Introduction
Hello everyone and welcome to "My Mordekaiser's Build" guide. I am EUNE League of Legends player and my name in game is Hektor Ulmer (not my real life name, it's just what I added). My rank in other account was Diamond III, but I can't really remember my old account name because I took a break from the game for a several years but I really don't mind that and now I created new account to play for fun and not to be the best player in the game. My favourite champion in game is Viktor. I play many roles but my best role is Mid and Top lane. I play many champions but I also love to play Mordekaiser as well. He is such a great and fun champion to play. From that being said, I am going to show you why Mordekaiser is the best AP Bruiser champion to play. If you don't wanna read my guide and if you are only interested on items, that is fine for me because I created this guide for any players who mains Mordekaiser to get better in ranked or to play him just for fun. :) |
Why play Mordekaiser?
Top Lane: Strong Jungle Lane: Strong (very underrated pick) Mid Lane: Good (counterpick only into some matchups) Difficulty to play: Normal Mordekaiser is a very strong champion that does really well into many champions. Many players plays him in Top lane but he can be also played as jungler or in Mid lane. He is very strong against Bruisers or Tanks due to your Darkness Rise. He doesn't use any sources like Mana meaning he can spam his abilitie whenever he wants. He has good poke with Obliterate, great shield and sustain from Indestructible, can pull enemies with Death's Grasp and send any champion into Realm of Death aka "Brazil" and stealing stats and keep it if he gets a kill. He is quite tanky and still does a lot of magic damage even if you go full tank or if you are behind. From my experience, let me show you everything you need to know and how to play Mordekaiser. |
When to pick Mordekaiser?
You can pick Mordekaiser in every elo but he works perfectly in low/mid elo. He is such a good pick in Top lane but he can also be played as a jungler and sometimes in Mid lane but only consider this as a counterpick.
If you see that the enemy player has picked something like Cho'Gath, Malphite, Shen etc. then you can safely pick Mordekaiser. He does really well into tank matchups where they cannot trade you that well thanks to your Darkness Rise.
Against some even/skill matchups like Aatrox, Darius, Gnar or any kind of bruisers or some ranged matchups where you can catch them, then you can also pick Mordekaiser. Play smart against these matchups and if you gain a lead, you will win your lane but if you lose, then your lane has lost.
However, Mordekaiser does not do well against all in champions like Fiora, Irelia, Olaf, Tryndamere etc. These champions can trade you with no problem and Mordekaiser isn't good at auto attacking, he only does well with poking from his abilities. So I would advice not to pick Mordekaiser against them or ban this champions if you want to play with him. Overall, it's up to you.
Mordekaiser can be also picked as a jungler. He is very underrated, tanky, can clear monsters fast and has a good gank setup with his abilities. He can 1 vs 1 many jungler champions. Feel free to pick him if your team needs tank.
He can also be played as a Mid laner. Not many players plays him as he is very rarely picked in Mid lane. You would only pick Mordekaiser Mid as a counterpick where you can completely bully your oponnent. I would not suggest to pick against long ranged champions as they can sit back and poke you from distance.
Pros/Cons
Pros
+Good waveclear with Obliterate and Death's Grasp +Strong at dueling +Can counter many champions if played well +He doesn't use any source meaning, he is manaless champion +His Realm of Death can give you stats if you get a kill +Does absolute ridicilous amount of damage even if you go full Tank +Can be played in Top, Jungle or even in Mid lane +Very powerful in Mid game, scales also pretty well in late game +He has a heavy metal dance and meme about "Brazil" :) Mordekaiser is a very strong laner and very strong at dueling. He can even 1 vs 2 if he manages to play correctly in the early game. He is manaless and can stay in lane for much longer than any othe champions. His Realm of Death gives him free stats once he manages to kill a champion and he does a lot of damage in every stage of the game even if he goes full tank. He can also be played as a Jungler and can clear monsters in jungle pretty fast and can 1 vs 1 against many junglers. He also uses his guitar for dance. :) |
-Can be kited pretty easily -Weak early game -Vulnerable when his Death's Grasp and Realm of Death are on cooldown -Immobile, which he can be easily ganked -Weak when behind -Not really the best scaling champion in late game -His Realm of Death can be countered by Quicksilver Sash and other cleansable abilities like Remove Scurvy, Ragnarok etc. -Weak against all in champions ( Irelia, Olaf, Riven etc.) -Players often ban him in draft modes :/ Unfortunately, Mordekaiser has many weaknesses. He can be pretty easily kited and he isn't very strong in the early game. He doesn't have any escapes since he is immobile champion and he can be really bad if he is behind. He doesn't do well against champions who can all in which Mordekaiser can't take them well in 1 vs 1. His ultimate can be cleansed by Quicksilver Sash which smart players will buy to counter it and many other cleansable abilities. Also, a lof of players bans him in draft modes because they pretty don't like to face him since he is very powerful champion and pretty broken. :( |

Abilities
Darkness Rise (Passive)
Obliterate (Q)
Indestructible (W)
Death's Grasp (E)
Realm of Death (R)
Skill Sequence
You always start at lvl 1 Obliterate and max out first as this is main ability to poke. At lvl 2, put either point on Death's Grasp or Indestructible. After you have maxed out Obliterate, max Death's Grasp as a second to increase your magic penetration. Max last Indestructible as it will increase your shield power and healing. Always put point at lvl 6, 11 and 16 Realm of Death.
Items
Starting Items:
DORAN'S RING Doran's Ring is currently standard start for Mordekaiser against melee champions. It gives you AP, Health, helps you to last hit minions better and is has a passive that renegerates your health ( Mordekaiser is manaless champion). You should start with this item if you are confident. |
DORAN'S SHIELD Doran's Shield is a must start against ranged champions or into some melee champions who can poke you from distance. This starting item will help you to stay in your lane for much longer especially if you have Second Wind. |
DARK SEAL This starting item can be also optional if you think you can take down your opponent easily and potentially snowball. Each takedwon will give you more Ability Power and you will become much stronger but each death will decrease your power. |
GUSTWALKER HATCHLING This new jungle item is good for those who want movement speed from brush or from killing large monster. This item can help you to chase or escape from enemies since Mordekaiser is pretty immobile champion and can be kited really easily. |
MOSSTOMPER SEEDLING This new jungle item is good for tanky champions. This is also good for Mordekaiser since he can also go full tank build. While you have this item, you will gain a shield from killing large monster or for 10 seconds out of combat. While you are shielded, you will gain tenacity and slow resistance which is good against hard CC enemy team. Consider buying this if the enemy team has a lot of slows and CC. |
SCORCHCLAW PUP This new jungle item is good for those who wants to deal damage. It will slow nearby enemies and will burn on enemy target based on max health as a True damage. Consider buying this if you are planning to build damage AP items. |
STEALTH WARD You must ALWAYS start with Stealth Ward if you are playing Top or Mid lane. It reveals surrounding area so you can see on the map if the enemy junglers comes to gank you or if enemy mid laners goes roaming. Later after the enemy or your tower in mid lane is destroyed you can keep it or you can buy Farsight Alteration or Oracle Lens depending what the enemy team comp looks like. |
ORACLE LENS If you are going to Jungle, then buy this after you have bought Stealth Ward and placed somewhere near bushes. It will help you to reveal invisible enemy champions, wards or any other things. |
First Recall:
LEECHING LEER If you have enough 1300 gold, then this item is a must buy if going for Riftmaker. It gives you Ability Power, Health and Omni Vamp. It's a bit expensive than any other first back items but if you don't have that much, then buy Amplifying Tome and Ruby Crystal. |
AEGIS OF THE LEGION If you have at least 1200 gold and you are planning to go tank build, then buy Aegis of the Legion and upgrade it into Jak'Sho, The Protean. This item gives you some resistance and Ability Haste. |
BRAMBLE VEST If you are against AD champions that relies on auto attacking a lot and heals then buy this. It will help you to reduce their physical damage and they take magic damage when they hit you. This is a must buy if you are against Fiora, Sett, Tryndamere etc. |
OBLIVION ORB If you are against Sylas, Vladimir or any other champions that deals mostly magic damage and heals then buy this to reduce their healings. |
SPECTRE'S COWL If you are playing in Mid lane and if you are against burst AP champions like Fizz, LeBlanc etc or if you want Health and Magic Resist in general, then you can buy this to be more tanky. |
CONTROL WARD Buy this often when you are going to recall. It will help you to reveal location and invisible wards as you can clean them. This also reveals invisible champions such as Twitch. |
Boots:
PLATED STEELCAPS Buy these boots if you are against AD champion or if the enemy team has full of AD. This will help you to reduce their physical damage a bit. |
MERCURY'S TREADS If the enemy team has a lot of CC or that deals o lot of magic damage, then these boots are must to buy. This will help you to reduce CC duration and slows. |
IONIAN BOOTS OF LUCIDITY Quite good for CDR. With these boots, you will be able to spam your abilities a lot. I usually buy this when I play as a jungle. |
SORCERER'S SHOES Cnn be sometimes good but it's not preferable for Mordekaiser since he is AP bruiser and you need defensive items. |
Mythic Items:
RIFTMAKER This is the best Mythic item for Mordekaiser. It gives you Ability Power, Ability Haste, Health and Omni Vamp and has a passive that deals True damage. This item is best for dueling as you will be able to duel any opponent especially if you are ahead. Buy this if you are playing in Top or Mid lane. |
JAK'SHO, THE PROTEAN Anoher Mythic option if you need more defensive stats. It has a passive that reduces enemy's health and you gain reistances until the end of combat. This new tank Mythic item is actually better than Sunfire Aegis. |
FROSTFIRE GAUNTLET Since the changes of this item, it is no longer the best Mythic item for Mordekaiser but it is still viable if you want to slow your opponent with your basic attacks. Unlike Jak'Sho, The Protean, it doesn't give you Magic Resist so keep in mind. |
HEARTSTEEL This new Mythic item is completely broken fro many tank champions. It scales with health infinitively when you damage an enemy champions. If you like to be immortal in late game, then this item will surely make you proud. Do not build this if the enemy team has champions who deals damage based on max health like Vayne. |
Core Items:
RYLAI'S CRYSTAL SCEPTER This item is extremely good on Mordekaiser and it should be bought almost every single game. It gives you Ability Power, a lot of Health and has a passive that slows enemies with your abilities. This item will defenitely help you to chase your enemies easily. Get this as a first Item before going for Mythic Item. |
DEMONIC EMBRACE This item is also important for Mordekaiser. It gives you Ability Power, Health and has a passive that gives you Ability Power the more Health you have and burns enemies on their maximum Health. This item is very good into bruisers and tanks since they buy a lot of Health items. |
THORNMAIL Definitely worth to buy in almost every single game. It's very effective against AD champions who will constantly auto attack you and it will reduce thier healings and even more when they have below 50% HP. |
SPIRIT VISAGE This item is amazing on Mordekaiser. This is due to your Indestructible since it gives you shield and healings. With this item, you will gain more shields and you will heal even more. Consider to buy this as a last item or 5th depending on their enemy team. |
ZHONYA'S HOURGLASS If the enemy team doesn't have that much AD champion and they don't deal much physical damage or if you want in general more damage, then you can buy this. This item will help you to avoid some deadly ability and you can often outplay your opponent. |
NASHOR'S TOOTH This item is great for dueling as it gives you Abiltiy Power, Attack Speed and your basic attacks will deal magic damage. It's also useful in Realm of Death as you can kill enemy champions if you are inside. |
Situational Items:
MORELLONOMICON If you are up against like Sylas, Vladimir etc. then you should buy Morellonomicon to reduce their healings. Don't buy if you have Thornmail. |
SUNFIRE AEGIS Since Sunfire Aegis is no longer Mythic item, it became now Legendary. It no longer gives Ability Haste and Magic Resist anymore. It's still solid item for many tank champions. It's still worth to buy if you are planning to go tank build and you can clear your minions faster when you are closer to them. |
RANDUIN'S OMEN This item is really good situational on Mordekaiser. It gives you high Armor and Health stats and it helps ou to reduce their basic attacks. You can activate it to slow your nearby enemies and reduce their attack damage and critical strike damage. This should be bought if you are against Master Yi, Tryndamere, Yasuo etc. |
FORCE OF NATURE Amazing Magic Resist item for Mordekaiser. It gives you much better Magic Resist and Movement Speed. It has a passive that taking magic damage from enemy champions grants you Steadfast up to 6 stacks and once fully stacked, you will gain more Movement Speed and you will take reduced all incoming magic damage. |
TURBO CHEMTANK This item is no longer Mythic item and you can buy it as a situational especially if you are playing as a Jungler. It gives you good amount of stats and it's great against AP team. You can activate it to gain bonus Movement Speed when moving towards enemy champions. |
GARGOYLE STONEPLATE Gives you nice defensive stats. It has a passive that increases your Armor and Magic Resist by 5% or more when the enemy champions hits you. You can also activate it to gain massive shield and size. The more health you have, the more shield you will gain. |
WARMOG'S ARMOR So you want to be even more tankier? You need massive Health and Health regeneration. Then this item will make you very proud. Don't buy this if the enemy team has a champion that deals damage based on maximum health. |
MEJAI'S SOULSTEALER Only buy this if you are snowballing really hard. It will increase your Ability Power for each takedown but for each death, it will decrease your power. |
RABADON'S DEATHCAP So you want to deal more damage? You need more Ability Power? Then this item can help you a lot. I only prefer to buy this if you are reall fed or if your team needs more magic damage. |
Early Game
Early game, you can either play aggressively against most matchups or defensively into some hard matchups. You are pretty weak early before you reach lvl 6 but still you can kill almost any champions at lvl 1 or 2. This is because of your Darkness Rise since it does a lot of damage especially into tanks. If you are against melee champion, poke with your Obliterate before lvl 6 and farm from distance, you are not strong enough against most champions such as Sett. If you are against ranged champions or some melee that has a lot of poke, you should start with Doran's Shield and take Second Wind for sustain. Poke them with your abilities but don't let them poke you a lot until you are lvl 6. Save your Death's Grasp when your jungler is coming to help you or if the enemy player is close to death so you can get a kill unless if they have a Flash or Ghost. And make sure to always ward somewhere. Mordekaiser is very immobile and not that tanky early and can be very easily ganked especially if they have a tons of CC to prevent you from escaping. After lvl 6 and first recall, if you are not behind and you are even/ahead, you can begin to trade with your opponent. Make sure that you trade well and not making any mistake because any opponent even if you do counter, they can win any trades. You should also buy few Control Ward and place them somewhere near enemy buffs or anywhere that suits you. It will help you to stay permament until it's destroyed by any enemy champion. Once you have completed your Mythic item, your waveclear with Obliterate and Death's Grasp wil be much faster. If you are ahead, then destroy the enemy tower platings for gold or help your jungler to kill rift herald and push your Top lane together to destroy 1 or 2 towers if you are quick enough. After that, you can either continue push Top or help your team to take objectives or destroy enemy towers in other lanes. |
Mid Game
In the Mid game, your power will grow and your damage will become stronger as you will deal much more damage. If you are not behind, you can take almost any opponent in 1 vs 1 if they don't have any abilities to cleanse your Realm of Death. Take objectives with your team and push side lanes. If you have Teleport and you see on a map that there is a teamfight, help them. Try to focus on immobile champion and use your Realm of Death who has a strong teamfighting ability so you can prevent him from using in on allies or in teamfight. In the meantime, you should have completed at least 1 core item like Rylai's Crystal Scepter. Or depending on the enemy team, you can go for Thornmail or Spirit Visage if you need more defensive stats. With those items, you will be much more tankier and the enemy team will have a hard time to kill you unless if someone of them is very ahead. In teamfights, try to not get kited by ranged champions. If your Death's Grasp is on cooldown, you won't be able to catch any champion and you will be vulnerable. Also be careful when you are going to use Realm of Death on someone. Some players will buy early Quicksilver Sash to remove your ultimate. Fights will happen a lot and you should group and work as a team to win this game. Make sure to always take down objectives such as dragons and place wards in bushes or near at dragon and baron. Mordekaiser can tank enough damage if you have enough defensive stats so go first if your team doesn't have any tanks. |
Late Game
In the late game, Mordekaiser scales pretty well but he is not like many scaling champions like Fiora, Jax, Yone etc. You will be pretty much tanky and you will still do good amount of damage. You want to always grouping with your team in the stage of the game. Don't stay in back line like a coward, go first towards enemies if needed. If your team needs a split pusher, then you can do that if you need to. However, you want to take most important objectives like Dragon if you are close to claim Soul or Baron if you need more power and make minions much more stronger. If you have one of those, then begin to split push lanes. In teamfights, if you are only tank champion, then go first and try to focus the most important target like ADC or Support especially if they are immobile where you will be able to catch them. Enemies wil have a hard time to kill you and they will try to focus your other squishy targets. The best way to use your Realm of Death on someone who has a massive AoE CC abilities or on Support like Soraka, Yuumi to prevent them from healing. If you have killed a target with Realm of Death, you will be much stronger and you will have an easier time to deal with other enemies. Don't let enemy team kites you. If you are always CC-ed by their enemy abilities, you won't be able to move and you will likely die. Your Death's Grasp can interrupt chanelling abilites such as Katarina's Death Lotus or Nunu & Willump's Absolute Zero. Always make sure to watch their enemy items. If one of them has Quicksilver Sash, do not use your Realm of Death unless if they have already used on other CC. Also, try to not use your ultimate who is really fast and can kite your pretty well, you won't be able to kill the target fast. |
Combos/Tips and Tricks
Mordekaiser has some interesting combos that some players are not using it. I am going to show you a few combos:
1. Death's Grasp + Realm of Death + Obliterate + few auto attacks: All in at Level 6 with E then instantly R them followed by using Q on your target mid air.
2. Obliterate + Flash: Q then near the end of the animation Flash to ensure the Q hits.
3. Death's Grasp + Flash: To escape you can E your target away from yourself, then Flash in the opposite direction.
4. Obliterate + 2 auto attacks + Death's Grasp + auto attack: Q then AA to proc your passive and E your target back into you if they start to run away.
5. Death's Grasp + auto attack + Obliterate + auto attack: To help guarantee your Q, E at close range then AA and Q them at their travel destination.
6. Auto attack + Obliterate + auto attack: To trade and get your passive AA and Q between AA timers.
7. Death's Grasp + Obliterate + auto attack: To engage use E from max range then Q while they are traveling.
I have a video about Mordekaiser for Tips and Tricks so you can watch it here if you want (not mine and it's pretty old video):
How to farm and freeze
Farming
Farming is the most important thing in the game. You have to make sure to always last hit minions when they are close to death. Simply use your basic attack to last hit minions. When under your turret, make sure to wait for your turret to hit them before last hitting them. Don't always use your abilities to hit minions unless if you are going to clear them fast. You can clear your minions fast with Death's Grasp and Obliterate once you are at least lvl 9 and have few items. With that, you will be able to farm much faster and push your lane much better. Always last hit Large Cannon minion as they give much gold.
What does freezing mean?
Freezing is a technique that lets you deny your opponent exp and cs. Freezing a lane means that you kite/tank the minions without letting your tower hit the creeps. Always make sure that enemy minions beats yours. If you are keep doing this, you are completely safe from ganks while your opponent will be afraid of ganks and will eventually lost a lot of exp and cs.
I do not recommended to freeze against harder matchups unless if you are very far ahead. If you want to freeze, make sure the enemy pushed you under the tower. In this way, enemy will be vulnerable to ganks. Freezing will force the enemy laner to overextend for farm and will keep you safe since you will be close to the turret. The downside is that you won't be applying any pressure, leaving your opponent free to roam. If you are very far ahead and you are freezing by not pushing, enemy will be in your kill range and he will loss a lot of exp and cs leaving him behind. This is a great way to snowball to lead unless if you have other objectives such as dragons, towers etc.
Warding
Warding in League of Legends is incredibly important for every role and every game you play. It is a necessity for everyone to know when to ward, where to ward and how to become better at warding.
Without any vision control, you will find it difficult to survive the early game, win the mid game and close out the late game. When you understand the fundamentals of warding and how you can use it to your advantage, it can really help you win more.
Every player has to start (unless if they play as a jungler) with Stealth Ward. This ward is very important to reveal small area around. You can either place it if you think the enemy team is going to invade or you can place it later once around 3 minutes. Once you have first recall, you should buy at least 1 or 2 Control Wards. This ward will always stay until it's destroyed and it will reveal any invicible units and Stealth Wards as well. I have added wards in this new Mobafire map and you can see notes by using your mouse on Ward Icons. This is ward map for Top lane:
And this is map for Mid lane:
This is probably the best places you can put your wards. The more you will put the wards, the more vision score you will gain. After you have finished your lane, you can keep your Stealth Ward if you need more wards or you can replace it with Farsight Alteration to reveal small area from huge distance or with Oracle Lens if you wanna clear enemy wards or the enemy team has like Teemo to reveal his mushrooms. It's up to you.
Mordekaiser Jungle?
Yes, Mordekaiser can be played as a jungler. He is pretty tanky, has a good waveclear with Obliterate and Death's Grasp, can negate damage with Indestructible from monsters and has a good gank with Death's Grasp. He can duel almost any opponent in jungle who doesn't have all in abilities. He can snowball if he is ahead can steal stats with Realm of Death making him even more tankier. He can still does a lot of damage even if he goes full tank build. The downsides for him is that he has low mobility, can be pretty kited and can be weak when behind. From that being said, I will show you how to jungle as Mordekaiser.
How to Jungle
Now look guys, I'm not the best jungler in the game. I often have a bad games when I go jungle but everyone has the same problem. I will do my best to show you how to clear monsters, how to gank, invade taking objectives etc. So here is my jungle map that I draw myself. The red lines means that you are starting Red buff and blue lines means that you are starting Blue buff. I will explain for each one starting from blue side and then from red side:
Blue side: Before they start, they put Control Wards in bush near dragon or near baron so they can see the enemies and then they go base to get Oracle Lens. Most jungler players starts on Red buff from help of Bot lanes leashing. After that, depending what champion you play, they go either krugs or raptors. In my opinion, it's better to go raptors so you can go to your Blue buff and gromb faster. After that, you can either gank Top or Mid lane or take down scuttler. If your players are pushing too hard and you can't help them, then take scuttler, if they are losing, help them. Make sure to check in bushes for Stealth Ward's with Oracle Lens. If there is none, now it's your chance to help your players. Be very careful about their enemy junglers as they can come also to take scruttle (if they have started Blue buff on red side). If they have started Red buff on red side. they might invade you and they will try to steal your Blue buff and gromp. If you think the enemy jungler will try to steal your buff, you can then get there fast after Red buff or you can try to steal their Blue buff but it will be too risky. If you somehow died early by enemy jungler, don't panic. You can still comeback in late game. Everyone can be behind and have a bad game but that is how it is. If you are planning to start Blue buff on blue side, then take gromp, wolfs, raports and Red buff. After that, you can go either Bot or Mid to gank or if you can't do that, then go take scruttle.
Red side: Many players start on Blue buff and then get Red buff as soon as possible and then gank either Top or Mid. They will often encounter enemy jungler near scruttle. If you are encounter him, ask your Top and Mid laner to help you to kill the enemy. If sucsess, you will gain lead. If you are planning to start Red buff, then go raports after that, then wolfs and then Blue buff and gromp. After that, you can either gank Bot or Mid lane or take scruttle. If your laners are winning and pushing hard, then try to help your Top lane or you can try to dive enemies if they are low but make sure that you don't get outplayed. Just like on blue side, enemy jungler can invade you and try to steal your buffs and kill you so ping your team to help you.
If you have gain an advantage early, you can take dragon quickly with help from your Bot lane. If you are not behind, try to take monsters for items and try to help lanes as much as you can. Buy some Control Wards to put somewhere in bushes. Make sure to always clean Stealth Wards in bushes with Oracle Lens. Watch the timer above and make sure to ping the dragon and rift herald time below 1 minute. If your Top or Mid laner is winning, then try to take Rift Herald quickly and destroy their towers to gain massive gold. The more you destroy the towers, the better. And make sure that you always used Smite 5 times on monsters to gain an upgrade. Your Smite damage will increase to 900 and you have an easier time to kill dragon, herald and baron or even steal it if you are lucky. Always save at least 1 on epic monsters. You should use 1 on champion if you are planning to duel or slow depending which jungle item you have started.
That is everything about my explanation on jungle. I'm not the best but I hope you will learn it.
There is also a video about Mordekaiser jungle from mobalytics so check it out if you haven't:
Mordekaiser Mid?
Mordekaiser can be also picked in Mid lane as well. He is very underrated and people are asking why play Mordekaiser Mid. Well, the answer is: he is quite tanky, he can do well against most melee champions and even some ranged champions and he is completely manaless meaning he can spam his abilities whenever he wants. Even if he is behind, he can still comeback and takedown most champions. I would only pick as a counterpick to counter some champions instead of picking mages. However, you should not pick against some long ranged champions as they never get close to you and can poke you from distance.
So which champion does he well against? I'll add some champions:
Easier: Annie, Diana, Ekko, Fizz, Galio, Katarina, Lissandra, Pantheon, Qiyana, Vex, Yasuo.
And which champions are hard for Mordekaiser:
Harder: Anivia, Azir, Cassiopeia, Irelia, Ryze, Syndra, Vel'Koz, Viktor, Yone.
There are many champions in Mid lane but I added some that are in my opinion. Overall, consider this Mordekaiser Mid as a counterpick only if you want to counter some champions.
Roaming (Mid lane)
Roaming is very impactful for a mid laner because it is the center lane on the map. You are always a threat to help out top or bot lane. Mid laners are also usually the closest to their jungler, and as such can make plays on the map together.
It is important to first tend to your minion wave before you roam. Ideally, you will get the minion wave pushed into the enemy turret and then look to roam. You can still roam if you clear the minion wave after the enemy mid clears theirs, but you will have lost tempo on your map movement.
You also need to be aware of the situation on the map you are moving toward. Your allies should have enough health and mana to support you in your gank. It is also helpful if your allies can communicate to you what summoner spells the enemies still have available.
You must be sure that you have a safe path to the lane you want to roam on. The enemy jungler can block your path if you do not have sufficient wards or information on the junglers whereabouts.
Every champion in Mid lane can roam even those who is immobile. If you are playing Mordekaiser Mid, he isn't mobile champion. He can of course roam but he is slow champion (unless if you bring Ghost). If you are planning to roam other lanes a lot, then make sure that you have pushed your lane hard and that your players are under their towers while the enemy players are getting lead and pushing hard. Make sure that you are healthy enough and that you are well prepared. If the enemy Bot lane is retreating and you are going to roam, that means they know you are going to help your Bot lane because the enemy player must have placed their wards somewhere. In other words, let me show you which way is the best to roam (I drawed this myself):
White Lines: This is the simple way to roam. Going on the river and roaming either on Bot or Top way is the fastest way to roam.
Blue Lines: If you are on the blue side, there are some ways to roam. If you are planning to roam on Bot lane, you can do it by going on river, then heading near Blue buff on the red side and then going into bushes. Once you reach there and if the enemy Bot lane is near their tower, you can come to help your Bot lane to get the kills. If you are going on Top lane, first go to riven then go between the baron and Red buff on the red side and then go in the bushes. Be prepared if the enemy doesn't know you are there so you can help your Top laner to get the kill.
Red Lines: If you are on the red side, if you are going to roam on Bot lane, you can go between Red buff on the blue side and dragon and once you reach in the bushes, be quick to get there or else the enemy will retreat near the tower. Or if they are near their tower and they are low, you can try to get the kills. If going on Top lane, first go to the river and then go left where is there near blue buff on the blue side and then head to the bushes. Once you have reached there, if the enemy is completely low, help your Top laner to kill the enemy.
Playing from behind
So everybody is asking what to do when your enemy is ahead and you are behind. Well, if you are behind, don't worry about it, the game isn't just over yet and it isn't so early to surrender. Keep your mental up. Playing from behind is something you got to learn. This extends to both in lane and out of lane gameplay. If your team is ahead and you're behind, then there is a high chance to win the game. For example, if Bot lane is very ahead and they have destroyed their enemy tower, they will likely to be fed and the enemy team will try hard to destroy them so just pray if they are good players. If you and all your team is behind, then there is a very little chance to comeback as it will be very hard to stop them unless if the enemy is completely throwing the game.
Your general focus should be on farming and avoiding fights. Also avoid roaming and utilize lane wards so you can warn your team when your opponent goes somewhere. Do not follow their roams. Even if you do get there in time, your impact will be severely limited due to being behind. Also, build defensive items to survive if you are behind. This will help you to prevent them to busrt you down quickly. It will not work every single game but at least it will give you a bit advantage.
As a Mordekaiser player you will often struggle in many games due to your immobility and counterpicks. Smart players will find a way to destroy you. Mordekaiser isn't good pick in high elo so keep in that mind. If you are encountering toxic, inting and flaming players, simply mute them andkeep playing the game. League of Legends is sadly the most toxic game in the world and Riot doesn't do anything about bad and toxic players. But this is just a game and you are playing the game for fun.
Top Lane Matchups
Mordekaiser does really well against many opponents but he struggles against all in champions and most ranged champions where you can't catch them easily as they can kite you pretty well. That being said, I am going to show you matchups in Top lane. After that, I will show chapters below for Jungle and Mid matchups as well:
Difficulty: Very Easy, Easy, Normal, Hard or Very Hard
Recommended Runes: This will describe which runes you should use against champions. Some of the champions will have 2 or even more options but it's up to you which you will use
Which Summoner Spell you should use: This will describe what summoner spell you should use before the game starts
Which Item you should start: This will describe what item you should buy first when the game starts
Which Rune Keystone they use: This will describe which rune keystone are they using
Which Summoner Spell they use: This will describe which summoner spell are they using (I will not put Flash as a main summoner spell on matchups since everyone is using it so I will just add only what secondary summoner spell are they using). However, some players will use both summoner spells like Ignite and Teleport instead of Flash for killing pressure
Which Item do they start: This will describe which item have they started with
Their usual full build: This will describe what players have their full build when they have bought items (This is just in my opinion. Many players have their different full build what do they like or what is strong in the current meta)
I added a quick matchup tier list so you can see every champion what I added in each difficulty that there are in my opinion but every player have their opinions as well. I will first add Top lane matchups and write them about how to deal with:

Jungle Matchups
Mordekaiser is also very good and probably the most underrated jungler in the game. He can outmatch any opponent but some of the enemy junglers are pretty terrible for Mordekaiser. Like Top lane, I will show you some matchups and I added a quick matchup tier list for jungle. Like from above, you will see difficulties and things in matchups. I will not add Recommended Runes because you will always use those Runes as a jungler and I will not add Summoner Spells and their enemy Summoner Spells, neither starting Jungle item (I will only add what enemy champion is using keystone, Summoner Spell ( Flash, Ghost etc but I'm not going to add Smite) and starting jungle item. If you are against jungle champion that has many CC, then use Unflinching instead of Overgrowth.) :

Mid Lane Matchups
Mordekaiser can be also played in Mid lane but only consider this as a counterpick to counter some matchups. He does well against many melee assassins but he doesn't do well against long ranged champions. Like Top lane and Jungle, I will show you some matchups and I added a quick matchup tier list for Mid lane. Like from above, you will see difficulties and things in matchups:

There are a lot of champions that works really well with Mordekaiser but I am going to show you some champions in my opinion that are best with. I am first going to add which champions are the best when going Top/Mid Mordekaiser then in Jungle Mordekaiser:
Top/Mid Mordekaiser:
Almost every champion works well with Amumu. He is tanky, has a good gank setup with his Q and does absolutely well in teamfights thanks to his ultimate. When the enemy team gets caught, you can choose which enemy champion you wanna send to Realm of Death. |
She has a very powerful early game and can snowball easily if she gets few kills. If she manages to stun your opponent, you can get takedown. Also in teamfights, it's easy to catch enemy with your Death's Grasp or Realm of Death if she hits a stun. |
Very tanky, fast, infinite sustain and perhaps the best ganking champion in the game thanks to his giant snowball. He can either go full tank or full AP. If he goes full AP, he can do massive amount of damage with his ultimate if he manages to hit enemies. |
Extremely mobile and tanky jungle that can fast gank and easily taunt the enemy champion. He is also good against AD team comp as he will manage to soak a lot of physical damage. |
Extremely powerful early game champion that can snowball very easily if she gets ahead. Her gank setup is very good and does insane amount of damage. However, she doesn't scale well into late game so be sure to finish the game quickly. |
Very tanky, has a lot of CC slows and stuns. Very great jungler and a teamfighter. |
Not the popular jungler but he does well wit Mordekaiser. If he ults enemy champion before they go free, Mordekaiser can ult him into Realm of Death. |
She deals a lot of magic damage and has a good gank setup with her knock ups. She can also reach from half map with her ultimate and can block enemy paths. |
He steals enemy champion's stats with his ultimate, you steal enemy's stats also. Very good combination. |
Very strong jungler with his early insane damage. He can make enemy towers disabled as he can tower diving low enemy champions. |
If he manages to hit enemy champion with his ultimate, you can ult him easily before he is free. Good combo. |
Amazing tanky jungler with his unescapable CC. He can perma engage enemies with his abilities and can knock up enemies with his ultimate. Also, it's har to kill him due to his passive. |
Jungle Mordekaiser:
He is a very powerful champion right now. He has enough CC to prevent enemy champion from escaping and you can easily pull him with your Death's Grasp. |
Ashe has a lot of slows that can slow enemy champions and you can easily catch them. When she is lvl 6, she can use her ultimate to stun enemy champion and you can use your Realm of Death to kill the target. |
He pulls the enemy champion and you pull the enemy with your Death's Grasp. Very nice combo. |
She can stun enemy champion with her hookshot or she can use her ultimate to prevent enemy champion to escape as you can use your Realm of Death to kill. |
He has tons of CC for a gank setup and you can easily catch the enemy champion. |
Darius has a pull ability, Mordekaiser has a pull ability. Which means double pull! |
Fizz is a deadly champion if he gets ahead. He can mega slow enemy champion with his ultimate and you can either pull or send him to Realm of Death to get takedown. |
He has a lot of CC that can knock up or taunt enemies and you can easily catch them with your abilities. |
Amazing tanky support that has a lot of CC. She can easily stun any opponent and if she manages to hit enemies with her ultimate, they are in big trouble. |
She has a lot of CC that can root or stun enemy champion with her ultimate. She can also roam really well. |
Eiher Mid or Support, she can roo enemies if she manages to hit and you can pull them for kill. |
Probably the best tank teamfighting champion. He is very good against AD team comp and if he hits enemies with his ultimate, they are 100% dead. |
He can suppress enemy champion with his ultimate and you can send enemy into Realm of Death once he is free. |
Great late game scaling tank champion that has a lot of CC abilties. With his roots, enemies will have a hard time to escape. |
Her root has like 3 seconds time and you can pull him for kill. She also has black shield that can ignore any CC and she is a good teamfighter as well. |
His perma slow is very good for a gank setup as you can pull enemy to death. He also scales like a monster in late game if he has enough stacks. |
One of the best scaling tank champion in the game. He has massive CC abilities, can give free stats to your allies from his passive and he deals massive damage in every stage of the game. |
He can stun enemy champion and you can pull him to death. He also roams really well with his ultimate. |
He can either pull or stun enemy champions as you can catch them with your abilities. He also gives you extra gold if he manages to get kill with his ultimate and you have an assist. |
Very strong early game champion that can snowball easily if he is ahead. He can stun enemy champion and you can ehlp him to snowball. |
Senna has a root ability, heal and once she has enough stacks from her passive, she will be a monster in late game. |
Shen has a great gank setup thanks to his taunts. He also can come to an ally with his ultimate. |
Either AD or Tank Sion, he has tons of CC as he can also split push other lnaes non stop. He gets also tankier once the game goes on. |
He is really tanky and has good CC. He can either use his ultimate on enemy to spit on your team or he save one of your ally. |
Thresh has enough CC for a gank setup and you can catch the enemies easily. |
He has a good gank setup with his gold card and can roam other lanes once he is lvl 6. |
He can root enemies once he is lvl 6 and you can use your ultimate who gets caught. If he goes AP, he will deal insane amount of damage if he is ahead. |
Veigar has a good gank setup with his cage and if they get stunned, you can use your ultimate for kill. If he has enough stacks, he will be a monster in late game. |
Your Death's Grasp works well with Yasuo's ultimate as he can use it without using his tornados. |
Gives you massive bonus movement speed. He can also super slow enemies and can give you another life with his ultimate. |
What to ban?
There are many OP or should I say: Broken champions that many players found them frustrating to beat them or they don't wanna face them in general. I am going to show you what recommended champions you should ban if you are playing going to play Mordekaiser in each lane (Top/Jungle/Mid):
Top lane:
She is an anti duelist, anti tank champion that counters many champions if she plays correctly. She can riposte your abilities including your ultimate and putting it into your cooldown. It's really hard to play against goof Fiora but it's not impossible to win. She is worth to ban since she is still broken champion. |
Very annoying to face a good Gangplank since he pokes you a lot and does insane amount of damage once he has several items. He also gains much gold than you and he can remove your Realm of Death with his Remove Scurvy. If you don't want to face this pirate, then feel free to ban him. |
SHe just trades you way better. She is an all in champion that relies on auto attacking a lot since she gains attack speed when she kills minions and she will not let you escape with her ultimate. She is another worth ban champion as she is still broken as hell. |
Olaf has become insanely powerful champion due to his rework. He is another all in champion that beats you in every stage of the game no matter how the game goes. You cannot use your ultimate on him as he will remove it with his ultimate. This is another worth ban champion. |
You don't like this barbarian king. You don't like his lucky crits? You don't like his Undying Rage? Then feel free to ban this no skill champion. |
She doesn't appear a lot in Top lane thankfully but she completely counters you in general. She completely counters you in every way. She can avoid your abilities due to her mobility and she will buy Quicksilver Sash to cleanse your ultimate. Even without that, she can 1 vs 1 even if you have uses your ultimate. Why? Because of her True damage from her Silver bolts. That's why. She is one of the hardest counter to Mordekaiser. If you think you can beat any Top lane champion, then ban Vayne. |
Another all in champion. He has mixed damage and will beat you if he is good. He can avoid your ultimate if he uses his spirit form correctly. This guy is worth to ban especially for Yone haters. |
Jungle:
Stupid designed broken champion. She does stupid crazy amount of damage and if she is ahead, there is no way you can comeback against good Bel'Veth. Many players are now banning Bel'Veth so you can ban her too if you hate her. |
The problem against Graves is that he has good way to avoid your abilities and can be very dangerous if he is ahead. He can also kite you well. You can ban him if you don't like that champion. |
Mobile, ranged, high damage potential, hard to catch her can kite you forever. Another good ban. |
I always permaban this no skill noob champion when I play Mordekaiser jungle. I am not going to esxplain him how easy is to play with. If you didn't ban him and they have picked him and he plays well, good luck on FF. |
New Udyr rework is now completely broken champion. He fast clears monsters, he is super tanky and does insane amount of damage. If he is ahead, he will carry the game. Ban this human abomination until he is getting nerfed. |
Mid lane:
Very frustrating to play against good Azir. He will poke you with his soldiers and you can't catch him because he will escape from it. This champion is good ban if you are planning to play Mordekaiser Mid. |
She is an absolute nightmare for Mordekaiser. She does really well against many melee champions. If you try to trade her, she will trade you back much better as she will gain bonus movement speed from her abilites. She is also a good ban if you hate snakes. |
He is extremely good against short ranged champion and immobile melee champions. He is a control mage that has great zone control, poke and he will place his stun on you if you try to engage on him. After his pasive is ful and has enough items, he will just beat you and outscale you. This guy is very good to ban for those who hates lasers. |
How to counter Mordekaiser?
If you wanna know how to counter Mordekaiser while facing him, I found a video from Mobalytics that explains everything you need to know. Hopefully, it will help you out when playing against him!
Conclusion
And that's it. That's the end of the my guide. I hope this guide will help you a lot and make your games much better with Mordekaiser. If you got any questions, feel free to ask me anything.
I also created other guides as well so check it out if you wanna play with them:
