rank one

- HOLY ****. This champion is, if not the best counter. He deals both physical, magic and true damage, can outdamage your 20ish harras with his own, can counter you passive with . Your only chance is to wait for ganks and try to last hit with abilities.

Lanes:

- Top lane
- Jungle

Tips:

- Play extra safe and buy a lot of sustain
- Wait for ganks
- Get an early and summoner spell if you are going against him ( suggested by Hollowninja :) )

- With his recent nerfs he is so easy to counter with . If you chase him try to dodge his with your high movement speed from . Almost no way you can lose this lane.

Lanes:

- Top lane
- Jungle
- Mid lane
- Bot lane
- MUNDO GOES WHERE HE PLEASES!

Tips:

- Dodge his
- Pop if you are sure you can kill him, dont waste it, he can escape just on the edge thanks to his
- Stay behind minions

- You aren't going to have problems versus her if you buy some armor early. Dont try to fight her and just do your 20 second burst untill she is low enough for the kill. Remeber that a good will jump right back to you when you do your combo so get to your minions or tower ASAP.

Lanes:

- Top lane
- Jungle

Tips:

- Rush some armor
- Stay near your minions or tower
- Fight her 1 vs 1 only if you trust your instincts

- Quite annoying to lane against, but if you build an advantage early you will be K. He can remove your slow from so max if you are up against him.

Lanes:

- Top lane
- Jungle

Tips:

- Get some sustain and armor, you will need both quite a lot
- Build an early advantage
- Max over

- Well he will be either AD/crit focused if he is smart or a meatshield tank or a combination of both. Either way he is annoying to lane against, but his passive can be abused, just by hitting him every 5 seconds. You can kill him when you get lvl 6, but before level 6 he has a slightly bigger advantage.

Lanes:

- Top lane
- Jungle (rarely seen)

Tips:

- Dont try to fight him until you are level 6
- Be cautious when getting low on health
- DONT FACECHECK BUSHES

- You are more strong then her and she knows it. Try denying her autoatacks so that she doesn't heal up with Hitten Style. A good will hug her minions/tower and play passivly, so will you in that case.

Lanes:

- Top lane
- Jungle

Tips:

- Try to deny her farm, trough aggresion
- Dont dive her with minions near her, early on
- Dont stand near minions when she uses her ultimate

- A solid lane versus , he deals more damage the more base health you have thanks to and can lower your armor with by 3-8 early game. He can escape you rather easily so dont bother chasing him if he has the same or higher tier boots then you.

Lanes:

- Top lane
- Jungle
- Bot lane (support)

Tips:

- Dont let him auto atack you every 6 seconds.
- Dont dive him if you dont have flash
- Try to fling him if he is going to escape with &

- Nothing special, you can easily counter his if you auto atack minions to charge up . You counter him in pretty much every situation if you play your cards right.

Lanes:

- Top lane
- Jungle

Tips:

- Dont autoatack him while he is chraging
- Try to get out of the range of his
- Deny him early farm by harrasing

- Gaining more popularaty for solo lane nowadays. She is excelent versus , she has a range atack/farm, Heal + movement speed increase, slow, Bubble ultimate. Everything you will want versus , overall a very hard lane.

Lanes:

- Top lane
- Jungle
- Bot lane (either as support or ad)

Tips:

- Ask for a lane swap
- Hug your tower, there is next to nothing you can do except wait for ganks
- Dont bother atacking her with on, try to get closer to her instead

- When you both fight it will be quite the fun sight. Anyways he is very good versus Volibear, dont bother chasing him with his Lighting Rush & . Look for an opening and harras him with your combo.

Lanes:

- Top lane
- Mid lane
- Bot lane (as ad)

Tips:

- Stay behind minions and dodghe his
- Look for an opening to charge, when his abilities are on cooldown
- Try not to get in his CC chain

- Tough he is seen rearly on solo lane, he is quite good at it. He gots a good sustain with wriggles, range poke/farm and AoE slow as well as AoE nuke. Combined that with good mobility he is hard to chase and fight.

Lanes:

- Top lane
- Jungle

Tips:

- Do your combo ASAP and try not to get hit by his spell combo
- Look for potential minions which he can jump on
- Charge him with your full combo when he wastes 1 or 2 cooldowns

- This is quite the annoying solo top. His only problem is mana, which you can't manipulate sadly. You can however start with a regrowth and make him spam his spells and then fight him. Make sure to auto atack him every ~5 seconds so that his passive doesn't turn on.

Lanes:

- Top lane
- Mid lane
- Jungle
- Bot lane (as support)

- Hueueue, this is surely an annoying lane. He makes you cry whenever you last hit a minion and he you. If you try to do his combo he will just use Mace of Spides, and if you are still there to fight Creepling Death. His ultimate is a good way to burst trough your passive .

Lanes:

- Top lane
- Mid lane

Tips:

- Watch out for his
- Buy a lot of magic resistance
- He can burst trough your passive so be cautious when you are low on health

- This guy just wants to farm and farm. He doesnt give a **** about anything else. Be a pal and do so by doing your harras and auto-atacking him, when he is about to auto atack a minion. It's a bad idea to tower dive him and do so only if you are going to kill him fast.

Lanes:

- Top lane
- Jungle

Tips:

- Try to deny him farm, it's very important when fighting against a
- Stay out of his AoE, if he is going to fight you there, it reduces your armor
- Dont tower dive him if you aren't sure you can kill him fast

- An easy lane, just try and dodge his or make him pop it by going near him with . He isn't strong early game for solo top that's why he is play mainly as a jungler. He shines in team fights due to his high AoE, CC and disables.

Lanes:

- Top lane
- Jungle
- Bot lane (as support)

Tips:

- Dont do your combo when all of his abilities are not on cooldown
- Try to catch him off guard before a team fight occurs and kill him
- You can kill him with ease when you get

- She is mainly played as an AD solo top or bot in high elo and AP in lower. She can be preety much any lane and role she wants to be. Since she is mainly played AD she will be focused on pushing. There is almsot no way you can catch a with her ultimate. You are going to lose your tower unless your jungler doesn't get oracles and gank often.

Lanes:

- Top lane
- Mid lane
- Bot lane (as either ad or support)

Tips:

- Ask for ganks before she hits level 6
- Try to deny her getting your tower
- Possibly get if you are absolutely sure that the will push hard

- This guy is near imposible to catch. He has a slow, movement speed increase, heal and a heavy slow damaging AoE. Play passivle and cross your fingers he doesn't keep throwing snowballs at you.

Lanes:

- Top lane
- Mid lane
- Jungle
- Bot lane (as support)

Tips:

- Play passivly
- Fling him to interup his ultimate
- Try not to let him auto-atack minions

- He is as good as you are. You both excel fighting at low health and having a good harras. Try to dodge his by not standing near ally minions with low hp.

Lanes:

- Top lane
- Jungle

Tips:

- Dont stand near ally minions with low health
- If he is about to fling him into your minions and do your thing
- Dont bother using or for the CC element when he pops

- He is unique because you actually help him do his combo if you cahrge him. He has a good poke/farming ability and can zone you with ease. However you can fling and cancel his ultimate while he is casting it.

Lanes:

- Top lane
- Jungle
- Support

Tips:

- Dont do your combo on him or use it after he does
- Build armor
- Try to predict where he can use his ultimate, you can use if you have it, to assist that lane

- She is rarely played, but extremly potent versus . If you charge her to do your combo make sure you arent closer to her minions than her or near a wall. She deals more damage the more heatlh you have so you will have to consider that. She can turret dive you with ease and take next to no damage. She can also burst trough your passive.

Lanes:

- Top lane
- Jungle
- Bot lane (as support)

Tips:

- Be caughtious when playing against a . She can do an insane burst
- Dont stand near walls
- If she turret dives you with her ultimate, DONT stand near your turret, she will use it as a way to stun you

- I have always had probelms versus s on solo top. You can't make the most out of your combo, simply because he has a better damaging combo. The key to winning against him is to make him cocky enough to tower dive you, while you have or/and .

Lanes:

- Top lane
- Jungle

Tips:

- If you are able to build an early advantage, take the most out of it!
- Let him charge you, not the other way around.
- His ultimate acts as a Heal so be careful when diving him/going to be dived

- The fact that she is almost uncountarable, and on level 1 she can deal up to 300+ damage in 2-3 seconds makes you want to hug your minions, but even that is not a good idea, she can simply jump back and forth dealing crazy damage. She has an execution ability and is actually fightable 1 vs 1 lvl 6+. Be very careful early game.

Lanes:

- Top lane
- Jungle

Tips:

- It's hard to lane against her, try to caught her off guard when she has wasted her abilities.
- Try to flash out of her ultimate
- Buy some armor ASAP

- Very annoying lane. He does more damage the closer you are to him, and diving him when he is level 2 with a minion wave beside him is a suicide. Let him do his thing and push, while you wait for ganks and last hit.

Lanes:

- Top lane
- Mid lane

Tips:

- Be caughtious when fighting him in the open, he deals the full damage of his Elecrto-Harpoon
- He has amazing early level damage, consider that when fighting against him
- He is a pusher so ask for ganks

I actually find this guy pretty easy when fighting against him with . You deal more damage than him and you are tankier than him with your passive. Watch out for his taunt as you do your combo, move where he wont\'t aim his taunt at it has a very low range.

Lanes:

- Top lane
- Jungle
- Bot lane (as support)

Tips:

- Use your early game power to deny him farm
- Be careful of his taunt when you do your combo
- Buy magic resistance if you are having problems with him, also fling him when he channels his ultimate

He is quite strong on solo top, but easily countered if you watch out for his poison. It's a bad idea to harras him because he can simply throw you further back, possible to his minions and/or turret.

Lanes:

- Top lane
- Jungle

Tips:

- Don't
- chase
-

- one of your best counters in high elo. You will find your self either playing passivly and waiting for an opening when playing against him or earting his shrooms. AP is just another level of madness...

Lanes:

- Top lane
- Mid lane
- Bot lane (as an carry)

Tips:

- Look for an opening to charge him
- Try to predict where can he set up his shrooms
- Spam /t to intimidate him!

- You can't have probelms versus this guy. I sgguest you start with a & 5x versus him. The only thing that can go wrong is him critting you often. Otherwise he has lost this lane.

Lanes:

- Top lane
- Jungle

Tips:

- Remember that his slow only works when you aren't facing towards him
- You can execute him with your and make his ultimate worthless
- Get armor if he gets fed or has higher cs (farm)

- Same as , you will have a hard time when up against him. I cant think of anything that is an effective way of countering him except magic resistance and sustain.

Lanes:

- Top lane
- Mid lane

Tips:

- Don't rush your when he is about to use his
- Buy health and magic resistance
- Ask for ganks, he is quite the strong pusher

- The only way to efficently win this lane is - Let him do his combo (in your minion wave), and try to do yours, while trying to avode his. A funny lane which you will win most of the times if you play right.

Lanes:

- Top lane
- Jungle
- Bot lane (as support)

Tips:

- Let him do his combo in your minion wave, then do yours
- Save if you are going to fight him 1 vs 1
- Make him waste his ultimate

- A good is a decent counter to Volibear before level 6. At this stage of the game, he is like just wait for ganks and make him push.

Lanes:

- Top lane
- Jungle

Tips:

- Dont fight him until you hit level 6 and get your ultimate
- Make him push trough harrasing him with your combo
- Ask for ganks, he lacks an escape mechanism

- An easy lane, you have a better combo and higher damage than him if he builds tanky. The only problem is if you mess around with his clone and pop your abilities on him.

Lanes:

- Top lane
- Jungle

Tips:

- He is a master juker, think a step ahead
- Bear > Monkey
- Don't get too cocky

- Don't do your combo and don't try to run away from him. He is a trollness in its true form.

Lanes:

- Top lane
- Jungle

Tips:

- Dont do your combo, EVER
- Ask for ganks he is a strong pusher
- Run away from his minions, dont fight them, you can also fear them as well as his ultimate

Thats all about the most popular solo laners. Sorry if I missed soemone/something you can post it in the coments if you feel like it :)

Bot lane setups

Since there are A LOT of bot lane combos, including bruiser combos I will just say that in a normal match you will excel at lanes with no escape mechanics or CC. Any lane with a slow like & will be excelent versus Volibear support. You are best of with someone who has a high burst so that you can do your thing. Just dont kill steal your carry, you dont need the kills over them. Go with support Volibear only if you are feedling lucky or know who you are up against

Masteries

Use this on solo top Volibear:

- For the extra 5 ad and 5 ap when off cooldown, really helps when last hitting and improving damage.

- Better last hitting and trading blows.

- Attack speed benefits greatly for your stacking on frenzy and ultimate.

- Good for trading blows and last hiting early game.

- You will need this because most of the top laners deal physical damage, minions do physical damage and AD carries deal physical damage.

- Makes you more beefy throughout the game and gives you more power to your passive and frenzy.

- Most of the time you will end up being attacked by enemy minions. On top of that it helps you tank major buffs for your team!

- Gives you extra sustain.

- Great for minions and damage reduction. Works really good vs a team that spams spells.

- More tankyness!

- Amazing movement speed increase. Might save your life when being invaded or might insure a kill when invading.

- Gives you extra cdr, which comes in handy since you have long 7-18 second cooldowns on basic abilities.

- More tankyness + tenacity. A really useful mastery.

This is used on jungle Volibear:

- A good synergy with your "W" to clear out jungle camps faster.

- Faster jungle speed.

This is used on support Volibear:

- If you are getting focused or simply the game goes on too long, this mastery is very useful.

- I take this to compisate for not taking in the Defense tree and simply because I don't need more mana, mana regen, recalling faster or biger ward radius.

- Since you shouldn't try geting last hits or champion kills and you want to have a good item arsenal, this mastery is A MUST for every suport out there.

- I get this to get a Sight ward and a .

Runes

Runes

Precision
Fleet Footwork
Phase Rush
Explanation:

- AD works very good with your passive on Frenzy and also adds up to your high attack speed late game.

- Armor is very important on every tank, jungler, AD carry, Support, heck it's even getting popular for mid.

- With these babies you will dominate most ap laners or atleast you wont get outshined easily. Volibear is bad vs someone like vlad or morde.

-Extra speed is always good on Volibear it will help you keep close to your targets when chasing them and giving you a better speed when running away.

Aditional runes

- The attack speed is a good alternative for armor penetration. But in later stages of the game you will have enough attack speed and armor penetration.

- The ~50 hp extra hp will make you more intimidating as well as boosting your early game power. Get this if you want to have some fun, but you will lack armor.

- Very good runes, later they will pay off making you more durable for magic damage. But I like that flat ones, because volibear gets dominated by most ap in early stages of the game.

- Same as the attack speed marks, you simply dont need atack speed trough runes or masteries for this build on Volibear, but give it a go if you feel like it.

Explanations:

-I chose to get at level 1 if I am going vs a normal lane and not invading/being invaded, I get it first for jungling because of the faster jungle speed.

-I max over , because I find the slow more usefull.

-SAVE YOUR FIRST POINT! It's a trick used by pro players - saving their first point untill laning phase has begun. Get if you are invading or caught off guard.

- comes off of cooldown while Volibear is under 30% health, it will not trigger unless Volibear takes damage.

Skill usage and further tips and tricks

For solo top

Explanation for skill usage:

- Volibear has pretty straight forward combos easily learned. The basic is -> / . It isn't a good idea to pop this combo on a champion who can either slow you, stun you or do more damage then you. You should do this combo at level 3-5, level 5 is recomended. Use when the enemy is retreating or chasing you during a trade, don't rush it. Finally for - use it when the enemy is retreating to do as much damage as possible.

- Your ultimate can give you the punch you need to finish off enemy champions and do the final blow trough an enemy minion wave since it targets champions over minions. It can also jump trough walls, so if a for example is dashing over a wall with low hp you can hit the jungle minion to finish him off. To get the most out of it you can use it on an enemy minion wave to either push the lane fast or minimize the damage you take when fighting a champion near them, the same usage aplies to , use it when fighting in/with enemy minions who are targeting you.

- You can combine with your basic combo to do serious damage to a silly enemy who is pushing too far to your turret. You can also combine this with a champion who has strong disables - , - for maximum usage of . If the enemy flashes out and takes no damage, don't worry! Almost no one can outrun and if your jungler is around you can tell him that the enemy has no and go in for an easy kill.

For jungling

Here I will cover how to maximize your damage when jungling and other helpful things:

- Starting out, use on Blue buff/wolfes when they are at about 20% hp

- Use just in the split second after you atack a camp, thus giving you 0.5ish second bonus to your fear on .

- Use on a minion just right after you atack. This is not recomended but it does boost your jungle speed.

- Always think a step ahead. Look at the map, watch out for the enemy junglers and always have a plan B. You are a safe jungler and you will be hard to get caught but always be on your guard. Save cooldowns when enemies are missing and are likely going in your jungle.

- You can use to clear out a major minion camp/dragon/baron faster.

- Play a custom game with cloth armor and 5 hp pots to work this out and understand the basics.

For support

Explanation for skill usage:

- Enage enemies only when you are sure you won't get stuned/rooted/slowed or any other type of CC that can stop you in your track.

- Taking is a MUST for going bot lane. It can be used to do good engages and burst enemies as well as making them pop cooldowns. As I said, do your flash combo when you see an oportunity and when the jungler is ganking.

- Try to tank as much damage as possible by either sticking to your enemies and dealing ToD or protecting your carry. If the enemy jungler is ganking, try your best to keep him away from you and your carry. You should and can get behind him and fling him backs, giving both you and your carry a good lead.

- Work with your carry, not against him! I have seen Volibears use to fling people out of AoE, skillshots, etc. Most of the time people don't even care aboutg your and just aim skillshots as usual. Try to corodinate with them and use apropriatly

- It takes some time and practise but Volibear support is not as good in normal games, as he is in ranked simply because he is more likely to be aware of the enemy setup and pick someone else/other lane. I play him premade with my friends simply because I can talk with them and are trustworthy ^^

Items

x3- The best possible start for any lane, even good for jungling.

philosopher's stone- Get this item if you need sustain or get it if you are the support.

- Get this if you want to snowball early and build into a or simply if you are the support.

Get both philosopher's stone and heart of gold if the game is going past the 30 minute mark or if you are a support.

- Ideal if the enemy is focused on AP or/and CC.

- If the enemy is physical damage focused, these are excellent boots allowing for great ganks after red buff, because they are quite cheap.

- One of the best items for volibear you can possibly get! It can even be stacked if you want to do crazy damage with your "W" and boosting your passive, but I dont recomend stacking it.

- With the recent buff, this item is perfect for Volibear. Not to mention it has a cool passive.

- I find this items just amazing for champions who can boost their atack speed. I mean it gives you 50 magic resitance and 42 magic damage with each auto atack, which is almost as much as a B.F. sword! Not to mention that the atack speed boosts your auto-atacks, ionic spark, faster stacking on frenzy, better ultimate.

- At this point of the game you will deal hard damage and will get more focused because of that. The answer? This beast! It gives you 68 armor and 38 magic resistance and an extra life. Not to mention that your passive still works while you are dead!

- Even with the recent nurf, this item is still the best CC counter. Get it to get to your targets - AP and AD carries and just being a better initiator. This item provides many tactical options to your team as well to yourself.

- An awesome item for a support or a tank. I though only get it tough, if I am the support. Helps your team by a massive movement speed boost and some extra cooldown reduction benefeting your laning phase greatly when paired up with someone.

Zeke's Herald- Quite cheap, gives a nice ad/ad bruiser focused aura. Get this around late game, in which every stat counts.

Items for AD, bruiser and tank focused team

- If you think you have enough tankyness and the enemy team are building high health or have high health champions ( ). It works well with all your atack speed.=15

- A really good item for Volibear. You will be in the center of the fight, protecting your carries, trying to bring in the enemy carries and you will get surrounded my a lot of enemy champions making a good use of this item. Not to mention it gives you good defensive stats for physical damage dealers.

- An item rearly seen on Volibear, in my opinion, but really overpowered for its low cost. It gives an auto atack speed debuff to the enemy team, giving you 20% which is important on Volibear, 99 armor, 500 mana. A really great item if the enemy team is auto-atack focused(Tryndamere=15), but works good versus physical ability teams(Talon=15).

- A good upgrade to your . It's quite good if the enemy team is constantly auto-atacking you, it does half the work for you. Also it has a good atack/movement speed decreasing active, increased by 1 second for 100 armor and magic resistance combined. Combined with frozen heart, it gives a massive auto- atack manipulation, reducing the power of enemy hyper carries like .

- This item is very cheap and a fast counter to enemy carries. Not only that it retunrns an amazing amount of the damage dealt to you but it also gives you a good chunk of armor. It is getting more popularity on high health carries like who tend to build tanky and for this particular case can further enchant it with her passive . It's a simple and good item.

- Stacking this item early will give you plenty of armor, health and health regeneration. As I heard from dyrus, its a good way to counter .

Items for ap focused team and additional items

- This item can be bought on ANYONE due to the fact that the aura stacks. It's cheap and very cost efficent. Get this if you do a lot of team fights mid game and you can sell it for an late.

- Get this if the enemy has a chain initiation which can be interupted or simply go for the stats. It is a good counter versus and also versus strong AP nukers that do more damage the less hp you have or simple have a strong burst like or . Overall a good item for extra tankiness and magic resistance.

- If the enemy team has high physical damage auto-attacks and you have to get ninja boots ( ) go for this item. It gives you better sustain and tencay if you rush it early, however you lose the gp5 bonus. I suggest you build it around mid game, or if you really need the sustain in tenacy - in early game.

- A good item if you are finding yourself chasing enemies all the time. Gives you a good chunk of health and some ad which is quite useful.

- Getting this item makes you very annoying. Not only will you stick on to enemies better with the movement speed increase, but you will also have a high magic resistance boost as well as plenty of health regeneration. This is where the extra health trough quintessence, masteries and items comes in handy. However I find QSS more efficent that this item.

- I have bought this item only once. Nothing too special, gives you extra lane sustain, more health ap and mana trought out the 10 minute mark after buying it, but just not as good as other items. Give it a try if you feel like it :)

- Optional for jungling, but meh I just dont like it on volibear. I preffer to get more health or speed early.

- Just not as powerful as I want it to be. Maybe if it was a part of an other item, I would consider getting. If you are a big fan of it, get it. Works well with or champion heals - s - & .

- I used to get this item for Volibear, but I just dont find it useful now. You are the tank and as such you should aim for AoE damage increase trough atack speed for Volibear or extra tankiness.

- I have acutally never used this on Volibear and only going to use it if my team has strong ad champs (fed or op), and if the enemy isn't building armor (no point at using it agains a 800 armor . This item was suggested by Mozolog

- This item is usually bought on champions who have high AD and spamable skills, a good example being . I just don't find it good for Volibear, but if you are willing to give it a try I suggest you buy it around late game. This item was suggested by valhure

- A pretty good item for Volibear. It gives you both AD, AS and AP. Get it around late game or last item in your build if the enemy team has low damage and are building rather tanky or if you are not the only tank in your team. This item was suggested by valhure

That's about it, sorry if I missed an item that you find usefull, you can suggest it to me it will just improve my guide and help other players :)

Summoner Spells

- Good for the new map - The proving grounds.

- Just not worth it ... It was recently nerfed and almost nobody in high elo games uses it anymore. Even for supports it's outshined by heal or exhaust.

- Quite a useful spell, get it if the enemy has good CC. Note that it doesn't remove the reduced healing from ignite

- A very good spell, if used corectly vs someone like Veigar or LeBlanc who are about to do their combo can reduce it to up to 70%!

- The best spell ingame for any champion.(With small exeptions)

- I used to get this so that I can use my ult more efficently on running targets. Get it if you are sure you will be chasing champions.

- Often used on Volibear, to trick enemies into tower diving you even without passive.

- I hate this spell(if used against me). But sometimes you learn that the dark side isn't always bad. In fact it's quite good.

- I am not a proffesional dominion player, but this spell is just useles on summoners rift if you dont buy wards 24/7.

- The health boost sounds tempting but it's just not as good as the other summoner spells.

- Get this for jungling.

- This spell is ridiculous on volibear. Combined with ignite you will melt your enemies. Try it atleast once I dare you!

- Good if you know you will have probelms on solo top.

Popular spell combinations for Volibear

- & - Good for tower baiting people or tower diving. Also makes you a better tank if you tank trought the movement of your engages and your "Plan B"

- & - A combo I saw from dyrus. It gives you a lot of power and healing reduction but you lack an escape mechanism trought summoner spells.

- & - Good for solo top. It gives you almost everything you will need there. You could change to which is covered below.

- & - I use this for support Volibear, but it is also fine on top lane. might save your life!

- & - Typical for jungling.

- & - If you are sure you will either get and early kill or wont get invaded.

- & - Good for intimidating enemies nad possible getting first blood. But I dont use it and I dont recomend it.

- & - Good for baiting enemies, but not as efficent as & because you lack an escape mechanism.

- & - Viable for supporting and solo lane, but if I would have to chose from one of these, I would take it for bot if my carry has ignite.

- & - TSM's "meta" or simple a way to troll a game. I dont suggest trolling, it could get you banned.

Ranked play

Volibear is rarely seen on tournaments or high elo play. To be honest I have no idea why such a good champion is so underplayed. He is a great jungler, amazing solo top and a hidden support. I have a 60% win ratio with him, which is quite bad in my opinion, but it shows that I am getting closer to find my true elo, due to having played a lot of games with him. In my first 100 games I came down to 850 elo and my win ratio was 45% avarage. Right now I am 1500+ (1531 as I am writing this).

Anyways if you are low elo, you will devistate enemies with him on solo top. At higher elo however pick him for solo only if you are sure you will be up againts someone you can counter. I suggest you use this. Jungle Volibear is also a very viable option. You are a very good jungler! You can jungle with boots, steal enemies red and gank. Don't pop smite on blue and ask for help. Support Volibear sounds weird but he is actually pretty powerful vs most of the aggresive supports. His fling, slow and "W" combo at lvl 3-5 can easily take first blood! It is realy up to you what lane you want to be in.

I suggest you always go jungle with him on high elo or blind pick and only go solo top if you are sure you are going vs someone you can dominate or at least not lose the lane. Support Volibear takes some prectise to learn but you will get the hang of it eventually.

Also I want to clear out that being positive and helping your teammates will lead you to almost a certain victory. You will achieve nothing if you behave like a 5 year old, who just learned curse words.

Lane explanation

I will combine all lanes suitable for Volibear here:

Solo top

If you are going solo top in ranked/draft pick make sure you are not 1st-3rd and that you are up againts someone you can counter. Focus on farm and zonning enemies if possible. Always buy wards and try not to push your lane.

Jungle

A traditional jungle rout. Start with either boots of speed and 3 potions if you want to invade or cloth armor and 5 health potions if you wont invade. I suggest playing it safe the first few games.

Support

Volibear support is one of his most underrated roles. He excels being a support vs a lane with no kiting/blink mechanisms. Charge at lvl 3-5 and possibly get first blood or make your enemies waste summoner spells. DONT KILLSTEAL YOUR CARRY. And that is pretty much it, rush early gp5, dont farm when your carry is near and get wards!

Tips and tricks

-You can use on turrets and to help you last hit a minion.

-You can use to destinquish for example shaco's clone and to make a path trough minions.

-You can juke enemies by going into a brush, waiting and flinging them, giving you a good lead.

-You can use to last hit multiple minions/creeps.

-If an enemy is running away with low hp you can hit the minions with your to kill them.

Team work

Volibear is a tank and as such his role is to make the enemy carries want to focus him, while defending his own. You should be a high damage threat in mid-late game. The most important thing when playing Volibear is DONT KILL STEAL. Its a bad habit for Volibear players. Try to fling the enemy carries into your bruisers and possibly in the range of your carries. You should be in the front line, intimidating your opponets with /t and being a badass (It is REALLY efective, trust me it has won my team many teamfights, also this was just badass when I builded full tank Volibear and they focused me xD) That is pretty much your role.

Here's a fine example:
