Kayn, the Edgy lad with a scythe Hey all and welcome to my Kayn guide! I'm a Kayn main with 600+ games and 300k points.I wrote a guide to hopefully help you learn this champ. I also made a VERY bad Aphelios guide.This guide contains info for runes, items, matchups, spells and me fangirling over this champ.

PROS + High damage + Great jungle clear + Can avoid walls because of Shadow Step + High mobility + Fun to play + Extremely anime and edgy Kayn is a unique champion because he is able to transform into a demonic bruiser that plays like Aatrox and Darius or a high damage shadow assassin who plays similar to Zed and Talon. He ganks are extremly unique because he is able to ignore walls (which is amazing!!) And your able to clear jungle champs like Raptors and Wolves with only 2 casts of Reaping Slash.

CONS - Low range - Weak to Crowd Control - Without a form he is extremely weak - Has many hard matchups - Needs to get form early to be useful - High cooldown for Shadow Step - Struggles vs ranged champs Kayn Has many cons like his low range but has able to catch up to any mages or adc's. He gets countered by Master Yi, who is extremely popular and wuju win this match up? His early game is decent because of his ganks and jungle camp clear but his base form is very extremely squishy

The darkin scythe (Passive)

Everytime Kayn damages an enemy champion he gains orbs that he automatically collect. If he damages Melee champions e.g. Leona, Sion and Yasuo he will gain orbs for Rhaast but if he damages ranged champions e.g. Nami, Aphelios and Neeko he gains blue orbs If he has more red orbs than blue ones he is able to transform into Rhaast/Darkin/Red Kayn. If he has damaged more ranged enemies than melee enemies he can become Shadow Assassin/Blue Kayn Rhaast: You heal 30-40% for the damage you deal Shadow Assassin: Every 8 seconds OR if he casts Umbral Trespass he deals 12%-44% Extra magic damage (depending of level) lasting for 3 seconds

Reaping slash (Q) RANGE: 350 COST: 50 mana COOLDOWN: 6 / 5.5 / 5 / 4.5 / 4

Kayn dashes in a straight line then slashes in the area around him. Both the dash and slash deal damage. This ability deals 40 extra damage to monsters. Rhaast: Reaping Slash's damage is is changed to deal physical damage depending on the targets health for both instances. This damage is capped against monsters but does not include the bonus damage. Reaping Slash can go though some small walls. You can use this to get over walls if Shadow Step is on cooldown Dash speed scales with Kayn's movement speed Use Reaping Slash when you are chasing or running away.

Blade's reach (W) RANGE: 700 COST: 60 / 65 / 70 / 75 / 80 mana COOLDOWN: 13 / 12 / 11 / 10 / 9

Kayn deals damage in a line with his scythe, dealing physical damage to all enemies in a line in the target direction and slowing them by 90% decaying over 1.5 seconds. Rhaast: You gain knockup for 1 second Shadow Assassin: Blade's Reach has a increased cast range and is able to move during the cast time because its casted by a living shadow Casting. Blade's Reach is your only form of crowd control When casting Blade's Reach you are stuck in one place

Shadow step (E) DURATION: 7 / 7.5 /8 / 8.5 /9 COST: 90 mana COOLDOWN: 21 / 19 / 17 / 15 / 13

Kayn gains 40% bonus movement speed, is ghosted and can ignore terrain collision for 1.5 seconds. Immobilizing effects will interrupt Shadow Step Shadow Assassin: Shadow Step's cooldown is reduced to 8 seconds at all ranks. Casting Shadow Step cleanses Kayn from all slows and cripples and grants him slow immunity for the duration. Additionally, entering terrain will increase the bonus movement speed to 80% for the remaining duration. Use Shadow Step to start your ganks If this ability is active you recall one second earlier (Pretty neat right?!)

Umbral trespass (R) RANGE: 550 COST: 100 mana COOLDOWN: 120 / 100 / 80

Passively kayn marks enemy champions he damages. When activated, he becomes untargetable and infests and enemy for 2.5s At the end kayn dashes out at a targeted location dealing damage. Rhaast: You Heal for damage you deal while dealing max health damage Shadow Assassin: This ability gains an extra 200 bonus cast range and resets The Darkin Scythe cooldown. Use this ability to dodge spells and CC Can be blocked by Poppy's Steadfast Presence and Sivir's Spell Shield

Rhaast is a Juggernaut. Only go Rhaast when you against champs like: Dr. Mundo, Sett and Riven.

On the other hand, Shadow Assassin specialises in going after squishy champions like Ashe, Soraka and Syndra.

KEYSTONE Dark Harvest: Rhaast's passive as a rune... but you get free damage so its chill.

PRIMARY RUNE Triumph: When you kill someone you get some health back AND some gold. Handy when fighting in teamfights.

PRIMARY RUNE Legend: Tenacity: Reduces the duartion that you CC-ed for; great for fighting vs champs like Leona

PRIMARY RUNE Last Stand: Are you low on health ? Then this will kick in and give you bonus damage

SECONDARY RUNE Sudden Impact: Gives you bonus damage after dashing. Now... you could go Taste of Blood for more sustain but thats up to you :]

SECONDARY RUNE Ravenous Hunter: This is the only rune on the row that goes. Oh and Ghost Poro but still (i'm tired -_-).

KEYSTONE Dark Harvest: With this, Kayn has more burst and will deal more damage when using Blade's Reach and after comparing the damages between Electrocute and Dark Harvest and Dark Harvest always did more damage.

PRIMARY RUNE Sudden Impact: This rune gives Kayn bonus lethality after dashing. Its kind of a little damage boost on a 4 second cooldown. You can switch to Taste of Blood if you want extra healing.

PRIMARY RUNE Ghost Poro: This rune gives Kayn extra vision control across the jungle. You can switch for Eyeball Collection but your vision score will suffer greatly.

PRIMARY RUNE Relentless Hunter: Kayn uses this rune to chase and help finish off low health enemies. The other options in this row Ravenous Hunter, Ultimate Hunter and Ingenious Hunter but Relentless Hunter works the best with him. Build Mobility Boots so you you dont loose your speed

SECONDARY RUNE Nimbus Cloak: This used to be Nimbus Cloak to chase low health enemies after using Chilling Smite and can give you movement speed after you Flash away

SECONDARY RUNE Gathering Storm: With such good scaling, Kayn uses Gathering Storm to gain increasing AD over time. While this rune provides no stat bonuses at the beginning of the game, it can easily provide upwards of 30+ AD.

These minor runes are the best for Kayn, the Diamond gives you bonus damage, scaling with level. the shield and circle represent Armor and magic resist. Swap between the two depending on your matchup

Shield bash OK,OK,OK, before i get tons of comments saying 'Doesn't work WTF are you talking about?' My answer is: Sterak's Gage exists.

Revitalize More healing!!! Revitalize + Spirit Visage + Conqueror = A Fück ton of healing

Noxian by birth, Shieda Kayn and others like him were conscripted as child soldiers, a cruel practice employed by only the most devious commanders in Boram Darkwill’s empire. Following the disastrous battle at the Placidium of Navori, the invasion was deliberately reformulated into a protracted war of attrition. Ionian compassion was a weakness to be exploited—their warriors would hesitate before striking down a supposed innocent. Thus, barely able to lift the blade he had been given, Kayn’s first day in battle was also expected to be his last.

Striking against the province of Bahrl, Noxian forces landed at the mouth of the Epool River. Kayn and the others were a reluctant vanguard, facing disorganized bands of locals defending their home from these returning invaders. While his young comrades were cut down or fled the battlefield, Kayn showed no fear. He dropped his heavy sword and snatched up a fallen sickle, turning to face the shocked Ionians just as the Noxian regulars swept in from the flank.

The carnage was staggering. Farmers, hunters—even a handful of vastaya—all were butchered without ceremony.

Two days later, after word had spread throughout the southern provinces, the Order of Shadow came upon the grisly scene. Their leader, Zed, knew this area had no tactical significance. This massacre was intended as a message. Noxus would show no mercy.

A flickering glint of steel caught his eye. A child of no more than ten lay in the mud, leveling his broken sickle at the master assassin, bloody knuckles straining white. The boy’s eyes harbored a pain that belied his age, yet still burned with all the fury of a hardened warrior. This tenacity was not something that could be taught. Zed saw in this child, this abandoned Noxian survivor, a weapon that could be turned against those who had sent him here to die. The assassin held out his hand and welcomed Kayn into the Order of Shadow.

Acolytes traditionally spent years training with a single weapon of their choosing, but Kayn mastered them all—to him, they were mere tools, and he was the weapon. Armor he viewed as a cumbersome burden, instead cloaking himself in shadows and slaying his enemies with quickness and stealth. These swift executions instilled fear in the hearts of those fortunate enough to be spared.

And as Kayn’s legend grew, so did his arrogance. He truly believed that one day his power would eclipse even that of Zed himself.

This hubris led Kayn to embrace his final test: to seek out a darkin weapon recently unearthed in Noxus, and prevent it from ever being used against the weary defenders of Ionia. He accepted without hesitation, never questioning why he had been chosen for this task. Indeed, where any other acolyte would have destroyed the living scythe known as Rhaast, Kayn took it for himself.

The corruption took hold the moment his fingers closed around the weapon, locking them both in a fateful struggle. Rhaast has long awaited the perfect host in order to rejoin its darkin brethren and lay waste to the world, but Kayn will not be easily dominated. He returns to Ionia in triumph, convinced that Zed will name him the new leader of the Order of Shadow.
