Threats & Synergies
Aatrox is definently a hard early lane for Urgot, you shouldn't try to trade too much early because he will just sustain you, focus on dodging his Q's and playing around the sweetspots and try to get some healing cut in this lane, I usually go executioners calling unless I fall behind then I will go bramble, early ninja tabis and phage can be good for the movement speed, once you're 9+ this lane should get a lot easier and you destroy him in the splitpush and teamfights.
I don't find Akali much of a problem but she can snowball out of control if she gets fed or gets a lot of jungle help. You should win most trades with her early and if she ever uses her shroud poorly you want to go all in and punish her for it, also when she is in her shroud you want to keep your W on since they usually pop out to trade with you and then go back invisible, having your W on means you can still trade back because it will lock onto her instantly. once you get a completed item + merc treads she just doesn't have the burst to kill you usually if it's even score, if you're slightly behind and the Akali is running ignite you can go for a hexdrinker in this matchup, also you want to try to use your ultimate after you land an E in this matchup since akali is very slippery, unless she ults away and is low then you can try to use your ultimate to snipe her. You should also outscale her pretty hard in teamfights unless she is very fed.
Camille isn't much of a problem for me usually, the key things in this matchup are playing around her passive and not trading stupidly into it, dodging her early W's in lane is also important, and don't take hit her empowered Q's on you for true damage, if she ever E's into you then she has no escape tool and you can usually kill her, make sure to either R her right after your E or wait for her to R because a decent camille will easily use her R to dodge your R. You also outscale this matchup really hard.
This matchup is usually very easy, you should get an early merc treads in this matchup as they're very strong against Cho, I usually go cleaver and death's dance as my first two big items here and once you get them he just doesn't have the damage to keep up, between conqurer and your passive leg procs it's just too much damage/healing for him, make sure you're trying your best to get your passive leg procs in this matchup as well as trying your best to dodge his Q which should be easy most of the time. I also usually hard push cho'gath in early game since his sustain is fairly high I don't bother trading very much I just play for a CS lead to get my core items quicker, obviously be careful with this and it is dependent on who the enemy jungler is playing.
Darius is a hard lane but easy champion to beat post level 9, I like to start Doran's shield in this matchup because it keeps you safe early which is what you want, I also run second wind in this matchup instead of conditioning, also early ninja tabi's can be great in this matchup since movement speed is so valuable against darius and a lot of them take ghost+flash. I also personally buy Black Cleaver in this matchup first because the HP is important for surviving, I also build frozen mallet third item after death's dance since HP is the only counter to his true damage and the slow comes in handy vs darius. Another thing to keep in mind is you can use your E before he pulls you and your E will go off right when you get pulled to him so he doesn't even get an auto attack off so I always reccomend just E'ing if you think he is going to pull you worst case scenario is you just E away. You should win this matchup level 9+ and once you have black cleaver if you aren't too far down, also try to dodge his Q heal and try to hit your E if you can E into him as he Q's to dodge the outer heal that is the most ideal and you will win the 1v1, if you made mistakes in lane or fought when you shouldnt have and you're behind you should still be able to win level 13+ as long as it's 1v1. Basically this is a don't make big mistakes early on matchup.
Mundo is never a problem because his early game is just terrible in my opinion, consider buying an executioners calling in this matchup to make his healing even worse, you can usually kill this guy many times before he hits level 11 and that's when he becomes a decent tank where his ultimate actually heals something, look for all ins at level 6 once you have your ultimate as you should win them everytime since his abilities basically hurt him and you have consistent damage and his level one ultimate hardly heals anything especially if you have an executioners calling. Also block him from farming cannon minions by tanking his cleavers.
My tips for this matchup: #1 run PTA and start doran's blade. #2 don't let her proc vitals for free early, if she does trade back auto attacks. #3 You can predict her Q'ing to a vital and use your E where she is going to Q to making it very easy to land your E without her parrying it. #4 If you're going for an E on her, try to be as close as possible so it's hard for her to parry, DO NOT go for max range E's as they're very easy for her to react to. #5 Hug walls when she uses her ultimate on you making it impossible for her to proc the last vital of her ultimate. #6 Buy some form of grevious wounds, I go executioners if I'm even or ahead, and bramble if I fall behind.
Gangplank is fairly annoying because he can cleanse your ultimate with his fruit so you'll want to save your ultimate until after he fruits, people say Gangplank is a hard counter to Urgot but he never usually kills me solo in this matchup he is just annoying and safe which makes it hard to get any type of lead, you can auto and use your W to clear his barrels quickly, early lane is also kind of hard so don't get chunked out to much by eating to many free Q's.
You want to push garen in to his turret as much as possible early laning phase as long as they don't have a good early game jungler, because it's pretty hard to actually kill him early but you outscale very hard. if you see him charge Q simply run away until it runs out or E away, garen is very easy to kite so he shouldn't be a problem for you. once you have W max + Black cleaver you just shred him with your W.
Gnar is not a bad matchup for Urgot at all since we're ranged as well, and Urgot is just simply stronger in the laning phase, rush a ninja tabi in this matchup and gnar has no kill pressure as long as you play around his mega and don't go near walls or try to all in him while he is in mega. This lane is all about looking for all ins when he is in his mini form (and not close to transforming into mega) and dodging his boomerangs as well as trying to not let him get his third W procs often, if you hit an E on him you should win every trade, if he E's away then simply q him and chase him down.
Gragas top is actually fairly strong early laning so be careful, although not many people play this champion top lane anymore a gragas main is scary early game, once you have a bit of magic resist and HP items as well as your W max though this matchup becomes very easy since he doesn't have the burst to kill you and you can win long trades as well.
Hecarim top is also pretty rare these days but it can be decent still, the biggest thing in this matchup is DO NOT be low HP when he hits level 6, and by low HP i mean even around 50%-65% even if you have to use TP to heal just do it, the reason being is almost every hecarim runs ignite and they try to look for an all in at 6 with ignite and ultimate, other then this just be poking him constantly in this lane since hecarim has to all in to do any damage and be very careful of the ignite threat.
Heimer is just simply annoying in my experience, very hard to kill him early but he also shouldn't kill you, he's going to just be pushing you in 24/7 so try calling for jungle help pre 6 before he gets his big turret. Try your best to push in this lane and atleast keep it in the middle of the lane, if you ever land an E on him you should be able to kill him quickly in one full combo, but do be careful of stopwatch/zhyonas which they usually get early since their turrets can do the work for them.
This matchup can be annoying since Urgot hitbox is so big it's easy for her to hit her E's. Try your best to dodge her E's and if you dodge them you'll want to go in for a trade, another thing against illaoi is if she does hit her E you can sometimes bait her ultimate out by walking in and out of the range and kiting her. executioners calling can be a good help in this mathup since illaoi does have a fair amount of healing and they usually always build death's dance. Playing against Illaoi is basically like a minigame of how well you can dodge things.
Be careful against Irelia's level 1 and 2 as her auto attack range is really high and most of them try to all in at level 2 especially if they can hit their E, you always want to pay attention to Irelia's stacks from her Q and do not trade when she has a high amount of stacks, you'll also want to punish her with Q's and auto attacks whenever she goes to Q a minion, you can also predict this and E to a minion you think she is going to Q to which can be good if you want a kill, although this can be risky if she doesn't Q then your E will be on cooldown for a bit and you have to play safe, overall most irelias are the same they try to push in once they get tiamat and they try to all in with ultimate at 6 after they get a few passive stacks, Irelia is never really an issue for me as Urgot unless she somehow gets fed.
From the few J4's I've played against top I've won the lane early and outscaled them hard, he has no sustain so you can simply poke him down and look for all ins, once you get items he can't keep up with your consistent damage and J4 is mostly all burst damage so he isn't good against tankier champions so you just simply win in my experience.
Hard matchup if the jax is good, I recommend going PTA in this lane and playing for the early game because he is very squishy early, the big things against jax is you don't want to fight him if he gets his passive stacked up on minions first so don't let him do that on minion waves, and the other big thing is his counterstrike blocks your W, so in this matchup I like to E into his counterstrike right when I think he is going to release it, to do this you have to first bait his counterstrike out first with auto attacks which most of them will do, and then just E into him right as it's going off (they can activate it early so you have to judge the timing) and then you can trade with W, overall this matchup isn't too bad unless the jax is really good, you can be very agressive early on in this lane, and you will also outscale jax surprisingly now that spear of shojin is gone.
Jayce is pretty hard early game but the longer the game goes the easier this matchup gets, and since Urgot is ranged with a pretty safe kit (having an escape + shield) you should be able to survive, try not to trade with him very much early game and dodge his Q's the best you can. once you have Black cleaver + ninja tabis you should be able to win 1v1, you can also go Q max in this matchup if you're wanting to play more safe and just looking to poke him out of lane since you shouldn't be all inning or trading much early game.
Karma top is pretty hard to kill because they usually go tank and play super safe, but honestly she shouldn't kill you either, make sure you buy a Cull in this matchup so you can get a lead through farming, if you are able to get an E on her you can probably kill her, push her into turret really hard early as her waveclear isn't the best, you outscale her really hard so the lane might be somewhat annoying but the longer it goes the more you win.
Punish kayle very hard pre 6 because she is meele until then, seriously do not let her walk up to farm in this lane when she is meele because she basically isn't even a champion, once she gets 6 this matchup gets a lot harder because it gets extremely hard to get E's on her, but you can sometimes still bait her in to fight and get the surprise E if you make it look like you're running away and then turn on her really quickly, her ultimate also denies your ultimate but you should try to time the pull to avoid that because she can't R while she is being pulled, so if she R's early just wait a little bit before you press R again to pull her, also sometimes you can just pull her anyway and then finish her off normally if your ultimate doesn't kill her. Kayle scales pretty hard as well in the splitpush so she is scary later, but you can still teamfight well against her.
Kennen is just annoying in lane and hard to kill but he shouldn't really kill you either, early merc treads can be good since he has a lot of CC, flash E can also secure you kills in this lane, but you probably won't be going for many normal E's unless he gets out of position or you bait him in well. Both champs scale pretty decently in teamfights but he can't do anything against your splitpush pressure in a sidelane so simply push him in and look for roams and tp plays in the mid game.
Surviving the early game is crucial in this matchup, first item ninja tabi helps a lot, don't try to kill kled early as you'll just get baited by his remount unless you have your E-W up with passives up as well, but that is pretty rare if you just dismounted him unless he is eating auto attacks, once you get level 6 is when you start to have kill pressure in this matchup, because you can actually kill him with your ultimate quite easily if you dismount him, keep in mind you can ultimate him while he is on mount and the ultimate will stay on him through the dismount. Overall just be cautious early game and don't eat his Q's and you'll outscale him hard, once you get 9+ this matchup is easy.
Push malphite in early game as much as possible as it's hard for him to farm under turret early game, Malphite also just has no kill pressure on you early game and bad waveclear so this should be easy, it's hard to kill malphite until you get black cleaver unless he messes up really bad, Also remember you can flash his ultimate. Basically we outscale Malphite really hard because of our passive + black cleaver + conqueror, and you should be able to build up a nice CS lead in laning phase, also Cull can be nice in this matchup since we're trying our hardest to scale in this matchup.
Similar to most tanks for Urgot, scaling matchup where you can't do too much to punish him early, I recommend building Cull on first back. Once you have Black Cleaver you can start to extended fight him more, once you get death's dance as well you should just destroy him.
Levels 1-3 you can win this matchup really hard because his cooldowns are high and his passive doesn't do much damage yet, after that levels 4-9 are pretty challenging unless you got a lead early, I usually start Doran's Blade in this matchup for the early game power and sustain, and if they have atleast one other AP on the team I will rush a maw or hexdrinker into death's dance, if they're heavy AP just rush maw first item and you will win the matchup once you have it, also executioners calling can be a great buy in this lane because he heals with his W but also a bunch from his conqureor and domination synergy with his passive. Levels 9+ I feel this matchup gets a lot easier as long as you're not behind. Another thing I dislike heavily about this matchup is he can pull you away in teamfights and stop you from getting big ultimates off.
His early game is so weak this lane should be a breeze for you, another great thing about this matchup is his wither does not affect your W at all since it's a fixxed rate of fire, I personally like to build Cull in this matchup since you can get away with it, early on I push him into turret, but at lvl 6 onwards I like to try to keep the wave on my side of lane to make him come up to CS and then punish him, you only really have to be kinda scared when he uses his ultimate especially if he is running conqueror so sometimes I'll save my E and bait out his R by walking into him then just E away and wait for his ultimate to drop before reengaging. You outscale him hard and should be able to do way more in teamfights.
Push him in early and you'll slowly outscale him since he is purely a tank. Also as with other tank matchups consider getting a Cull to generate a lead through farming since it should be easy to farm in this matchup, as with other tanks Nautilus cannot answer your splitpush later once you have black cleaver and Death's Dance, or even just black cleaver really.
This matchup is simply annoying, try your best to dodge her E since it's quite a long root and allows her to follow up with the rest of her combo, also remember If Tangle-Barbs (her E) hits at least one enemy, it grows in size and speed, and the root duration is increased. So it can be smart to play outside of your minion wave and not give her those free angles, if it's AP neeko which most are now once you have some magic resist this matchup gets a lot easier, you can also save your E to get out of her R since she stops when she goes up in the air and you have a bit of time to get out of the circle.
Just survive the early game against Olaf and you outscale him. If you get hit by an axe simply just E away because he will chain axe chase you down, be very careful early game in this matchup and wait until you have W maxxed and some items, also it's very important to keep in mind YOU CANNOT pull him in with your ultimate while he is in his ultimate since he cannot be disabled so it's a good idea to save your ultimate until after he uses his. As long as he doesn't snowball early you win mid and late game.
Honestly Ornn is my permaban champion right now because this matchup is just annoying and boring, He will rush Tabi and bramble/thornmail, so you really can't do much in the early game, go Cull and scale up, if you aren't to far behind you can kill him once you have Black Cleaver and Death's Dance but it will still take quite a bit of time, this is just a scaling matchup but he also buffs up his teamates later so he's a lot better then other tanks, other then that try to help your team out with teleport in this lane and farm up with your Cull. I should note you can sometimes kill him levels 1-3 if he is playing agressive and before he starts to stack armor.
Pantheon is really only a problem in the early lane, start Doran's shield or corruption potion if you aren't comfortable in this matchup, once you get to level 9+ you simply just win 1v1 so hard vs this champion, I like to save my E for when he shields in this matchup if I can so he wastes his shield. You can also try to move behind him when he shields to still get damage off.
Poppy has a surprising amount of damage for a tank because of her Q so try your best to dodge her Q's, She's also pretty hard to actually punish early game so we have to play the scaling game against her, try your best to push in early and get an early Cull, you can also use your E when she throws her passive at you to shield the damage. VERY IMPORTANT against poppy that you DO NOT play near the walls or cliffs in top lane, if you give her a stun in the wall you will lose the trade very hard. Don't stress too much about getting fed early in this lane as you do outscale just try your best to CS and survive and punish her when you can, once you get level 9 and have your W maxed you can look for longer trades, but remember her Q has a % HP scaling so that will always hurt. Her W also blocks your E so keep in that in mind, sometimes you can bait it out by getting her to use it for the movement speed then go for the E, another thing to keep in mind is if you use your E right as she knocks you away with her R it will actually buffer it and you won't go flying really far away and can just kill her (I'll show a video example of this down below) Other then that don't play near walls and don't get chunked by her passive and just wait for items to outscale her in the splitpush.
I rush ninja tabi in this matchup, also starting doran's shield or corruption pot is good here. basically if you hit an E on her she is pretty much dead or loses the trade hard, E flash can also secure kills in this matchup pretty easily, very early lane can be kind of hard but once you get some levels and items this matchup seems to just be easy and you outscale her extremely hard in teamfights.
Although this matchup is quite rare some people do pick it as a counterpick, just try to bait out his W before using your W, I like to build Cull and Black cleaver in this matchup since it's mostly a farm lane, you can also try to make tp plays as well as pushing him in and roaming since his waveclear is awful, make sure you don't get taunted into turret when pushing in, overall this is more of a farm lane just don't 1v1 him until you get cleaver and sometimes even deaths dance.
Yorick is actually a pretty hard matchup for urgot, Remember that your W kills his ghouls super quickly, whenever he walls you in you want to auto attack it and try to kill it ASAP, also try to kill his maiden if he is careless with how he positions it, if he has his maiden out this matchup is hard, but the cooldown is very long on it so while it's down you should try to punish him, yorick also has an insanely weak early game so do not let him farm at all early. Both champs scale very well and you'll probably have to answer his splitpush a lot in the game so build for that. he also does a lot of mixxed damage so death's dance is a great option, executioners calling is a great but as well if he is running conqueror rune.
Sett is kind of similar to darius, really hard to do much until level 9 in this matchup but it's also easier to survive then darius, basically don't take bad trades often early because his regen is ridiculous early game and you don't have the tools to extended fight him early on, make sure not to stand in the middle of his W, if he has a lot of grit built up then constantly be moving around so you don't get falcon punched, you can also E him to fling him behind you when he W's but you have to predict and anticipate it. You can sometimes get a kill with your ultimate in this matchup if he ever uses his W poorly but just be careful with trading, ninja tabi is also a great buy early against this champion because he autos a lot and you can kite him a lot with the MS. Another thing to note is you can E buffer his E so you can E right before he E's to instantly get away when he pulls you in.
Annoying matchup early, his blind works against your W so I reccomend waiting for him to use his blind for poke and then all in him right after it wears off, Doran's shield start is also great in this matchup, basically once you get your ultimate if you land E's on him he is dead, you are also way more useful in splitpushing and team fighting so keep that in mind no matter how poorly you do in lane. early spectres cowl can be a good buy if you're struggling in this lane.
Vlad is pretty safe but this lane should be in your favor, I like to get an early executioners calling in this matchup and play really agressive early because vlad sucks early game, a lot of vlads will try to use their empowered Q on you and walk up for that, so that's when you want to go for E's on him, you can tell when he gets empowered Q by the bar below his health bar when it turns yellow that means it's close and then it will turn red is when he has his empowered Q so it's fairly easy to predict. You want to try to get him to use his pool before you use your ultimate in this matchup since it's extremely easy to pool, you can usually bait out his pool with your E and if he doesn't pool your E then he will have to pool shortly after because he will take a ton of damage. Basically punish this matchup early, vlad scales really well into teamfights and will most likely do more then you so splitpushing is also a great option here.
Another hard laning phase that you start to outscale hard at 9+, early ninja tabi is highly reccomended in this lane since a lot of his damage comes from auto attacks, if they're running conqueror then an executioners calling once you get a bit tanky is great or brambles vest if you're behind, You really want to keep an eye on his fury and be careful trading when he is high fury (50+) the bar under his HP bar is his fury. if he ultimates in this matchup then I will usually just disengage and wait it out, his empowered W also negates your shield on E so you should be careful with your E in this matchup, once you get level 9+, ninja tabi, black cleaver, executioners calling, you should win in the splitpush and do much more in teamfights, basically just be careful extended fighting him when he has ultimate up and fury built up and you should be ok in this matchup.
One of the harder tanks for Urgot to deal with since his W blocks your W, with that being said as long as you play around shens Q I don't think this matchup is too hard, just don't eat his auto attacks when he has Q active because that's his main source of damage, just turn off your W when he has his W on and you can also try to fling him out of the circle or just fling him to buy time, you can use your E to cancel his R teleport if he ever uses it near you, if you can't get in range then I recommend throwing your ultimate on him so he is slowed upon arrival, you can also match his ultimate with a teleport of your own or just try to trade lots of turret platings, make sure you're pushing when he makes teleport plays, also pushing him in can also make it harder for him to get off those teleport plays because he will have to worry about losing more resources for himself. Cull is a nice early buy in this matchup, once you get black cleaver + death's dance you outscale him extremely hard.
This matchup is a really big pain, although urgot is ranged he is very short ranged so you struggle with getting kited here, I run PTA and build death's dance first for damage, if she ever gets out of position or wastes her condem you can try to hit and E on her, but most of the time you will probably have to E flash and R her right away on your E stun to get kills in this matchup, hopefully you will also get jungle help in this matchup since vayne is fairly easy to gank and will be pushing you in most likely, just don't try to trade with her very often early, and try to look for windows to one combo her.
Similar to Vayne and other ranged top laners, this matchup is also very annoying, and lucian is extremely strong early lane, I go doran's shield start in this lane and just try to survive early on, it's almost impossible to hit an E normally because he can just reaction E away very easily when he sees your windup for E, so again you'll have to E-Flash to secure kills in this matchup. Ninja tabi is a great early buy because he auto attacks a ton with the double auto passive, Bramble or exectioners calling is also recommended since they rush botrk. Overall annoying lane but you do outscale him hard in teamfights and hopefully you get some jungle help since he will be pushing a lot early.
Start Doran's Blade in this matchup, This matchup is fairly easy for urgot since hitting E should be easy for you with him being meele, plus a lot of sylas players will try to E in on you and then you can just E them and kill him, Executioners calling is recommended in this matchup since he heals a ton with W and they usually run conqueror, I just go for trades whenever my E is up in this matchup and it's smooth sailing, if you miss E then just back off until it's back up. and try your best to dodge his Q's as well. If he steals your ultimate try your best to either dodge it or kill him first, if you guys both ult at the same time, whoever gets the other person low enough first for the pull wins.
Very easy matchup for Urgot, Singed just doesn't have the damage to kill you especially once you get some lifesteal, early on be very agressive because most singed players will try to push the first 3 waves and then get a recall, so you want to pressure him and make this hard for him to do, I always buy a Cull in this matchup since some singed players will just start proxying the wave and this makes cull an insanely good value buy. Another thing to keep in mind is your E can buffer his fling so you can still fling him even if he e's you which I will show a video of down below in the E buffer examples. Overall singed doesn't have the damage to kill Urgot and once you get lifesteal there's nothing he can do so be agressive in this lane, especially once you get your W toggle, and don't let him push waves for free.
This matchup difficulty really depends on the riven player but I personally love this matchup, I start doran's blade always and play aggressive early, try to bait out rivens shield by auto attacking her and then go in for the E, also if she engages onto you it's very easy to hit your E, rivens are super telegraphed because of their kit. I play really aggressive pre 6 in this matchup and can usually get kills before then, level 6 is when you have to watch out because her burst with ultimate can be insane, if you haven't backed and have a lot of unspent gold or you're just low on HP I recommend backing and getting some HP because she can burst you from like 75% HP if you aren't careful and she's good at comboing, but you also have potential to outplay her but flashing her second part of ultimate. once you get cleaver and ninja tabi + level 9 you should almost always win the 1v1 unless you missplay, just remember try to bait out her E first with auto attacks because they will use it to shield auto attacks a lot.
One of my least favorite matchups, thankfully he is low playrate. Try to win pre 6 in this matchup and be really agressive because tryndamere is not good early, anytime he is low rage you should pretty much trade with him and you want to be auto attacking him a lot early game because if he spins in on you then you just land E and kill him. Once he gets his ultimate it's a good counter to your ultimate since he survive the execution with it and it also auto pulls him in so you can't time it, so you either want to use your ultimate as a kiting tool in this matchup for the slow, or try to time it to where you can pull him and buy a few seconds of time or time it perfectly and kill him after kiting him around in his ultimate for a little bit. Semi early ninja tabi usually after phage is great in this matchup. Early randuins omen as second item can also be great and the active can help you with kiting and stalling him.
Wukong matchup can really go either way, early on he is pretty hard to punish, try to save your E until after he uses his clone and try not to use your Q on the clone or else your W will target that. early ninja tabi is really good in this matchup, once you get ninja tabi + black cleaver you should just win extended trades from there on out. if they're building into blade of the ruined king and running conqueror then you can also go for a executioners calling or bramble vest.
Rumble is a hard matchup early if the person is good, Try to E into him right as his flamethrower is running out so he can't use that to trade back, second item adaptive helm is also reccomended in this matchup, level 9+ this matchup gets a lot easier and you can take extended fights against him, try to hide in minion wave to dodge his E's and you can also make him push the wave if you stay in your minion wave when he Q's you. Start doran's shield and build early spectres cowl if you're struggling a lot in this matchup, because you should outscale him later.
Keep in mind sions like to start in the lane bushes and try to get an early cheesey Q off so don't go near them. Similar to other tanks where he is hard to punish early but not a very difficult matchup, just more of a scaling matchup, try to have good movement against sion and dodge his Q's and R's as they're super predictable, you can also use your E to fling him out of his Q if you predict he is going to charge it up, remember if you're going to win the fight against sion to walk in front of where he wants to ultimate so he can't escape, you can also flash into his ultimate to cancel him from escaping. Cull is also a great early option again here since it's another scaling matchup, once you have Black Cleaver you should be trying to force fights, and especially once you get death's dance you should 100% win.
Pretty hard matchup since he is so slippery, not only that but his windwall blocks your Ultimate projective and also the chain pulling people in, so it blocks both parts of your ultimate, With this being said he has to use his windwall early in the fight especially if you land E on him and you can usually dance around it and wait it out to combo him, try your best to punish him early because he isn't very strong until he gets items, early ninja tabi can be good in this matchup as well as randuins omen second or third item, since most yasuo's will get 100% crit making randuins omen super value. Playing around the windwall and saving your ultimate for it to wear off is really the key thing in this matchup.
Although kind of hard to hit E's in this matchup I find ryze to be pretty easy because of how weak he is early game he shouldn't really ever kill you, and if you do ever land E he is 100% dead but you may have to flash E to land them in this matchup, try to land your Q first and you can sometimes get in ranged to E him, other then that ryze loves to perma push the wave so try not to let him do that for free on you try to pressure him and push the wave back as much as possible, they will usually use their combo to push which means some of their combo will be down if you trade with them. Adaptive helm second or third item can be good in this matchup especially if it's good for the overall game, although ryze scales good, you still scale really good also.
This matchup is really annoying and pretty similar to other mage top lanes where it's hard to land your E, but because of her ultimate stunning you and her W grounding you making it to where you can't E, it can be a little bit harder to kill Casseiopeia, I like to go doran's shield and second wind in this matchup, and second item adaptive helm can be very strong in this matchup as well, early merc treads are also a great option. My best tip is to try to turn away when you think she is going to ultimate you to avoid the stun, you'll also have to have your W off when you do this, if you avoid her stun from ultimate you should be able to get an E on her if you land Q and pickup a kill. E flash can also secure you kills in this matchup.
Malzahar is nice syngery with Urgot because his ultimate locks down a target giving you a free ultimate, even if it may seem like a free kill without your ultimate it can give you a free pull which can be huge to engage into a teamfight with, if it's just a random pick with malzahar ultimate and it looks like the person is going to die and there are no other enemies nearby then I wouldn't ultimate them, but if theres a good opportunity to get a big fear then you should definitely ultimate the stun locked person.
Karthus is nice because he can get a target into the threshhold for you to pull them and execute with your ultimate, this combo is pretty crazy because you can literally kill somebody from half HP with your ultimate, also if you see a karthus ultimate going down on somebody but it doesn't look like it's going to kill them but it wil get them low you can just throw your ultimate at em to finish em off, because sometimes karthus is ulting to kill somebody else but it will get another person low.
One of my absolute favorite supports to have with Urgot, insanely good engage, and lockdown so to help you land ultimates.
pretty good engage, and great lockdown, your W synergizes with his passive really well so you can stun people super quickly.
Another great engage support, also her CC and lockdown is absurd, makes teamfighting very easy.
I feel like Yuumi paired with most toplaners that normally have trouble getting kited and sticking on people is absoloutely insane, and the same goes for urgot, you can get everywhere and land E's easily in a teamfight if yuumi is inside you because her speed boost + heal is ridiculously good, and she can also slow targets for you and shield you, this combo is actually crazy and can 2v5 teamfights.
Another mid laner I love to have on my team since she has a ton of lockdown, and also a pretty good engage if she's confident.
Probably my favorite jungler to have because of her ability to engage and lockdown targets, everytime sej ganks top lane I feel we get the kill because it's so easy to land my ultimate, and the same goes for teamfights.

Urgot is one of the safest top laners you can pick right now. This is due to him being ranged and also being tanky/safe due to his shield and having an escape built into one ability. He doesn't really having any hard counters, which also makes him a great blind pick. He can be a massive play maker in teamfights due to his ultimate. He doesn't fall off late game because of the use of Conqueror combined with his W- Purge which lasts until you toggle it off now.
If you like juggernaut style champions that do a decent amount of damage and can make plays while being tanky then you should give Urgot a try.
Difficulty - 6/10 I don’t think Urgot is super hard to learn but I do think like most champs he is pretty difficult to master. He does have a few skill shots which are crucial to land. And learning how to play around your passive Echoing Flames, which is your shotgun knees, can be challenging to pay attention to. Mechanically I don’t think Urgot is very intensive because a lot of the time you’ll have your W- Purge toggled on. However, you will need to think about how to land your skillshots and get effective fears off in teamfights.
Fun Factor - 9/10 This rating is obviously pretty subjective but I find Urgot really fun and extremely satisfying to play especially when you can make good ultimate plays or a cool E- Disdain Flash play. It can also be a lot of fun watching your W- Purge + passive Echoing Flames shred everyone in a teamfight.
Viability - 8/10 Urgot is definitely viable at the time of making this guide. Although I wouldn’t put him in the very top tier, I would put him directly under it. Urgot is also an extremely good blind pick because of how safe he is. The only reason I take off a few points here is because it can be hard to carry at times.
Laning Phase - 8/10 Urgot has a very safe laning phase because you’re ranged which allows you to poke and be safe while also being fairly tanky. On top of this you have a mobility spell which shields you if you’re really in trouble.
Teamfighting - 7/10 Urgot's teamfighting can be very strong if you’re able to get a good pull and then flash fear into their whole team. However if you miss your ultimate or don’t have flash up it can be somewhat tricky to be very impactful. I definitely recommend Righteous Glory for being able to get into teamfights. This will also help you get a good ultimate off. If you don’t have flash up you can Righteous Glory as you’re pulling somebody in with your ultimate. I’d also recommend to try to ultimate whoever get’s CC’d in a teamfight so you’re guaranteed to hit your ultimate. Urgot does really well with teams that can lock people down. For example if you have a Lissandra on your team, she can ultimate someone and then you are guaranteed to hit your ultimate and simply run in. If someone on the enemy team is going to die I always recommend ulting them because if you can get a big fear off that is far more important then saving your ultimate to kill an important carry. The reason being is because if you can fear a squishy target all you have to do is E them and you can usually just kill them with your W- Purge as you circle around them and get your passive shots off.

+ Great 1v1 dueling.

+ Decent engage.
- Abilities are skillshots.
- Can be kited if you don't have flash up.
- Can be item dependent in some games.
- Hard to carry some games if your team is doing poorly.
At these early levels you will usually be slowly pushing the wave since your Passive Echoing Flames will proc when you last hit minions. You can try to angle this to also hit the enemy champion when you go to hit a minion. You will want to ward early because of this usually sometime around 2:45-3:00 minutes. Sometimes if I don’t want to push, I just try not to proc my Passive Echoing Flames by autoing in a direction that is already proc’d and on cooldown.
You really shouldn’t be going in for any risky E- Disdain’s this early in the laning phase unless for some reason you poked them down a lot already. Mostly you will only want to use your W- Purge if they’re going in to trade with you.
The second buy that you can go is 1250 gold and that is straight up a Phage. This is good in match-ups where you need the extra movement speed for kiting and when it’s also too greedy to get Cull. Because this item is better for surviving, this is especially good against champions like Darius.
These are some useful tips or weird interactions I’ve found after playing Urgot for awhile.
