[Patch 13.21] My Veigar's Build (All Matchups)

By V1kt0r555
Introduction
Hello everyone and welcome to "My Veigar's Build" guide. I am EUNE League of Legends player and my name in game is Hektor Ulmer (not my real life name, it's just what I added). My rank in other account was Diamond III, but I don't remember my old account name because I took a break from the game for a several years but I really don't mind that and now I created new account to play for fun, nothing else.

My favourite champion in game is Viktor but I also love to play Veigar as well. I play many roles but my best role is Mid and Top lane. I am going to show you why Veigar is the best scalling stacking mage champion to play. If you don't wanna read my guide and if you are only interested on items, that is fine for me because I created this guide for any players who wants to play Veigar to get better in ranked or to play him just for fun. :)
Why play Veigar?
Abilities

Veigar - The Tiny Master of Evil
Ranged Mage Burst Champion
Damage Type: Magic
Mid Lane: Strong
Difficulty to play: Easy

Veigar is a stacking scaling mage champion and a scary monster in late game if he is well farmed with his insane burst, strong CC stun thanks to his Event Horizon. He struggles against most of the champions in mid lane but once he has few items and have more than 100 stacks with Phenomenal Evil Power, he can easily delete squishy targets or even just use Primordial Burst once you are full build. From my experience, let me show you everything you need to know and how to play Veigar.
When to pick Veigar?

If you want to play Veigar then pay attention what their enemy team has picked in mid lane. If you are facing easier lane such as Seraphine Twisted Fate, Zilean or any champions that don't have any kill pressure on you, then you can safely pick Veigar.

If you saw that their enemy player picked like Ahri, Anivia, Orianna or any other mages, then you can also pick Veigar comfortably. Against mages, you should play safe early and farm as much as possible and after several items, you can begin to fight them.

However, I highly not suggest to pick Veigar against assassins such as Fizz, Kassadin, Zed or any other assassins unless if you are very professional with Veigar. These assassins are pretty nightmare for Veigar because they can always outdamage you early game and outplay you if they are good players. So it is wise to avoid pick Veigar.
Pros/Cons
Pros

+Good waveclear with his Dark Matter
+Can farm safely with his Baleful Strike
+His Event Horizon has a long stun duration
+Ridicilous burst late game champion
+His Primordial Burst can one shot squishy in late game
+Pretty easy to play with
+Becomes monster in late game once he is well farmed and has full items
+He is evil yordle :)

Veigar becomes monster late game once he is well farmed and has full items. He can destroy entire team if the enemy team gets caught by his Event Horizon and he can cast Dark Matter to deal massive damage. He can just cast Baleful Strike and Primordial Burst to kill squishy target or even just use ultimate if the enemy doesn't have any magic resist items. Veigar is just ridicilous burst mage in late game and he does great in teamfights with his Event Horizon and enemy team should be worry about him once he is full build.
Cons

-Like all other mages, he is squishy
-Weak early game
-A lot of bad matchups
-Weak against assassins
-Not good against tanky team especially if they build a lot of Magic Resist items
-Very immobile
-His Event Horizon is the only escape ability
-Hard to catch mobile enemies with Event Horizon
-Can be mana hungry early if he spams a lot
-Easily focused in teamfights
-Very Weak if he is behind

Unfortunately, Veigar has many weaknesses. He is squishy like other mages, has a lot of bad matchups that counters Veigar if they play correctly. He is also fairly easy to gank Veigar since he is very immobile and his Event Horizon is the only escape ability. Veigar can be useless in late game if he is not well farmed with his Baleful Strike therefore he won't do much once he is behind. In teamfights, enemy team will defenitely focus Veigar and if they managed to kill him, they will win the game for sure. :(
Summoner Spells
FLASH
Flash is the most important spell in the game. It helps you from escaping nasty situations and also for chasing and killing enemies whenever you can't reach them. Always take this every game!
TELEPORT
Teleport is very good spell on Veigar. It teleports you back on tower once you first recall and bought items and after 14 minutes, you can then use on wards, minions, and other things. Take this on almost any matchups.
BARRIER
This is a MUST spell against burst champions such as LeBlanc. Since Veigar is pretty weak early and squishy champion, it helps you to survive early and it has a pretty low cooldown and it is good against champions who has Ignite. Make sure to use rune Cosmic Insight to reduce it cooldown.
EXHAUST
This spell helps a lot against champions that has burst damage or reliesing on autoattacking a lot such as Yasuo, Yone etc. Having Exhaust makes great 1 vs 1 dueling but take this spell only if your ADC or Support doesn't have.
IGNITE
If you are against healing champion such as Sylas or Vladimir, then this spell is good to go. I would not recommended to take as Veigar since you have a lot of burst in late game and ignite is not useful in late game.
CLEANSE
If the enemy team has a lot of CC, then Cleanse is a must have. I usually take against heavy CC mid such as Annie or Zoe. It also removes Ignite damage but not healing reduction so keep in that mind.
GHOST
Ghost on Veigar? Sure, why not. Veigar lacks of mobility especially on escaping situations. Combining together with Ghost and Predator, you will be able to chase enemy champions so fast that they won't be able to survive or escape.
Runes

Keystone

Tier 1

  • Magical Footwear gives you free boots at 12 minutes of less for each takedown b 45 seconds. This rune is good so you don't have to buy early boots.

biscuit delovery

Tier 2

  • Biscuit Delivery gives you free Biscuit every 2 minutes up to 3 times. With this, you will permamently gain some mana and you will be able to stay in your lane for a bit longer.

Tier 3

  • Cosmic Insight grants you cooldown reduction on Summoner Spells and Items as well. This is great as you will be able to spam it much more often.

Tier 1

  • Manaflow Band gives you free 25 mana up to 250 whenever you deal damage to your enemy with your abilities. Once you reach maximum, it will restore your mana based on your missing mana.

Tier 2

  • Transcendence gives you cooldown reduction upon reaching levels. Having lower cooldowns means you can spam more abilities very often.

Take Ability Haste for CDR so you can spam your abilities more often and Adaptive for damage. For defense, take magic resist against easier AP matchups.

Same goes from above but with armor against AD matchups.

This is where you wanna take double magic resist against hard AP matchups such as Fizz, LeBlanc etc.

This is where you wanna take double armor against hard AD matchups especially against assassins where they can burst you down quickly such as Talon, Zed etc.

If you are not sure who is going to be your opponent in mid lane for example if their enemy team has Ekko and Irelia and one of them can be mid, then take for defense health.

The next Rune page shows you some difference. You should take this if you are against free matchups where they don't have a kill pressure on you:

Tier 1

  • Future's Market is really great to buy Items much earlier. The longer game goes on, the debt increases over time.

Now the next one shows you First Strike with Resolve meaning that you should take this against hard matchups especially against assassins. Shield Armor or Tenacity and Slow Resist Magic reist depending on matchup, you always take double. Take Overgrowth for scaling health or Unflinching if the enemy team has a lot of slows or CC:

Tier 2

  • Perfect Timing gives you free Stopwatch once it reaches 14 minutes or 2 munutes less each takedown. This Rune can help you to avoid some deadly ultimates such as against Fizz or Zed.

Tier 1

  • Bone Plating is very good against any assassins or burst champions who deal a lot of damage. With this Rune, it will help you to receive less damage from attacks or spells. This is where you should defenitely get against Fizz or Zed.

Tier 2

  • Overgrowth helps you to increase your health permamently. Each essence from monsters or minions that die near you, you will gain small amount of health permamently. You also gain an additional maximum health when you absorbed at least 120 monsters or minions.

Tier 2

  • Unflinching gives you tenacity and slow resistence. The lower your health is, the more tenacity and slow resistence is increased. This is good if the enemy team has too much CC.

Now there will be some situational Rune pages that can be also useful For Veigar:

Keystone

  • Arcane Comet is situational choice for Veigar especially if you are against long ranged champions. Unlike First Strike, it doesn't put on cooldown when the enemy champion has dealt damage to you. If you feel that you can't use First Strike where you can't damage enemy champions that outranges you, then this Keystone is good to go.

Tier 3

  • Gathering Storm increases your AD or AP (depending which champion you play) every 10 minutes. This is very good on scaling mages such as Veigar where you will be able to deal more damage in late game.

Keystone

Tier 1

Tier 2

  • Eyeball Collection gives you free AD or AP (depending which champion you play) for each champion takedown up to 10 times. After you have reached maximum, it will give you an additional bonus AD or AP.

Tier 3

  • Ultimate Hunter grants you cooldown reduction on your Ultimate on each enemy champion takedown for the first time.

Keystone

  • Predator was really strong last years ago but now it was slightly nerfed and almost no one is using it. You should not use this anymore as it isn't good anymore on Veigar.

Tier 3

  • Ingenious Hunter grants you cooldown reduction on your activate Items on each enemy champion takedown for the first time.

Keystone

  • Dark Harvest can be good on Veigar since this Keystone gives you more power whenevr you deal damage to an enemy champions below 50%. Each takedown, you will be able to gain power again but however, you will have to wait for 45 seconds if you didn't manage to get takedown.

Tier 3

  • Relentless Hunter grants you out of combat movement speed on each enemy champion takedown for the first time.

Other Viable Runes:

For Inspiration:

  • Minion Dematerializer gives you free 3 items that permamently kill any minion. You should use it on canon minion so you don't have a hard time to last hit them.

For Sorcery:

  • Nimbus Cloak gives you bonus movement speed when you cast a Summoner Spell. The higher cooldown of Summoner Spell is, the more movement speed you gain.

For Domination:

  • Treasure Hunter gives you free gold on each enemy champion takedown for the first time.

For Resolve:

  • Conditioning gives you armor and magic resist after 12 minutes and also increases your armor and magic resist by 4%. This is good for scaling making you a bit tankier.

For Precision:

  • Presence of Mind gives you mana regeneration when you damage an enemy champion. When on takedown, it restores your mana. This rune can help if you spam a lot of your abilites and go aggressive.

Always put point at lvl 1 Baleful Strike. This is the most important skill as you will stack with your passive and farm easily. Lvl 2, you can put point at Dark Matter or Event Horizon depending on what champion are you playing against or what really suits you. After you maxed your Baleful Strike, your second Ability Event Horizon should be maxed next as it will increase your stun duration up to maximum 2.5 seconds which is ridicilously high. Finally, Dark Matter is last maxed as it reduces it's cooldown the more stacks you have. Lvl 6, 11 and 16, always put point on Primordial Burst.
Items

Starting Items:

DORAN'S RING
A standard item for any the mages. It gives you Ability Power, Health and a passive that restores mana when you damage an enemy champion. Take this against easier and safe matchups.

TEAR OF THE GODDESS
Buy this if you want to rush early Archangel's Staff. This item will help you to spam your abilities more often and you will be able to stay in your lane for much longer since Veigar has usually mana problems early. This is good start especially if you are playing against manaless champions such as Katarina, Yasuo etc.

DARK SEAL
Only buy this if you are extremely good player and you think you can snowball hard. Some players actually buy this when first recall so they get a chance to gain some AP after getting takedown. I don't usually buy this item on this champion but if you feel you need this item then go for it.

CORRUPTING POTION
Another good start that gives a lot of sustain. Since Veigar doesn't have any sustain abilities, it is good to stay in your lane in the early game against any enemy champions especialy against melee. This is where you wanna start against harder matchups that they are going to play aggresively against you.

SAPPHIRE CRYSTAL
Another viable start for Veigar especially for those who wants to rush early Lost Chapter. This item will help you to spam your abilities as you can stay in your lane for a bit longer. I usually don't start with this but it can help you to buy your first item faster when going to recall.

STEALTH WARD
You must ALWAYS start with Stealth Ward. It reveals surrounding area so you can see on the map if the enemy junglers comes to gank you or if enemy mid laners goes roaming. Later after the enemy or your tower in mid lane is destroyed you can keep it or you can buy Farsight Alteration or Oracle Lens depending what the enemy team comp looks like.

First Recall:

LOST CHAPTER
This Item is much cheaper now. It cost 1100 gold right now and you will be able to buy it much faster if you farm well in lane. You should from now on buy this if you are not planning to build Rod of Ages.

CATALYST OF AEONS
This item and Rod of Ages is back. It doesn't give you Ability Power but it gives you Health instead. Build this only if you are going for Rod of Ages. Don't build Lost Chapter together because Rod of Ages is also Mythic item and you won't be able to upgrade your Lost Chapter.

SEEKER'S ARMGUARD
If you are facing against AD assassins especially against harder matchups, then get it to survive their burst. Without that, you will be easily killed and they will start to snowball.

VERDANT BARRIER
If you are facing against AP burst, then this item will help you to survive. Later upgrade it into Banshee's Veil.

CONTROL WARD
Buy this often when you are going to recall. It will help you to reveal location and invisible wards so you can clean them. This also reveals invisible champions such as Twitch. Put it in the bush near enemy red buff, players often don't see there.

Mythic Items:

EVERFROST
This best Mythic Item is right now the bst choice for Veigar since it's much cheaper than any other Mythic Items. It helps you to catch enemy champions if they get caught in the middle of the range. Another good thing thought if enemy champion jumps on you, you can quickly activate it to root him and finish him off with your abilities. Very good Mythic Item escpecially if the enemy team has a lot of gap closers.

ROD OF AGES
Rod of Ages is back for beloved players! This item is currently strong right now especially for scaling mages such as Veigar. It gives you Ability Power, Health and Mana and each minute it increases your Ability Power, Health and Mana up to 10 times. After reaching max stacks, you will gain a level and it will improve your other passive that restores your Mana and Health upon taking damage from champions. This item is very good for many mages and AP bruisers but the downsides it slowly scales in late game and it's quite expensive. Buy this if you are planning to scale much better in late game and you also buy Archangel's Staff.

CROWN OF THE SHATTERED QUEEN
Another very good Mythic item on Veigar especially if the enemy team has a lot of burst. If you are laning against assassins or burst champions. then this will help you a lot in every stage of the game. Buy this if you are against harder matchups or if you really need a lot of protection.

LUDEN'S TEMPEST
If you are playing against a squishy enemy team, then this item is good to go because of the flat magic penetration passive. Most of the Veigar players build this mythic item even if the enemy team has a bruiser or tank. I rarely build this item because it doesn't scale into late game and players will start to build defensive items so don't build this item if they have a bruiser or a tank. Otherwise, it's your choice to buy it or not.

Boots:

SORCERER'S SHOES
My standard boots for almost every game. It gives you flat magic penetration which is good for early and mid game.

IONIAN BOOTS OF LUCIDITY
Very good for CDR. With these boots and summoner CDR, you will be able to spam abilities a lot.

PLATED STEELCAPS
If you feel you likely need more armor against AD opponent in your lane, then you can buy these boots to increase your armor.

MERCURY'S TREADS
If the enemy team has a lot of CC or that deals o lot of magic damage, then these boots are must to buy.

Core Items:

RABADON'S DEATHCAP
Probably the most important and ultimate scaling late game item that every mage buys. The passive gives you a massive increase of Ability Power. You can buy it after Mythic Item if you have a lot of gold and you are fed.

SERAPH'S EMBRACE
A late game upgraded item from Archangel's Staff that gives you Ability Power instead of Ability Haste since the patch of 13.1. It has a new passive that you gain a shield when your health reaches below 30%. This item is very good with Rod of Ages which makes you much more tougher and your enemies will likely have a hard time to kill you in late game.

ZHONYA'S HOURGLASS
This item will save you a lot especially against some ults such as Fizz Chum the Waters or Zed's Death Mark. As a Veigar player, you must buy this item in every single game to survive in teamfights, without that, you will be demolished. If you are against AD champion, then buy it after you have bought Mythic Item.

BANSHEE'S VEIL
This item grants you a spell shield that blocks any champion ability and it's very good against heavy AP team or against burst mages such as LeBlanc. Buy it if you think than you need more protection and they deal mostly a lot of magic damage.

VOID STAFF
If the enemy team buys Magic Resist Items, then this Item is a must buy. You can buy it earlier if you are for example against Galio as he will buy early Magic Resist Items to reduce your magic damage. This should be as a 5th or last 6th Item to buy.

Situational Items:

SHADOWFLAME
Buy this if they have a lot of shields and you think you can't burst your enemy that easily. This item is also good to buy if they don't have any tanks or bruisers and they are completely squishy.

MORELLONOMICON
This item is good if their enemy has a lot of team or if you are facing against healing champions such as Sylas, Vladimir etc.

COSMIC DRIVE
Another very good item on Veigar. It gives you bonus movement speed and ability power when using 3 basic attacks or abilities on enemy champions. Since Veigar is very immobile champion, this item will help you a lot.

RYLAI'S CRYSTAL SCEPTER
Since Veigar doesn't have any slow abilities, this item can come to handy as it gives you health for survivebility. Otherwise, take this if their enemy team is full of AD.

MEJAI'S SOULSTEALER
So you want to snowball? You wanna stack even more? Then this Item will make you pleased. But buy it only if you are very good player with Veigar and you think you will have an easy time against your opponent. Not recommended to buy in Ranked games.

Elixir:

ELIXIR OF SORCERY
If your build is full, then always buy Elixir of Sorcery. It is the best elixir for any mages. It gives your AP, Mana Regeneration and it has a passive that deals True Damage to the enemy champions and turrets.
Early Game
Early game, you should focus on farming with Baleful Strike for stacks with your Phenomenal Evil Power. Veigar is very weak early game and he can't trade any enemy champions before you get mythic item. If you are against ranged champions, it should be easier to farm with Baleful Strike due to your high safe range but if you are against melee champions like assassins, then play extremely safe and stay out of their range. If you can, you can miss out some cs if you think they can spam you. It is also best idea to let them push under your tower so they cannot harras you and they will be vulnerable to ganks. Your Event Horizon is extremely useful for your ganks, it creates a large threat to the enemy champion. If you get any takedown early, then you will be much safer and you will buy items much faster.

Once you have at least Lost Chapter, you can look for trading by using Event Horizon and then Dark Matter and Baleful Strike. It can be difficult to stun then since enemy will just stay inside or they will escape with their any kind of teleport ability but dashes do NOT work, it will stop them at the edge and they will be eventually stunned. If you are somehow behind especially against harder matchups do not worry, this is not the end of the game. You can still come back by focusing on farming and look for other objectives like dragons, towers etc and look for roaming other lanes. Once you have any mythic item, your full combo with your abilities should defenitely kill any squishy targets so always look for them. Make sure to always place Event Horizon before you can unleash your combo.
Mid Game
If you have at least 150 stacks from your passive, then you are good to go. However, that still doesn't mean you can win this game in you think you are strong. Enemy champions can still quickly kill you fast enough if you are not careful. You should still focus on farming with Baleful Strike to become much stronger in late game. Be sure to take down objectives such as dragons, towers etc. If you have finished mythic item, then you will become much stronger as you can takedown squishy champions with your abilities. Never go solo in other lanes and try to push. Veigar is extremely vulnerable and immobile and can be easily killed if you are going alone.

Be sure to stick with your teammates and not go first. It really depends when and how you will place your Event Horizon. If the enemy team gets stunned, you need to be very quick to cast Dark Matter and Baleful Strike and only use Primordial Burst who has the lowest health to delete him. It won't be easy but if you manage to do that, then you will eventually carry the game. Keep in mind that Event Horizon interrupts dashes, it'll zone off carries, and it'll make it easier for your teammates to navigate through the fight. If you are still struggling and thinking that enemy is going to engage on you, make sure to have both Zhonya's Hourglass and Banshee's Veil to survive in every stage of the game.
Late Game
Now this is where really depends how Veigar is stacked from his passive. However, if you are already almost full build and well farmed, Veigar becomes insane monster in late game. You will have over 1000 AP together with Phenomenal Evil Power, Rabadon's Deathcap and other AP items which is crazy as hell. You will be able to kill squishy even if they are full HP with Baleful Strike and Primordial Burst or even with Baleful Strike and Dark Matter without using your ultimate. But the biggest weakness for Veigar is that he is very vulnerable once his abilities are on cooldown and like other mages, he is squishy. You need to always stay in the backline when in teamfights so the enemy team won't engage you that easy.

Use your Event Horizon to stun the enemy frontline so you can burst them enough if they get caught by the edge. Save your Primordial Burst on who has the lowest HP. The lower health they have, the more damage you will deal. The goal in teamfights is to quickly burst down squishies first then bruisers or tanks. When playing objectives like baron, you should put Event Horizon off an entrance so they cannot pass through. If you first die in teamfights, then it's pretty much over since Veigar is the burst champion, not a tank but if you manage to win teamfights, then you will win this game for sure.
Combos/Tricks

You can do many combo tricks with Veigar that many players do not know about that. Here are some example:

Basic combos:

1st: Baleful Strike +

2nd: basic attack + Baleful Strike + basic attack (for proc Electrocute)

3rd: Dark Matter + Baleful Strike (commonly used on minions)

4th: Event Horizon + Dark Matter + Baleful Strike + basic attack (for trading)

Combos with ultimate:

1st: Baleful Strike + + Primordial Burst

2nd: Event Horizon + Dark Matter + Baleful Strike + basic attack + Primordial Burst

3rd: Everfrost + Event Horizon + Dark Matter + Baleful Strike + Primordial Burst

I found a video that will probably help you with combo guide. It's not mine and it's an old video but I'm sure it will help you:

How to farm and freeze

Farming

Farming is the most important thing in the game. You have to make sure to always last hit minions when they are close to death. Simply use your basic attack to last hit minions. When under your turret, make sure to wait for your turret to hit them before last hitting them. Use your Baleful Strike when 1 or 2 minions are low so you can get stacks from them. Do not always use Dark Matter for farming or pushing, you will run out of mana quickly early. Always last hit Large Cannon minion with Baleful Strike as they give much gold and you gain triple stack from your Phenomenal Evil Power.

What does freezing mean?

Freezing is a technique that lets you deny your opponent exp and cs. Freezing a lane means that you kite/tank the minions without letting your tower hit the creeps. Always make sure that enemy minions beats yours. If you are keep doing this, you are completely safe from ganks while your opponent will be afraid of ganks and will eventually lost a lot of exp and cs.

Do not freeze against harder matchups unless if you are very far ahead. If you want to freeze, make sure the enemy pushed you under the tower. In this way, enemy will be vulnerable to ganks. Freezing will force the enemy laner to overextend for farm and will keep you safe since you will be close to the turret. The downside is that you won't be applying any pressure, leaving your opponent free to roam. If you are very far ahead and you are freezing by not pushing, enemy will be in your kill range and he will loss a lot of exp and cs leaving him behind. This is a great way to snowball to lead unless if you have other objectives such as dragons, towers etc.
Warding

Warding in League of Legends is incredibly important for every role and every game you play. It is a necessity for everyone to know when to ward, where to ward and how to become better at warding.

Without any vision control, you will find it difficult to survive the early game, win the mid game and close out the late game. When you understand the fundamentals of warding and how you can use it to your advantage, it can really help you win more.

Every player has to start (unless if they play as a jungler) with Stealth Ward. This ward is very important to reveal small area around. You can either place it if you think the enemy team is going to invade or you can place it later once around 3 minutes. Once you have first recall, you should buy at least 1 or 2 Control Wards. This ward will always stay until it's destroyed and it will reveal any invicible units and Stealth Wards as well. I have added wards in this new Mobafire map and you can see notes by using your mouse on Ward Icons:

This is probably the best places you can put your wards. The more you will put the wards, the more vision score you will gain. After you have finished your lane, you can keep your Stealth Ward if you need more wards or you can replace it with Farsight Alteration to reveal a small area from huge distance or with Oracle Lens if you wanna clear enemy wards or the enemy team has like Teemo to reveal his mushrooms. It's up to you.
Roaming

Roaming is very impactful for a mid laner because it is the center lane on the map. You are always a threat to help out top or bot lane. Mid laners are also usually the closest to their jungler, and as such can make plays on the map together.

It is important to first tend to your minion wave before you roam. Ideally, you will get the minion wave pushed into the enemy turret and then look to roam. You can still roam if you clear the minion wave after the enemy mid clears theirs, but you will have lost tempo on your map movement.

You also need to be aware of the situation on the map you are moving toward. Your allies should have enough health and mana to support you in your gank. It is also helpful if your allies can communicate to you what summoner spells the enemies still have available.

You must be sure that you have a safe path to the lane you want to roam on. The enemy jungler can block your path if you do not have sufficient wards or information on the junglers whereabouts.

Every champion in Mid lane can roam even those who is immobile. As a Veigar player, if you wanna roma, then make sure to take Rune Predator and have early Boots. Make sure that you are healthy enough and you have a lot of mana to use your abilities. If the enemy Bot lane is retreating and you are going to roam, that means they know you are going to help your Bot because the enemy player must have placed their wards somewhere. In other words, let me show you which way is the best to roam (I drawed this myself. The white is simple way to roam, the blue when you are on the blue side and the red when you are on the red side)

White Lines: This is the simple way to roam. Going on the river and roaming either on Bot or Top way is the fastest way to roam.

Blue Lines: If you are on the blue side, there are some ways to roam. If you are planning to roam on Bot lane, you can do it by going on river, then heading near Blue buff on the red side and then going into bushes. Once you reach there and if the enemy Bot lane is near their tower, you can come to help your Bot lane to get the kills. If you are going on Top lane, first go to riven then go between the baron and Red buff on the red side and then go in the bushes. Be prepared if the enemy doesn't know you are there so you can help your Top laner to get the kill.

Red Lines: If you are on the red side, if you are going to roam on Bot lane, you can go between Red buff on the blue side and dragon and once you reach in the bushes, be quick to get there or else the enemy will retreat near the tower. Or if they are near their tower and they are low, you can try to get the kills. If going on Top lane, first go to the river and then go left where is there near blue buff on the blue side and then head to the bushes. Once you have reached there, if the enemy is completely low, help your Top laner to kill the enemy.
Playing from behind

So everybody is asking what to do when your enemy is ahead and you are behind. Well, if you are behind, don't worry about it, the game isn't just over yet and it isn't so early to surrender. Keep your mental up. Playing from behind is something you got to learn. This extends to both in lane and out of lane gameplay. If your team is ahead and you're behind, then there is a high chance to win the game. For example, if Bot lane is very ahead and they have destroyed their enemy tower, they will likely to be fed and the enemy team will try hard to destroy them so just pray if they are good players. If you and all your team is behind, then there is a very little chance to comeback as it will be very hard to stop them unless if the enemy is completely throwing the game.

Your general focus should be on farming and avoiding fights. Also avoid roaming and utilize lane wards so you can warn your team when your opponent goes somewhere. Do not follow their roams. Even if you do get there in time, your impact will be severely limited due to being behind. Also, build defensive items to survive if you are behind. This will help you to prevent them to busrt you down quickly. It will not work every single game but at least it will give you a bit advantage.

A lot of Veigar players struggles in lane and are very behind due to being countered or camped and pretty much loses the game. That is true but this is just a game and there is no need to be angry about that. The angrier you are, the more chance you will likely lose the more games. If the players are flaming you for losing or not doing any things that they have pinged you and couldn't do it, just mute them and continue playing.
Matchups

Unfortunetaly, Veigar struggles against most of the midlaners especially against assassins, long ranged champions and who has a strong early game. But if you play smart and you don't die early too much, then you will have an easier time. So I am going to show you some matchups in midlane. Please keep in mind that some matchups are also quite rare and I will also add matchups that for example: sometimes, ADC from bot is in mid or sometimes, Support as AP is in mid. I will also add difficulties and things in matchups that you will see:

Difficulty: Very Easy, Easy, Normal, Hard or Very Hard

Recommended Runes: This will describe which runes you should use against champions. Some of the champions will have 2 or even more options but it's up to you which you will use

Which Summoner Spell you should use: This will describe what summoner spell you should use before the game starts

Which Item you should start: This will describe what item you should buy first when the game starts (you can even start with Tear of the Goddess if you need more mana but honestly, I rarely start with that)

Which Rune Keystone they use: This will describe which rune keystone are they using

Which Summoner Spell they use: This will describe which summoner spell are they using (I will not put Flash as a main summoner spell on matchups since everyone is using it so I will just add only what secondary summoner spell are they using). However, some players will use both summoner spells like Ignite and Teleport instead of Flash for killing pressure

Which Item do they start: This will describe which item have they started with

Their usual full build: This will describe what players have their full build when they have bought items (This is just in my opinion. Many players have their different full build what do they like or what is strong in the current meta)

I added a quick matchup tier list so you can see every champion what I added in each difficulty that there are in my opinion but every player have their opinions as well (I will soon add more matchups that rarely happens in mid lane):

Now, I will show matchups in alphabetic order from A to Z and explain how to win and survive every lane:

Synergies

There are a lot of champions that works really well with Veigar but I a going to show you some champions in my opinion that are best with.

Amumu
Almost every champion works perfect with Amumu and Veigar is no exception. When Amumu uses his ultimate, you can easily catch the enemy champions with Event Horizon and you can unleash your abilities to delete them. Very good synergy.

Ashe
Her ultimate can stun an enemy champions and you can easily use your Event Horizon for even more stun and finish him off with your abilities.

Blitzcrank
He pulls the enemy champion, you finish him off easily. Nice.

Hecarim
He works really well with Veigar due to his CC ultimate and you can easily catch them with your Event Horizon for more CC.

Jarvan IV
Another great jungler. He can catch enemy champions with his ultimate and Veigar can stun them with Event Horizon which means GG.

Leona
Very tanky support with so much CC. They work together really well.

Malphite
With his ultimate knock up, you can easily stun them with Event Horizon. Very deadly combo.

Nasus
Ultimate stack brothers! :D

Nautilus
Like Leona he is very tanky support and much CC.

Ornn
Very tanky late game champions with a lot of CC. Also his passive can upgrade your mythic item which is splendid.

Sejuani
Very tanky jungler with a lot of CC. Very great in teamfights.

Sion
Tanky in late game and if he manages to his enemies with his Q or ultimate, you can easily destroy them.

Thresh
Probably the best support to have with Veigar. His cage and your cage will be nightmare in teamfights making them almost impossible to escape.

Zac
Tanky jungler with a lot of CC.

Zilean
You died? He will give you a second chance to live and destroy the enemy team.
What to ban?

There are many OP or should I say: Broken champions that many players found them frustrating to beat them or they don't wanna face them in general. I am going to show you what recommended champions you should ban if you are playing going to play Veigar in mid lane:

Fizz
So this fish gives you a lot of trouble as Veigar? He dodged your abilities? You can't put your cage on him. He can burst you down very quickly? Then ban this fish and you won't have any fish nightmares.

Irelia
So broken that any immobile mages can't do almost nothing against her. Players are still waiting for her nerfs but Riot doesn't really care about. She also deserves to be banned just like any other broken champions.

Kassadin
You don't like this anti AP champion that counters a lot of mages, then this guy is also good ban. He scales like a monster in late game and can almost delete squishy champions and can escape easily with his ultimate. This champion is so easy to carry the game. Highly recommended to ban Kassadin if you are going to play Veigar.

Katarina
High mobility. manaless, easiest pentakill champion. Feel free to ban her.

Yasuo
This champion will defenitely get you mad when you will play against him especially if you are playing as Veigar since he can block your Primordial Burst. He has many abilities that can outplay you and can destroy your entire team in late game. A lot players ban him because they hate him so much due to his wind wall, he has no sources (he is manaless) and many other things that I can't explain how I also hate him so much. Fell free to ban him if you don't wanna face him.

Yone
Very unbalanced and very broken champion once he gets few items as he can almost any champions 1 vs 1 or even 1 vs 3. Like Yasuo, he is manaless and his abilities and basic attacks deals physical, magical and true damage which is ridicilous. Another good ban if you do not wanna face this champion.

Zed
One of the most banned champion in the game. He can counter almost any champions in mid lane if he plays correctly and has very good roams. Despite being nerfed in many patches, the players are still banning him. The good things thought he doesn't scale well in late game because players will buy defensive items to counter him and he only builds damage items which makes him squishy champion. This is my recommended ban (just with Kassadin) so ban this shredder if you don't wanna face him.
Conclusion

And that's it. That's the end of the my guide. I hope this guide will help you a lot and make your game much better with Veigar. If you got any questions, feel free to ask me anything. Once again, thank you and hey, check this my other guides if you want to play with them as well! :D
